Fictitious but possible scenario... End of last season, Mooy (with 1 year left on his contract) tells Town he has no intention of playing in the Championship. Town say fine, we have a valuation that needs meeting and once it is met you can go (let’s say £20m). Pre-season ticks by, no sign of any offers anywhere near the valuation. Mooy is pissed off but he’s a pro so he turns out in a daft sash at Rochdale and potters round midfield for the first game of the season. Meanwhile, his agent talks to other clubs. Brighton confirm they would be interested but he’s not a priority signing so they won’t be splashing a big fee or giving him a multi year contract. They’d be happy to pay a loan fee and take over his contract for the last year, paying his PL wages. At the end of the season both parties have the opportunity to negotiate a new contract with Mooy a free agent or to go their separate ways. Mooy and agent put the proposal to Town on the basis that he still has no intention of playing this season in the Championship and the club hasn’t sorted a better alternative. Everyone’s a winner. Except Town of course. Unless the loan fee is massive and we use it wisely. The End. Or town loan him with a loan fee and an agreed price at the end of the season?

Does the fee really matter to us fans if there’s no appetite to buy decent replacements So far we’ve got over £20m in fees; billing, smith, sobhi (£1.6m loan fee) and loewe Zanka soon to go and maybe mooy with mounie also being touted out We’ve shifted delpoitre, Williams, lossl and durn off the wage bill (plus Payne) That’s 8 high earners gone with Zanka to follow - possible mooy and mounie (before the international windows close) The wage bill has been massively trimmed Against that we’ve not spent £1m; koroma £500k, Brown £200k and £250k on Herbert plus elphick and a loan goalie ... and the strongest link today is Fraser Campbell! This is what you get when Del boy is in charge! Dare I say it all worked out well at Norwich!?

How can there be an after amount at end of season when he won’t be contracted to us

There's no agreed price at the end of the season - he won't be our player at the end of the season, he'll be free to do what he wants!

We have the option of an extra year. Even Town wouldn’t be daft enough to loan him out then let him go on a free, no matter what his wages are.

Only at the end of the season he's available on a free. Other than that, seems like a great deal 🙄

Odds of 1-10 on Skybet on AM joining Brighton today, looks like a done deal......only a problem with his medical test would stop it now. As far as I know he has gone. Havent read all the posts but looked at BBC Sport.

Just seems mad that we would loan the guy out when we need seasoned senior players in the team. The deal must be financially beneficial to the club. Will we get a parachute payment from the Championship into the 1st Division!!!!!!!

He was off the pace compared to his normal self against Derby, thought something might be a miss based purely on that performance.
Well done to us on leaving it to the last day. Good excuse not to bring anyone in though. Need to think of a difference excuse with the Billing and Smith money though.
Genuinelly think we will get beat by QPR and Fulham. Fun times ahead.

Will we get a parachute payment from the Championship into the 1st Division!!!!!!! I suppose it is financially beneficial as it gets him of our wage bill. If thats the case our supposed relegation clauses aren't as good as they said. Or now under, the new owner, don't provide the stability they did under DH.

I can only think that the new DoF was in the loop and will work his magic for the January window?
Hodgkinson will need to be transparent about today’s dealings to reassure the fan base.

Oh aye, when we're languishing at the wrong end of the championship in 4 months time, I'm sure quality players will be clamouring to come to us.

LB more pressing for me to free kongolo up to partner Schindler. Campbell won’t be a bad signing as a back up to Grant.

Quality lower league players 😄 the club has said to bring in young hungry players which will be the new blokes remit.

How about looking it from a different perspective. Mooy may have forced the move. And Brighton might be the only club who wanted him. Shock horror. A disinterested Mooy is no use to anyone. But it’s easier to blame the club He doesn’t want to be at town, that’s not hear say. It’s fact. Literally no point in having someone who doesn’t want to be here and isn’t putting a shift in in training. He may well be a fan favourite but he’s acted no different to Hunt behind the scenes. It could be considered he's been worse...utterly half arsed performances since his return from injury throughout pre season and into Monday. Not suggesting a fully enthused Mooy would have made much difference to last season, but in the short term he could definitely have contributed more v Derby and that might have been enough to affect the result.

Oh those reports. Wow. That’s made me look stupid think you managed that all by yourself... Yeah I’m sure they had loads of competition. None of which we’ve heard about in the media and we’re forced to take a loan deal when we said we’d only let go for crazy money Does that strike you as a deal that had REAL competition for signature? If I was a Brighton leak in this I’d want to ensure the fans that they had a real battle to sign him to make them look good. Quite simply I don’t buy it

There's still some things we don't know. The main ones being: how high was Man City's sell-on clause? Did we have a year's option on him after his contract runs out next year? If the answer to both questions is 1. Very high and 2. No, then it's just about understandable (from the Club's point of view, which is most important for me). Even so, why did all parties let it happen only 5 hours or so before the window closes, all concerned could have done us a favour and decided a week or so back, which (maybe) would have given us enough time to find a proper replacement. To answer your later question ... "that's football " .. I have little doubt that we will have been hawking mooy around for months , a guy who we are reliably informed would be happy to run his contract down .. since the panic stricken lee Clark era town have always tried to have had business concluded early doors.. But that's not always possible and is further complicated this year by the fact that WE ARE NOT IN THE BOSS SEAT ( I'm turning into Positive ) It'll be interesting to hear the Club's explanation on this matter (if he does go). Otherwise, there's no point dwelling on it too long. What's done is done. "That's football" as you say (which is great for the player, but what about the fans?). Otherwise, it does raise the question as to why the PL and Championship aren't in line with most of the rest of Europe (and the other 2 profi leagues in England). We've still got a few hours to go, so I hope there's a couple of inspiring signings yet. If not, then I can only hope losing an international midfielder doesn't have an unwanted knock-on affect with other senior pros, who will still be able to leave even after 17:00 today.

Posing in the shirt and the bbc are reporting it. He's gone. I fully expect Schindler to follow him out of the door too.

Our best players going and replaced by a load of non league players. All I can say is congratulations Phil on a truly successful transfer window, looking forward to league one next year!!
