Bloody great news for the lad and for us if the figure is right. I don't think it would be the same as losing a Marcus Stewart or Jon Stead...............................

Yer, we agreed a new contract with his agents last week and now because there is loads of interest his agent has moved the goal posts. He's been at the club since he was 8 years old. Surely loyalty should be in his heart, lets hope he stays.

Agents have moved the goalposts that'll be because they realised the level of interest sadly

We're going to get a pathetic tribunal fee aren't we? if previous examples are anything to go by (eg john bostock) then yes,it will be a pathetic fee we get for him, especially as those on the tribunal likely know absolutely nothing about football and the value of players

Palace got absolutely shafted with the Bostock fee too.
Come on Alex, show a bit of loyalty.

Aren't there rules in place relating to the transfer of players, under 23 of age, who have been at their current club for x amount of years??

Perhaps Deano said too much- - -but on the other hand it looks as if Smithie will be here until the end of the season. That will help Smithie to improve by playing in a first team and increasing his value.

As much as I want him to stay you surely can't blame the lad or his advisor's. Who wouldn't want to go to a Premier league club?
Despite all our current enthusiasm and hope we still are a League 1 club. At the very best we will be a Championship club next season.
Good luck to the lad just hope he gets even better for the rest of the season as it will keep on increasing his price. Regards the tribunals we will get a fair price for Smithies not an outrageous price but a fair price - remember there are not many first team keepers his age in the entire football league and certainly none with England International Caps - I would expect +1 million settlement at least.

He also said that if we receive any offers for him now, he will not even look at them if they are less than 7 figures.

The price is not determind by his footballing value. I read somewhere that the fee is based upon what it has cost town to bring Smithies through the academy system. Why can't players think for themselves!

Didn't Palace reject a substantial bid for Bostock a few months before Spurs signed him and then got peanuts in the settlement. We'll get well and truly shafted here; he's worth more than a million anyway. I don't see why he'd want to go, if he's good enough to make it at the top of the game then he'll make it and he'll stand a better chance playing for an improving side rather than Spurs or Chelsea's third or fourth choice side.

gutted if he goes but if he goes to a prem club you cant blame him he has a big future in the game.
i do hope however our management team and deano can talk him into signing a long contract with town and he can be our NO1 all the way to the top!

Anyone know who his agent is?
I'll feel cheated if he goes for peanuts. More promising in his field that the 3 Peterborough players that they're asking for a combined total of £15M for. Yes, goalies don't generally go for as much, but if we were going to sell him it should've been for £2M minimum IMO.

if these big clubs do want him i don't think he is the sort of player they NEED to sign in january to make a difference to their season so maybe hoyle is seeing that he is going leave maybe in the summer so is just building the buzz now to get hat extra cash. just a thought
