Just watched the development squad against Charlton and I have to say the best team won with us losing 1 nil. We looked weak in attack and Carr was eventually substituted. They scored in the second half when Gerrard lost his man and he scored. Garrard was also taken off and on this display theres little hope of many of these players stepping up to first team football at this moment in time. Gobbern also played and also looked mediocre so all in all not a great day for HTFC.

Sadly most of this group don't look as though they will make it at our level. Maybe I am being too harsh as they need to develop however such as Sinnott have been around for a while and have had a chance. People raved about Billing however he needs to toughen up and at times lacks a sense of urgency.

Decided not to attend this one when I saw the line-up. Sounds like they had a poor game after (was it) 5 consecutive wins.

Do we need to sign some young players to fill the gaps in the 21s due to the recent out going loanees? Or can we promote internally e.g. U18s to 21s, 16s to 18s and so forth?

I would say we need to be scouting around for new players to come in. The likes of Harry Bunn from Man City are an example of what is out there if the scouting is good enough. To be fair it would not be a great loss if all of those out on loan were to stay with those clubs or gain employment elsewhere. On the plus side it would free up money / places for those potentially showing they could make the grade at our level.

Big big flaw in that, all those out on loan have showed, were showing potential to make the grade at this level. Would not have been here otherwise.

Our 21's have a relatively large squad so should cope by promoting a couple under 18s coupled with a few overage players in need of match fitness like pato, gerrard etc

I think there is a degree of over-expectation about how many players need to "make the grade" from each age group. Only 1.5 on average from each age at each club would be enough. That would mean, eventually, you would have produced a group of 24 professional players aged between 20 and 35. Plenty. Obviously not all these players would remain at the same club, but for every one that only ended up at Hartlepool, you may produce one who ends up at Liverpool. If our academy structure can start producing 2 on average from each level, Dean's investment will pay back handsomely. But we are still, to a point, playing catch-up with other clubs who have had consistent academy funding over the years.

Just watched the development squad v Birmingham and it ended nil all. As with the Charlton game we were poor up front even though we had plenty of possession. Jo Lolley played and was subbed at half time and had little impact on the game. Duane Holmes was back but again on a good number of occasi0ons either got pushed off the ball or lost it after trying to take one player too many on. Nil all was a fair result as they also did not look like scoring despite having a goal disallowed for offside.

Tronstad was quite good, we should of won by three or four but poor decision making. Lolley had a few efforts over the bar. Holmes just doesn't look like he is good enough for first team, played a few good balls thru to forwards.
