yes it was a young team and they are in good hands. The result matters but not as important as the learning procces It is also interesting to see how many of the U19 team regulars are now out on loan with competitive men's teams at various levels. I know some remain unhappy with the academy restructuring but you can see clear development pathways, bespoke almost to individual players.

Why don't we ever produce any Footballers that are good enough to break into the first team ? Surely we should have 1 or 2 breaking the mould by now. From the outside looking in,it just looks like a complete waste of time to me. Patience can only go on so long.
So who's going to come through guys, give me a reason to be optimistic ?

Although Billing and Smith weren't at Town since they were children, they are both products of the academy and in the first team. We're at a too high level at the moment to give unproven teenagers a go like we could in the Jackson days for example. Of the best academy players we've had in the last 10 years, none of them would get in the team in my view. Prior to restructuring I think our academy has had a really decent output for its size. Smithies, Hunt, Holmes and Tom Clarke are all Championship players, and there's a decent amount at League 1 and 2 level as well. I'm sure they'd all be starting if we were still at that level. In terms of the restructuring itself, I'm reserving judgement for another 2 years, where the first players from the new academy are at an age where they're playing regular senior football. Would be interesting to bring back up but I reckon by that time we'll have seen Duhaney, Brown, Harratt and Schofield play for the first team in some capacity.

Haven’t we got a few junior internationals on the books currently playing in the academy or out on loan ? Thinking Daly, High and Schofield

Was it Harriet that scored? I think that’s his name, the 17 y/o who’s been banging them in in both age groups. You seem like you watch the games, what type of striker is he(poacher or is he creating his own stuff?)?

You seem like you watch the games, what type of striker is he(poacher or is he creating his own stuff?)? He's got 24 goals this season. Will he get a chance with us or is a loan to Liversedge in the offing? He might be a long way off our first team but I hope Siewert looks more favourably on some of our younger talent rather than paying millions out for some of the dross with potential we've be signing of late.

I don't watch any of the games, however I've a keen interest in youth football as I am a grassroots football coach who's just done his level 1 coaching badge. Plus we're looking at being a Host Family for a couple of next years Academy intake.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you what kind of striker he is, however, if he's already playing in the Under 19's at the age of just 16, the club must think highly of him

Rochdale mate just informed me that they've signed Rekeil Pyke on loan. Think I've only seen him once (Southampton youth cup game(?) a couple of years ago when we won). Potentially good signing for Rochdale, anyone - does he have a point to prove?

Good move for him considering we've just signed a striker from League 1.
If he can score some goals I am sure he'll come into Siewert's thoughts for next season.
Opportunity really does knock for him now

Opportunity really does knock for him now Cheers for that. Seem to remember him showing great promise. But reading between the lines, you mean hopefully he can fulfill his potential, score some goals and he might be taken into consideration to shoot us back into the PL next season I'd settle for that now, for sure

Yep I realise that a team that was formed just 6 months ago and included a number of trialists was beaten by a team that have been playing together for the past 9 seasons.

If chesterfield had any decent u18s they would be in their first team squad considering they r fighting relegation from the conference!! Lost to Burton 6-1 the week before but that was never announced. The whole club is used to losing at every level.

Can't help thinking that if at the age of 20 he's joining Brighouse then he's unlikely to make with us.
