But then on the flip side, i could give you hundreds of examples of players who are no bigger, quicker or stronger than Holmes but played at the highest level for many years I can't. From what I've seen of Holmes at Championship level (I guess about the same as most Town fans) he's got a decent pass and can shimmy past a couple. I've seen him lose the ball with a poor pass or cough up possession probably on a similar ratio to Hogg. I truly hope he turns out to be the next David Silva and I think he is being handled well by Robins/Town and talk of building a team around him are premature - if not plain wrong. There's a difference between coughing up possession trying to thread a difficult pass to create a chance on goal and giving it away when trying to pass to a team mate stood ten yards away in the middle of the pitch

It's also a crap comment, because as much as Hogg's poor on the ball in tight situations, his success ratio will be very high, because of the vast amount of simple passes he plays.

As I said I hope he goes on and does brilliantly for us. Town fans have been deprived of any sort of midfield quality on the ball of the type provided by Holmes for quite a while and I think too much expectation is being heaped on him. I think Gary Roberts was a good comparison in terms of skill and vision. A bit more physicality and a yard extra of pace and he would surely have plied most of his trade above the levels he achieved in Div 1 and 2. That's what Holmes has to measure up to as Roberts was/is a very decent player.

That's a crapper comment. Do you actually watch when you go to a game. Midfield players make a lot of simple passes - all of them - Iniesta and Javi made careers out it.

with the signing of Majewski I think Holmes needs to be loaned out, I'm sure he wont want to be on the bench either so the experience will be good for him

I was making the point Hogg would have a high success ratio, unlike you were suggesting; I wasn't criticising him for making simple passes.

Fair enough - I think Madwhatshisname might have killed the Holmes argument.

Possibly.
He could be an excellent player for Holmes to learn from.

Holmes a great option to bring on no need to loan him out we need him to keep Majestic and the rest of the midfield and attack on their toes....
