Could be a disaster....could be a magical whirlwind that sees PATRICK KLUIVERT become a huddersfield town legend Not saying he would be my first choice, but he'd come a lot higher than most names linked. Worst that could happen? We get relegated and we're back competing at the top of L1 with talented youngsters coming through the academy under the tutelage of someone who, experienced manager or not, probably has more football knowledge in his left nut than most managers in the football league. best that could happen? We play great attacking football, improve the academy setup and have a direct link to talented dutch kids, good loans, bigger crowds, more revenue, more chance of investment Coached at AZ, managed FC twente's youth team, worked under van gaal (one of the most universally rated coaches in the business, renowned for his forward thinking approach, great football and youth development) for the dutch national team. Dont get me wrong, a safe choice would be the sensible option, but in a years time when we're being served up boring football under a boring manager and the john smith's is like a morgue...but it will be alright because we're still in the championship? Football is all about excitement.. and it would certainly be exciting. Not saying i'd want us to go down, but i've found the chmpionship quite boring so far to be honest. Wouldnt mind a bit of risk if it sparked a bit of life into the club!! Think it would be very important to keep the backroom staff who know the championship though for the balance. edit: i should add, im very skeptical as to whether it will happen, mind. You've definitely convinced me Ritchie Should put an extra 2k on the gate for Charlton this weekend if he gets announced. Would be a mad, crazy signing and generate a real buzz around the place. Patrick Kluivert's Barmy Army has a nice flow to it Sounds just like Lee Clark but with a FAR better playing career, FAR more experience, FAR better contacts and easily more mentally stable. How good was his brand of football before he changed his philosophy from playing exciting football to must achieve success which he obviously failed at. I personally don't want Mowbray and Ince but anyone else is fine and if it was my decision and Kluivert was serious he'd get the job.

CHRIS POWELL to be named tomorrow................... from a mate who has inside info apparently........ I think you might be onto something because my mate who supports Spurs (admittedly he has absolutely no inside info) sent me a text saying Chris Powell to be made manager too.

He did a great job at Charlton . If true we'll all be happy with that choice . But it's going to be Tony Mowbray.

You're right of course, but he's definitely a better option than Michael Owen. He's been an assistant to a very well respected manager. A bit like Brendan Rogers or Steve Clarke were with Mourinho. Would Mike Phelan be a good option? Or Steve Bould? No way of knowing but they might be great. Michael Owen would be shite. That's undeniable. Was Kluivert assistant at a club or just the national side? If its the latter then its barely more than Owen has in his coaching CV. His input might have just been setting up a few sprinting exercises to get the warmed up and being there to talk to players in a 'been there- worn the t-shirt' way that van gall can't, having never been a top player. A guy like Mowbray ( just to use him as an example) can draw on YEARS and YEARS of experience of making decisions. Those that went right and those that went badly. YEARS of dealing with players and agents ,of setting formations, studying opposition, etc etc and will have countless times more contacts at our level of the game than someone like Kluivert. Hes more famous , is the only thing i can think of that puts him ahead of the other realistic names mentioned. Prince William is even more famous, so would he be even better? No. He wouldn't. Clearly. I don't have a clue how involved PK was in the LVG set up, but you don't either. It boils down to this. There are a number of candidates who have both succeeded and failed (as you rightly point out in respect of Mowbray). To me the successes and failures cancel each other out. Is one success and one failure better than 0-0. Or in the case of McLeish 2 successes and 2 failures.? All opinions. In simple terms it's safe to say that if we appoint Mowbray he might succeed or fail. He's proved capable of both. Here we have a guy that has neither succeeded or failed. All I'm saying is that he MIGHT succeed in his first attempt. He certainly might not. Your concerns about his lack of experience are very legitimate. It would be for DH to get to the bottom of whether he was a bona fide contributor with Holland or just a hanger on. It's a gamble either way and I'll understand if DH goes the other way.

And he's a more realistic choice than what most of you totally deluded people are saying .

Someone puts on a ton with Coral and he drops from 33's to 10/1, would almost expect him to go odds on by what most people say about the flimsiness of new manager markets.

FS, I'm trying to avoid this thread., last thing I want is to get excited about the proposition of Kluivert... He brings everything, just no Championship experience, do I think he would be a success? I'm not sure, but his contacts and getting players from Holland, Man Utd, Barca etc might help him massively and exploit loan system so if he did have any faults, surely they could cover the cracks?

Not sure about Mowbray but please please not Powell, probably a one club manager, bit like Jacko was for us?

I thought Jacko managed Lincoln City aswell til he got ill? These managers dont have to be one club or labelled as this or that, they need opportunities and to have some luck when they get those opportunities. Powell could become a town legend, nobody knows.

The excitement concerning Kluivert is surely a damning indictment of the mediocrity of the other candidates.

Does this thing of 'contacts' really mean anything? There was a lot of talk about Robins being connected with Man Utd when he first came to us, but it hardly bought in a wealth of Man U loan players did it? Couldn't even seem to get the Coventry targets we wanted! I think Kluivert would be a comparatively glamorous choice, but think I'd rather go with someone like Powell. Overall though, we're being linked to managers who, as another posted said, a few seasons back we would have been more than happy to be linked to....

If its Mowbray or Powell . We're going to have to get right behind him .no point thinking about the negative impact of it . We just need to be more realistic it's not going to be a big name manager so let's get that out of our minds . Give the new man a chance . We're in a mess and we need to help Powell or whoever it is and support him .

I find it hard to believe there is no truth to the rumor at all, although I think it is more likely a come and get me for other clubs, not us. I think his agent is touting him around and just saw this as an opportunity to suggest he would consider a Championship Team.

Possibly a face saver, he may have been told no thanks. So decided to state there was never any truth in the rumours. More likely it was a load of crap made up by sky sports to maximise bets on a small time market.
