There is a doubt - as detox said we couldn't get enough in for a few trials so what chance have we got for every match in a season? Not sure those who have said housing away fans in the Kilner is a good idea either. It's the most popular stand and would be causing more trouble forcing people to move than it's worth. Disagree, the 800 or so in the fml would go in, then there'd be plenty others from other stands who'd go in, particularly the Kilner. I dare say some who don't go to home games altogether may be tempted as well Really? You think there's around 1,500 people who aren't going in the North Stand, but the improved acoustics in the South Stand would tempt them? If so, why didn't they go in when it was last opened for Town fans. I think the NSL thing is great, but I really struggle to see where the extra fans/demand is to make the South Stand a viable option - even if there was any chance to get it.

Interesting comment about the Germans detox.
Rail seating in the lower tier would certainly attract a lot of interest.

Do you know what would be easier, if each and every individual that wants a decent atmosphere, stood up and made some noise. It really is that simple. The NSL has brought something to the ground that it's never seen, a colourful and vibrant end behind the goals. If individual fans cant be arsed to sing, there's not a lot we can do about it until they change their attitudes, but in the meantime we'll keep doing what we do, and that is to try and provide some stimulation to others. Those in the NSL love it, and those in the upper tier love it too. I went in there yesterday and enjoyed myself.I went but got to say for me that I still like my side view. I also wanted to see what the upper tier were contributing and I saw that a lot especially the youngsters are enjoying it.So keep it up and sometime it will rock from top to bottom.A huge credit to all those working hard to make it so UTT.

On Sky it was deathly quiet..you could just make out a few distant voices but in many respects that was worse as it seemd like we only had 20 fans singing. I';ve never yet heard anything from the FMU fans, ever...and as for the Riverside, well just the odd occasion when some fans gather at the south end lower tier...but that is not encouraged by club or police. The only 'real' source of noise is the Kilner bank stand, and always will be despite the valiant efforts of the NSL.. The south stand will only work for us if we get at least 3,000 fans in there, every game. Even the wendies who brought 2,300 hardly registered on the sky tv noise monitor...although with no 'effects' microphones the whole stadium felt like just 1,000 had turned up for the game. The only way things will change, even with the FML filled to capacity, is for the club to take a gamble on the south stand and offer it up for home fans, with all the disruption and unsettling of some fans that would cause. Even priced at mega discounted prices the overall cost is way to much and if you read the link to the clubs response to the ATT group posted above, you can see it is riddled with negativity. The lack of atmosphere is not solely down to where fans sit, it's down to too many fans who can not be arsed ...and that I'm afraid is the fact at HTAFC...we get what we deserve...Highly critical and quick to moan, yet not prepared to do anything about it (apart from the NSL)..and a club which shows no real initiative or fresh ideas unless really pushed into it. meanwhile gates are dropping season by season, the atmosphere gets worse and so it goes on , and on.. and not just at our ground either, but across football in all leagues. At some point in time things might change and we might actually look at how the germans do it, for example, but I think i'll be long gone by the time that happens.. The 2300 Wednesday fans weren't exactly loud, but still out sung us all game. 1000 in the south stand would be an improvement on our current atmosphere, but like I say I reckon we would get far in excess of that if done on a permanent basis

Give the away fans the North Stand upper level and lower ( if they bring enough supporters) and move the Town fans to the current away end and stop all this silly messing about,it's the only way we can ever recreate the same noise and atmospheres as that at away games. Why? There's not a massive difference capacity wise between the whole of the FM (upper and lower) and the South Stand. What would be the advantage of 'us' having the South stand over filling the FM upper and lower with those of a similar mindset re showing support? Thing is, it's gonna be a million time easier to achieve the latter than the former.

Can't agree that the only source of noise is the Kilner. The FML seemed like only 20 people singing yesterday because there only were about 20 people singing. If you had 1800 in that stand singing then there is absolutely no way that it'd still sound quiet. The most we've had is just shy of 900 and that was against Bournemouth, so the singing was obviously minimal due to the shock factor. It'll take time to build up and until we hit high numbers the sound will always be relatively low, but sound WILL come out of that stand if we have enough in there. The Kilner has been quiet all season, yesterday being a slight exception as there were a few chants coming from it. On TV the Kilner always sounds loud due to the positioning of cameras and mic's.

The powers that be dont want it changing detox......they are only interested in the premier league, what happens below they couldnt care less about. Its funny how hull can have away fans in a corner of two adjoining stands whilst in the prem, whilst there were near riots when several clubs went in the past occupying just the area behind the goal. Might have something to do with the money the prem is bringing to the city maybe?!

If away fans were put in the south part of the Britannia and we got the south stand, you don't believe there's an extra 800-1000 who'd make make the move to the south stand on top of the original 1500 who went in on a temporary thing?

There is alot of nonsense spoken about re atmosphere - how many clubs are equally as quiet as ours? Answer - bloody loads of em. There is a myth that every club has a better atmosphere than us...... I have been to watford and derby this season - both top 6 and with lots to sing about, and you could have heard a pin drop for most of the games. Regrettably, the onset of all seater stadia has ruined the old atmospheres crackling with tension, noise and mixed with a bit of fear.....that was theprice to pay for the 80s violence im afraid. The north stand is not for me personally, but shame on those taking a pop at the guys involved who are spending significant time and money trying to improve the matchday experience. Its definitely improved the atmosphere away from home with much more pro town chanting rather than the we all hate leeds guff we get at home.....will take longer to change the home one i think but you only had to listen to the fulham support to understand that their enthusiasm is having a positive benefit.

I'd actually expect more to go in on a trial basis - it's a one off, nothing to lose, however if you were asking people to commit for a whole season I reckon people would be less keen to move. Also the numbers went down every time it was used, if there was the interest you'd expect to see more people going in not less. It just seems wishful thinking not backed up by evidence to suggests that 2,500ish would suddenly start going in the SS, when all similar trials have shown that somewhere between 700-1,000 are actually interested in it.

I haven't got any evidence for you because we've never had the ss on a permanent basis, so can't prove my point on that part. What I can say with true confidence though is that there'd be more in the south stand than the fml and the atmosphere would be an improvement

I just don't see how people can confidently state we'd be getting 2,500+ in there, when all the evidence shows the opposite. As you say, anyone who moans about the NSL, in my opinion, is crazy. I don't go in there myself, but I can't see why anyone can take offence by people trying (and, I think, succeeding) in improving the look and atmosphere on match days.

The north stand will always suffer from not having a low roof however that should be an excuse. Numbers will increase the atmosphere in there. The south stand is a long way off. The people who keep saying 'I can't hear the NSL'.... And? Was in the NSL yesterday and I heard the Sheffield Wednesday fans once and I heard the Kilner bank singing section once. Good games bring good atmosphere. Games like Saturdays when most people are sober won't.

I presume since the FML is a temporary structure it'd potentially be easier/cheaper to introduce safe standing rail seats, which I'd prefer to being in an all-seated South Stand.

I am not trying to blow out anyone's candle here, but it just does not work, the North Stand can never create the atmosphere to match any large following from the away team. The atmosphere and noise at Fulham and even Derby was 10 times better than any noise the North stand can create. Give the away fans the North Stand upper level and lower ( if they bring enough supporters) and move the Town fans to the current away end and stop all this silly messing about,it's the only way we can ever recreate the same noise and atmospheres as that at away games. To be honest mate, i agree with you.

All efforts that succeed in improving match day experience should be appreciated.

to be honest those saying the north stand won't work need to have a look at some of RBB's videos. They're in an open stand with a similar capacity to ours. If people change their attitudes, sing their hearts out and get a bit more organised this is what we can achieve.

I have to say I don't quite understand this attitude that nobody can be bothered to sing or join in I sit in the upper tier of the DG and have sat there for many years as a regular traveler to away games I as at Fulham and Blackburn happily join in with the singing support I completely disagree that a Town fans are unable to generate an atmosphere in all sections of the ground, remember Bournemouth in the playoffs with all the clapper boards.
What most of the normal posters who are just negative by nature never answer is a straight forward question at Leeds Town fans and Leeds fans mingle together this game is Policed by the same police force who look after the Town home games so the question is if the police let it happen at Leeds ( and Bradford ) why not at Huddersfield.
Sherbet can you give us an answer to that ?

Most home fans, at most clubs don't generate much noise. It's nowt new. Away it's different as most are going for the day out, few drinks, and singing becomes more enjoyable. At home, most folk are waiting to be entertained and enthused.

I'll offer my own honest view. Just for context, i am what you might consider an originating member of the NSL. There from the start and an active volunteer on match days etc. NSL & HTAFC through and through... In order to answer the OP firstly - No, plainly, we shouldn't give up. It's somewhat immaterial if we can't be heard elsewhere - that really isn't what we hope to achieve, at least in the short term. This appears to be a popular untruth around the internet. Our first aim, and i'm speaking for myself here, not collectively, is to create a stand where singing and atmosphere meets family-friendly, a place to enjoy yourself in your own way - we didn't have that stand previously, we do now. Plenty of older fans, and i use that term loosely (i'm 36 and consider myself young'ish), used to frequent the Cowshed at Leeds Road, and they watched football behind the goal, always, we have provided a stand for them, and why shouldn't we? That's what WE want and WE have gone out and achieved it. Bad thing? Nope. Plenty of other ex- Cowshedder's now have families that they bring to the football (and props to you all for keeping our club alive) and they sit in the Upper Tier, the family stand, and better value. We connect those people back to the Cowshed days, without breaking them from their family, bad thing? Nope. If we don't do something to get the younger fans supporting their hometown club, then our fan base will vanish over the years. The North Stand does LOADS to get kids supporting Huddersfield Town. The ones i know of, are loving it there, actually excited to go back, i remember that same feeling in the Cowshed. Bad thing? Nope. Some of the people in the North Stand used to sit in the Kilner Singing Section, but wanted to move with a vision to the long term future of the club. A second singing section that, IN TIME, will hopefully join up the gaps and give us a stadium that has three ends singing. This clearly hasn't happened yet, but we are making large strides towards it. Bad thing? Nope. Some fans wanted to try and inject some colour into the stands, so they clubbed together to make flags and banners that anyone can pick up and in the North Stand, kids included. Bad thing? Nope. We seem to averaging around 800 fans in the North Stand Lower a game, and in my mind, that seems to be where we are at this season. However, the Upper Tier is beginning to get way more involved (result!) and they have a roof No doubt, the stand is acoustically challenged but priority 1 is for the fans in there to enjoy themselves, it's not even remotely important if another stand can hear us, yet. I can honestly say that the atmosphere within the stand itself is awesome, truthfully. Onto the Kilner Bank. I don't subscribe to this tit-for-tat shite. The Kilner back up until this season, were the ONLY stand making any noise at Town Matches, and they should be acknowledged for that, it would be a morgue without them. I also don't care if we can't hear the Kilner from the NSL, and vice versa - it's totally unimportant, the KIlner singing section remains, and their job is to hackle and chant against the away fans, they enjoy it, and for me it's an integral part of the HTAFC experience. What i struggle to understand, is why there seems to be animosity from the Kilner towards the North Stand. Totally bizarre. Would you guys honestly prefer a small pocket of fans - lets say 500-1000 tucked away in one corner of the ground? - or would you back a bunch of people trying to get a second stand going, that may take 2 years+ to really achieve, in order to get a whole stadium joined up. Some will steadfastly say 'no' - and for me, those are the real short sighted fools, maybe they are young lads with tunnel vision, maybe they are following others like sheep. whatever. We can exist together, we will exist together. There's no choice. You antagonise the enemy (that's not the NSL by the way), we flags and sing old time town songs, different strokes for different folks, whatever makes you happy, right? Maybe other people who sit in the NSL will disagree with me, but those are my views. I'm bored rigid of 'we can't hear you' comments. It's for fuckwits, wherever you sit.

Some people on here make me laugh, they don't go in the fm lower then moan they cant hear them. Seriously ? If u wanna hear get your arse in there. They aren't a performing dog for the rest of the ground. They go in there for a good time and obviously enjoy it. Put up or fcking shut up.

give up after not even half a season? that will give the club more of a reason to not give us the south stand.
If the club really wanted to, they could move the away fans. That won't be any time soon though, until the NSL starts being full consistently they won't even consider it.

Been in once or twice this season and it's alright when you're in there but the noise just doesn't carry. Desperately need the south stand and put away fans in Kilner. When I said this last time people said there wasn't enough demand but I genuinely believe we could sell at least 2k season tickets in the south stand and the atmosphere would be considerably better than it is now that's for sure No chance in hell we'd sell 2000 season tickets in the South Stand. It would be similar numbers to North Stand Lower now (possibly less assuming the price wouldn't miraculously drop)...and 700....or 1500...rattling around in the South Stand would be embarrassingly rubbish. Plus the view is WORSE.

You antagonise the enemy (that's not the NSL by the way), we wave flags and sing old time town songs, different strokes for different folks, whatever makes you happy, right? Maybe other people who sit in the NSL will disagree with me, but those are my views. I'm bored rigid of 'we can't hear you' comments. It's for fuckwits, wherever you sit. Excellent post mate, you see how much it means to my lad to be in there, last season when I took him to games in the Kilner or DG lower, he was laid on my lap asleep in the 2nd half, as you know, he'll sing all match long with the big lads now. There's many more like him, these kids will be a new era of town fans that have a revitalised perception of what going to the football match should be about, we've lost a generation almost since we moved to the new ground, and the restrictions brought about from the Taylor report. As these kids grow up, they'll do so with a passion for singing and generating noise that the stadium had lost and that cannot be a bad thing, from little acorns..... Long live the NSL and all who sail in her.

Great post, I admire those of you trying your hardest with it. It looks good in such a boring stadium.

What I don't understand is the people that moan about and say it isn't working are always the people that arent in there. Instead of them moaning about it why don't they actually contribute to making it work?
It's cheaper, a better day out and you're helping the atmosphere so god knows why people aren't giving it a try.

I sit in the riverside lower. I think you have added to the match day experience enormously with both noise and colour. It is especially noticeable when we attack that end. I would have thought the players notice the difference big time and if they are the only one's who are getting some benefit then it's a job well done. If the guys in the NSL are also enjoying themselves, then what the hell does it matter what ANYONE else thinks?!!!

No way will the NSL give up just because a hand full of people on the internet don't like it.
