Look at it another way. Would we rather keep them just to finish above Rotherham or would we rather get rid and free up big wages to get better players in to improve the first team? Ward and hammill are just squad players under CP, so it makes spence to get shut and get players in who can go straight into the first 11 to improve us. Let's see who comes in before we cast judgement on the club. Spot on the most sensible post so far.

3-2 vs Charlton in the cup would be my guess.. August 2013? He only joined permanently in the summer of 2013 and had a good first half of the season. If you're thinking of the cup match against Charlton where he got injured then that was the fa cup and not the league cup. Jan / Feb of 14. I was trying to think of his last match winning goal, if I recall rightly he was quite a handful in the FA cup game as well though... Probably what lead to that ridiculous tackle from Dale Stephens

I very much doubt they've paid 350k for a player who is out of contract in the summer. Bit thick if they have as im not sure he's worth that even if he was tied down for 3 years

To be fair Holt was a short term deal. Cant see a Holt type player fitting into the clubs ethos of buying young playing and selling for a profit. Not always the case (Ward) but seems to be the clubs philophosy. Afobe would be a good signing Imo. Well, I can't make the Watford game today so I was thinking of going to see Crawley v MK Dons, so I'll report back on how Afobe does! There's a reason he is on their bench quite a bit. He scores goals in a team that creates chances for fun but still think he's massively inconsistent especially in his general play. That would be even more exposed at this level. I doubt we're after him

I wasn't being sarcastic Ben, he looked good in his first few games but as soon as it seemed Wigan wanted him back there was a big dip in performance. Poor goal return as well, I'm really glad he hasn't come back. Sooner see us buy a couple of promising younger players from a lower league side. Getting these expensive 30 something's in the twilight of there careers rarely works out for Town.

I saw him play for Town 9 times, plus 6 subs and no goals! Some posters on here know me and know that I can spot a player, so I can be objective enough.

Fair enough but for me if he hadn't come we wouldn't have gone on that mini unbeaten run and we'd now be routed at the bottom of the league with Blackpool and dead certs for relegation

Yeah that makes more sense Decent business. Use those freed up funds to bring in one good player instead of two average ones. Quality over quantity

Makes Powell's starting XI vs Reading look even shitter (somehow). Start a guy you're gonna get rid off and give Lolley 4 mins Maybe that was Hamill's last chance saloon?

Both start for Rotherham today. Anyone thinking this was a good piece of business needs to look at our subs bench.

Rovrum will stay up now, we've saved their bacon. You must think we're good if you believe two players that can't get in our side are going to keep them up.

As promised, this is my report on how Afobe did today. There, that's it! Well done Town, great win. Did Ali look good? To be honest, no, Alli didn't look good, even though he scored MKD's equaliser with almost the last kick of the match. I was aware that Alli had been getting rave reviews, so I took note of him, but he didn't look sharp at all. It was actually a very odd game. Crawley led with an early penalty, but on about 30 minutes their goalie (Brian Jensen, ex Burnley, grey, fat and 40) got injured after an innocuous-looking collision. Unfortunately, Crawley had no reserve goalie on the bench, so they brought on their striker Matt Harrold to play in goal. You could just tell from the way he acted and his positioning that he clearly was no keeper! MKD didn't really test him till the second half and, to be fair, he started to gain confidence, and somehow made a few scrambled saves. He was actually named MOM, which drew a big cheer, but let in two soft late goals that a regular goalie would probably have stopped. There were three or four occasions when MKD players got into arguments with spectators as well. Anthony Kay played decent, till subbed when MKD were going for it. No idea about Afobe, but he never even made the bench.
