Makes Powell's starting XI vs Reading look even shitter (somehow). Start a guy you're gonna get rid off and give Lolley 4 mins Can an "Absolutely f*****g spot on" button be introduced? Like doesn't seem sufficient. I'm obviously the only person on here who understood Powells selection on Saturday. I thought it was a clear "you asked for it you've got it" response to the clamour for both 442 and the players who hadn't been featuring? He tried to do it differently in a cup game when there were no points at stake as an answer to his tactical criticisms. That's how I saw it anyway. You could argue he was vindicated with the quality of the game and result. The response to last week and now todays transfer news is typical Town fans these days. There's no benefit of the doubt, no understanding, no trust that the management have the best interests of the club at heart and are putting their reputations/careers on the line. Instead there is constant criticism including many people criticising what they were asking for in the first place. So much for being a 'supporter'.

How can anybody criticise Ward & Hammill for their contributions this season when they've hardly played? The same could be said of Gerrard. All of these players contributed a damn sight more than most last season but for whatever reason Powell doesn't seem to rate them. If we were riding high in the league then his opinion would be justified, but we're not so it isn't in my opinion. If they don't get picked then can't contribute!

Will we not have a recall clause? So if we need em back to cover injury or to stop them from scoring for Rotherham then we can do so?

Not surprised, but sad to see Hammill go. He can be a match winner. I would be surprised though if they bring anyone in who is at least of equal ability as Ward and Hammill. Unless they have a 'surprise' in store.

Ward and Hammill will be missed and I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us back on the arse with us vastly improving one of our Championship rivals. Powell will certainly be earning his money this transfer window as he has to get it spot on with who he brings in and if he lets anyone else go he deems surplus to requirements.
We've let two high earners depart and hopefully will bring in at least two players who will enhance our squad and buy into the type of style and character Powell wants with the town team. This could potentially be make or break for him depending on how the new signing settle in and gel and how quickly he can get the players into the club. Good luck to the departing players as they've done quite well for town and contributed a fair deal in their time at town.

A fee of £350,000 quoted for Ward on the Rotherham forum. Not bad business by Town, if true.

Got to be honest… I have really mixed feelings about both of these deals. I guess time will tell…

Still think hammill is quality and a decent manager should want to try get the best out of him..(was one of the best players in this division at barnsley) given all thats gone before i'd have thought we'd have persevered. ward, you cant really complain as he's been mediocre for us....but at the right club with the right manager i would not be at all surprised if it came back to bite us

Forget the capitulation at Rotherham away on Boxing Day, if we get relegated people will pinpoint this as the reason for our demise.
Brave or stupid move by Dean? Can't quite decide.

Of course it's brave, what's the alternative , hang on to every player whose ever put a good performance in and keep adding to it regardless of the finances? Our squad is already far too big and we need to bring more players in, how would you suggest we do that?

And we have gone and done it TWICE.

Both decent players on their day but both inconsistent. As traditional wingers neither really terrorises opposition full backs and neither are strikers. Hammill I would say is the better of the two but we have seen him good and poor and it would be great to have players who do it week in week out. Ward out of contract in the summer so just an early exit. We are obviously making space, lets hope it is filled by some decent players. Powell's first chance to start building his own squad, lets see how we look come February.

Hi
Miller in peace. Interesting comments on your board regarding your two coming to us, and the prospect of Pringle heading in your direction.
If you look on MMad you'll find similar sentiments about Ben. This year he has been quite disappointing, prompting many to question his ability
to cope with Champship footy. Fair to say that Evans has played him out of position on many occasions, but he doesn't have much pace and he
couldn't tackle a Pukka pie. He does give 100% and that endears him to many - plus he can whip in a mean ball given the chance.
See you next year in div 1?
