The only embarrassing part of the thread was certain people on this forum thought they knew better. I had to edit my thread at a later stage simply because the information i had writted was being misquoted , otherwise it might have ended up a twenty page thread. Hudson is the weakest link in the defence ,and you need to take into consideration what the other fans are saying about the player . Don't even bother trying to claim that you knew this was coming because that's just pathetic. It was clear then and it's still clear now that you haven't got the slightest clue what you're talking about, you haven't 'called' anything. For a good chunk of the first part of the season Hudson was being hailed by many as just what we needed, then his form dipped for a good while. Over the course of this run he's had some good games and some bad games, and there's no doubt we need to sign better quality at CB, but don't even begin to kid yourself that you know better than the vast majority of posters on here, He never was and still isn't anywhere near as bad as you like to make out. As I remember it, Sugy got dog's abuse on here for simply telling us his Cardiff mates thought Hudson wasn't all that. They were right.

Where you watching the same game as me? Smith was marking Rhodes & made a very attempt to head the ball. Hudson was poor, but smith was also very poor. Hudson is clearly past his best, but what's Smith's excuse! - UTT. Quite right - Smith was at fault for both goals. With regard to Hudson - he is obviously past his peak. I thought outside the box he won a lot of headers against Gestede who then moved over to play more on Lynch's side. A shame Wilkinson headed the ball for a corner for the second - Smithies was livid with him but I guess he was just playing safe if he didn't get a call.

Gobern was at fault, twice, for the first goal. He consistently loses the ball in dangerous places. As does Smith, who is poor at right back and awful at left back

I remember Clayton gave one to Rhodes on the edge of the box (in a non homophobic way) in the corresponding game last year, and also did a similar one yesterday for Boro v Fulham. Oscar had a good game yesterday - equally he had one challenge which led to our equaliser. You have to be even handed about these things. I don't think Smith is poor or awful but I'd like to see us get better full backs. Don't get me started on the number of mistakes Nahki made yesterday - but to be even handed his general play has improved in the last few games.

LOL I don't know what game you were watching but it certainly wasn't the one i was !! I seriously don't think he beat Gestede once! I was moaning about it to my mate all the way through the game. He beat him at least 4 times in the first 10 minutes. Maybe you were LOLing too much. I'm not an apologist for Hudson be we didn't drop a point here through Hudson's poor defending. I think if you look closely it was really two errors from Smith. However, we were well in control of most of the game and should have won it despite the poor defending. Obviously an area we need to improve on massively next season or we will be in the same boat again. Im only LOLing because its funny how 2 people can watch the same thing but see totally different things. I think hes the weakest centre back weve had for a long time. To me hes poor at everything with the exception of making interceptions as he does read the game well. But in the air hes very weak. My mates convinced he brings the best out of Lynch, and although I agree Lynch has had a fine season and easily his best at HTFC, I think its a case of him having to step up his game considerably to make up for Hudsons various weaknesses. Think cardiff knew they were ditching a player who'd gone physically and we were the suckers who bit.

You can only take at face value what Powell, Lynch, Wallace say about his captaincy qualities and how he has improved and helped Lynch and Wallace. Hope we are scouting hard in the lower divisions/conference for a young, aggressive centre half. I might have heard wrong but I think on the radio on the way home on Saturday that Powell had been looking to give Hudson a rest for some time so maybe Blackpool will see Wilkinson or Smith step in to the middle.

As ever on here, people go to both ends of the spectrum, with someone either being brilliant or rubbish on here. I don't feel Hudson has been anywhere near as bad as some would make out, and if he was brought as an older head to improve the younger players, I feel he's achieved that, going from the comments various players have said about him and you could see how delighted the whole team was for him following his Derby goal.
However, to kick on next season, we have to improve the goals against column, which has been awful for 3 or 4 seasons now. Despite being the only constant in our defence over that time, Smithies, in my opinion, has improved a little this year, though the same question marks about him are still there for me - to say he is one of the better keepers in the league is bizarre, IMO, but when money is tight, he is more than adequate for what we need.
Smith worries me in the same extent Nathan Clarke did, exceedingly promising start to his career, but he's not kicking on as you would have hoped. We may need to try him as CB, as his attacking play is not up to the standard required for a RB.
Hudson, some good some bad, we really need better. Lynch, when he wants to be, is a terrific CB at our level and we don't have a LB.
Therefore, for me, we need a RB, LB and 2 CBs, as I would be tempted to loan Wallace out to get a full half season's play in him - I feel there is a player in there, but we can't afford to play him the odd couple of games here & there, he needs some regular games.
I actually think, if money is a big problem, that Coady would make a very good CB - he is good in the air, reads a game well and can pass a ball without panicking. Now if Oscar continues his recent form we already have Butterfield, Hogg & Oscar for a 3 man midfield, with, hopefully, Billing pushing them all the way.
For all the debate we have on here, one thing that needs to change for us to progress that we can all agree on, is we have to stop conceding the amount of goals we have done over the last few years

Coady would make a good centre back partnered with a aerially dominant one because hes no slouch and is comfortable on the ball. But IMO no way would he cut it next to someone like Lynch, who isn;'t that strong in the air himself.
As for you thinking its bizarre people think smithies is one of the best in this division- I think its bizarre that people don't. We could spend a fortune trying to replace him with better and fail miserably.

We have conceded 6 goals at home in the last 2 games, we desperately need to address the defence this summer. Hudson and Smith aren't good enough to start for me but would be capable squad players

Just to clear up what was said in my previous Hudson thread that i posted last September. My thread said - WHERE IS THE QUALITY DEFENDER. Many on this forum wrongly thought that i had not realised that town had signed Hudson the night before on deadline day. My thread was made up of comments from my Cardiff supporting friends who clearly did not rate Hudson. This lead to five pages of abusive comments from those who thought otherwise , and ended up in a slanging match. I then seemed to fail when trying to explain my thoughts as to the meaning of the word ( QUALITY ) and felt i had to edit the word at a later time in the post by enclosing it in brackets. After reading most of the comments in this latest thread , it seems most are now starting to agree that my Cardiff supporting friends comments have worked out to be spot on.

OK I'm with the Sheriff on this one. Despite his repeated claims to the contrary the (quality) editing nailed it for me. Luckily for Sugy Hudson hasn't been the signing many of us were hoping he would turn out to be but who knows, he may have a better influence next season with with a full Town preseason behind him. He certainly has the experience needed to help a few of our younger ones along. The only 2 games I saw him live alongside Wallace they looked alright in assisting in clean sheets against Cardiff and Reading.

Hate to jump on the band wagon but yeah Hudson's the week link in our defence. Shame as I thought he'd improve us. Does anybody remember when i said exactly the same thing in September last year ,and recieved five pages of abusive comments from people on this forum. My Cardiff friends know the player well , and there description of the player was bang on. Minds begin to boggle when a town fan on radio Leeds described Hudson as the best captain the club has ever had. What worries me most is some idiot decided to give Hudson a two year contract ,and for Powell to keep including him in the starting line up is cause for concern. Powell was a quality defender in his days ,and you would have thought his specialised managerial subject would be defending. I used to assume the same thing about Mark Robins and signing strikers :/

Hes gone physically. Absolutely no spring in his legs at all. He didn't win a single header when he was challenged for it today either by gestede or rhodes. Not one. A centre back who can't jump and win a header isn't good enough, simple as that. Other than that he's painfully slow, looks cumbersome in possession and his distribution is just an aimless punt upfield. I prefer wallace to Hudson. Replacement centre back should be priority number 1 this summer IMO. Don't disagree overall about Hudson - but he won plenty in the air against Gestede outside the box in front of me in the first half. He did win a few in the first half, I'll give you that, although how, I am not sure because he didn't jump. In the second half, I thought it was embarrassing, he was pathetic

He has this amazing reputation as a great captain and I barely ever see him open his mouth. Mark the Mouse.

Agree that Hudson had a shaky game yesterday (against 2 of the best strikers in the division), but he performed well at Wednesday, Forest and Brighton - maybe the more attacking formation and style at home works against him?

I wonder if it's true we were in for Cathcart but lost out to Watford...he's been quality for them.
I don't think we've addressed the CB issue. Hudson doesn't appear to be the answer. However, I feel we may be stuck with him next year. Hopefully, a preseason of defensive drills might help.
For me, we struggle most when Lynch is injured.
