Not last season or even the season before!! We were never in the bottom three even then when "it counts the most".. "It counts the most" at the final whistle of the final league match of the season, and NOT before. Get a grip. 2 years ago we were staring relegation in the face, as were Barnsley. Other results saved us. Pretending we've not been in the bottom 3 because the live table doesn't count, is a bit blinkered when relegation was THAT close. We were in the bottom three and facing relegation for much of the last game. It was more luck than judgement. Wrong again. We needed a point out of the last game, which we got. Other results were then irrelevant. Why do you bother?

The live table was all over the shop, other results were certainly not irrelevant from what I remember. The point for safety came late on in the game. The message seemed to get to both sets of players, who, lets face it, both played the draw out in some kind "lets both stay up" deal.

A point meant we would finish above our opponents Barnsley who needed to beat us to finish above us. Crikey I've never used the 'you've had a shocker here' line on a thread but if it ever applied it would be to someone who has been incorrect in each of their posts on this thread

I think we were safe with the draw. Barnsley were by no means safe though until it was confirmed that the Palace and Posh game had ended with a home win.
It was a dangerous game that Barnsley played and although they could have gone out and found a winner to save themselves, equally a late goal for Town would have relegated them on goal difference.
We were in the bottom three for a long, long time on the final day but that was due to Posh leading at Palace and Town losing to Barnsley.

Marcus, there were times when we would have been down on the live table, but that was when we were losing the game. Wolves and Bristol City were already gone and Barnsley started the day below us, so a point would have kept them there. When the score was 2-2 with about 10 minutes to go and Peterboro were drawing at Palace, Barnsley needed a win to stay up, when Palace scored both teams settled for a point (their keeper was kicking it around his own box for about 5 minutes). Even if Barnsley had got a winner, we would have been safe, as Millwall lost and Peterboro failed to win. Not sure what all this has to do with expectation for next season...

Apparently we've never been near relegation in the last 3 years. There's some selective memories on here!
