The thing about the Championship is that it is the frontier between the super rich, and the rest of the football league..we have the relegated Prem clubs coming in with their 'thankyou and goodbye money', and then the likes of Yeovil, Donny, Rotherham, Scunny, Barnsley ...even Bradford..etc emerging from league 1. The Championship is so diverse and has more extremes than any other league... If it wasn't for the poorer smaller clubs in this league Town would never survive..even clubs like Wolves can and did go down to league 1 (briefly) ..
The competition to get into the Prem is fierce..we simply can not compete with that on a financial basis...we need to do what Burnley did (for example).. In the end though, I'm wondering if it's time for a Premier League 2..because at the moment the Championship is totally unbalanced with the parachute money . In reality though, I think they should scrap the parachute money and simply say to the relegated clubs put in a claim for the additional costs you incurred, we'll audit them...and pay compensation... I think we'll find that this amounts to something nearer £3m-£5m... An example is Hull City, who had a clause in theri players contracts if they got relegated, yet still receive the full whack of parachute money..(which is supposed to cover the costs of players on long terms high cost contracts (among other things.))
On the opposite side of this, and the inflated players trasnfer fees...Town are benefitting by being able to sell the likes of Rhodes and Butterfield at ridiculous prices while still running the club on league 1 levels pretty much...so it's swings and roundabouts I guess.

We have no chance of competing in the transfer market if Gary Hooper costs £32000pw and a loan fee of £0.5mill per season. The games gone mad. Correct, but so many on here think Town should be going for players of that ilk, who will most certainly have similar wage demands. Easy to make suggestions when it's not YOUR POCKET the wages are coming out of.

Transfer fees ain't the problem, wages are the problem. £8 Miilion was ours in return for Jordan Rhodes, over the length of his contract that is also the amount Jordan will get.

A good side that plays good football on the floor and ultimately is a winning side can attract a high attendance link

That's the answer - just have 3 teams in England who play each other 20 times a season Maybe you have a point - it's time for the top 4 in England to go off and form a European Super League with France, Germany, Spain etc, take all the money with them and leave the rest of us to have a competitive league in this country. Davva failed to note that Florida has about a third of the population of England and half of it is covered in a swamp. You are correct. However if you expand that there are 32 professional Football teams in the US, population approx 5 or 6 times that of UK. England alone has three times the number of professional footy teams. It doesn't really add up.

I've (geekily) looked at the attendance averages for last season for the football league..... www.football-league.co.uk/documents/average-attendance549-2598153.pdfWe are placed 20th. There are only 2 teams from L1 and L2 with better average - Sheff utd and Portsmouth Bradford just behind us...just. Champ teams last season below us....Wigan, Millwall, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Brentford, Rotherham Teams that came up from L1 all less than us. Significant jump from our average of 13541 to next highest, Blackburn, with 14590. 9 Champ teams with average above ours and below 20k 8 champ teams with more than 20k average. On the face of it, we don't seem in such bad shape in terms of crowd in the context of the whole FL. We are however at the lower end of the championship. What is interesting, is that we had a jump of 800 ish on average between 2010/11, 2011/12, and 2012/13, peaking at just over 15k. 2013/14 saw it drop by 800 ish, and then agin by 800 ish in 2014/2015. So, it's been a consistent rise and then decline. So, at 30 quid a pop we are approx £1.1m (worse off in 2014/15 than in 2012/13 based on the 1600 difference. It's back of the fag packet stuff....no account of junior pricing, season ticket holders who have not renewed etc. I'd argue the quality has been somewhat similar since we joined the Championship.....so I think this a psychological issue with the fans......novelty, hope, and optimism only last for so long....so we have a classic curve, as we can see from the numbers. The memory of the successful Wembley day out only lasts for so long as well. How do we get the crowds higher? Another swell of hope and optimism, probably.....but that will have to be done the hard way. Like following the club's new philosophy of buy and develop to sell, loans, and fiscal prudence. BUT this will have to deliver.....quality and results. It seems we have around 1600 fans who will only come if they get one or the other or both. The numbers show what fine margins are in play though, because whilst it's not a massive percentage drop in crowds, it's clearly significant and it does make a difference when balancing the books. When I first started watching Town was in 1979. We had crowds of around 6/7k and below. Then i remember games like against Portsmouth a few years later when we near the top of the 3rd division where we got over 20k. So things could be better, they could be worse. Didn't 30k plus make it to Wembley? I believe we have the catchment, but it's now a BIG challenge for DH and the board to make the club as "sticky" as possible. But I don't believe it is too late to strike the right balance of quality, price, hope and optimism along with a sustainable approach. Others have made it past that tipping point......and we'll be one of the ones left standing when the football bubble has burst....which I don't believe is far too far away.

It would be nice if we were just Huddersfield Town FC and not part of the extremely bland football league that controls the whole match day experience. I don't want to see us walk out at the same time as the opposition to be met by flag waving kids, then everyone shakes hands while a kick racism out of football banner is seen fluttering in the distance. Tis bollocks - end of. We are Huddersfield Town not FL72 plc. Remember Joey Jones anyone, before the start of a match ? He would come out fist pumped ready for battle. Fans would respond right from the off rather than waiting 15 minutes for our first attack. I guess what I'm trying to say is that an awful lot of people have come down, seen how bland everything is and want something more for their money

Add to that the 'half time experience' - dipping in to Gemma's box, and the almost inaudible & banal ramblings of our MC, that is why we need an overhaul of the match day experience, we need to break free of the current 'norm'.

In all my time, Paul Ramsden (Togterrier} is the best, bar none! Matchday announcer we've ever had!

It's the PA that makes it inaudible... Totally different in the DG stand to the Kilner
