Look at the goals scored and goal difference - the 2022 team would beat the 2017 team. But the 2017 team had won 5 more games at this stage of the season. The current team is doing superbly, but does anyone genuinely believe it could live with the 2017 team if it played like it did when dismantling Brighton or Norwich? Spot on - that win over Brighton on a Thursday evening in Feb 2017 is one of the best Town performances of my lifetime. I love what the current squad is achieving but we haven’t produced anything near that level, especially considering the quality of the opposition.

Also I think combined teams only work if you do 2 of them, 1 for each manager with all the players at their disposal. Wagner's 2017+2022 team Nicholls Smith Schindler Colwill Lowe Mooy O'Brien Thomas Palmer VLP Ward Carlos's 2017+2022 team Nicholls Smith Pearson Schindler Colwill Lowe Mooy O'Brien Thomas Ward Brown 11 each! Wow - no Hogg!

Disappointing if we don't win, tight game though I'd imagine. Agreed. Can’t believe that so many have predicted we may win by 4 or 5. They’ve just played Fulham and Man City, 2 of the highest scoring teams in Europe, and conceded 2 in each. We are hardly what you’d call free-scoring so unlikely to be anything other than a very tight game.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but QF draw at 7.10 tonight before Everton v Boreham Wood. If we were to get through, I'd prefer to avoid Liverpool, City and Chelsea and thus have an outside chance of the semis. Boro below us in the league, Southampton, Everton (assuming they beat BW) and Palace slightly more beatable. Not sure if this has been mentioned before either: when was the last time we were involved in the FA Cup 6th round draw? By my reckoning it's 50 years ago. That's just a 20th time-segment-wise of a 1 000 years!! Which is so long ago, that William the Conqueror wasn't even a twinkle in his mother's eye. It's an historic event. Amazing. Seriously though, best draw for us would be Everton or Boreham Wood at home imo, Forest would probably think the same. Not so long as you think. We were involved in 5th round replays twice in the 90s and were in the QF draw then.

I’d like to say that I told you so way back when I saw the Baggies a couple of times, notably in a 0-0 draw at home to Derby when they looked very poor.

Didnt realise how far they were behind us til looked at the table before the game. We were 10 points behind them in nov/dec? Could be wrong!! After our draw with Cov on Dec 11th we were 5 pts behind Stoke in 6th and 10 points behind WBA - all 3 teams had played 22 games. Since then: Town 13 games 29 pts Stoke 11 games 9 pts WBA 12 games 6 pts

Blackman Ruffels Sarr Lees Pipa High Eiting Holmes Koroma Ward Sinani We could make 11 changes to the starting XI from yesterday if that was deemed necessary & still put out a competitive side. And that's with Campbell, Vallejo, Anjorin, Grant, Camara, Jones & Rowe not picked for either side (Schofield & Aarons not included in the list because neither are expected to be fit again this season). In other words, if tiredness is a concern - we can rotate every single position on the field if we so wish & still put out 2 strong sides with players to spare. Go for both cup and league. Agreed and what a difference to 12 months ago.

Liverpool win League Cup. Didn't realise it was 10 years since last win, thought they had it on subscription. Just checked and seen that's Man City. Ah well, who cares about the League Cup :-) You should know by now that Man City have every trophy on subscription - they occasionally allow someone else to win the odd one. Though, unfortunately, today is the last time until Newcastle Saudi United win the European Super Premier League in 2031.

Equally that could be levelled at Blackburn who only scored yesterday for the first time in 5. There is a grain or 2 of truth in the statement though, it is a poor division, we aren't a great team, we don't plat great football,we aren't great to watch but what we have is a great spirit and fight and are consistently getting the wins. Carlos has polished a turd no doubt. Surely if everyone can beat each other it’s a great league this year and very competitive? If the mark of a ‘great league’ is a few teams punishing the rest the Scottish Premier would be the best in the world. The SPL is way more competitive than the EPL.

Getting to the FA Cup final (my preference but maybe 2% chance) AND the play offs (always hated ‘em but 50% chance) would leave some horrendous fixture problems. I think our current squad should be able to deal with the fixture problems. We haven't had any postponements so far and there are no replays in the cup now. I'd love to see Town play in the cup final, but realistically we'd probably get hammered and come home with nothing. However in the playoff final we'd have a decent chance of coming home with £200 million and another PL adventure. By the way I don't know why you hate the playoffs. Without them we would not have tasted promotion since 1983. I meant the issue of playing: Play off semi FACup final play off semi Probably Wed Sat Tue I’ve always hated play offs as I believe promotion should be based on league position so 3 up being first 3 after 46 games. If 46 games isn’t enough to decide first 3, play 50 or 60 games - whatever you feel is necessary. We’d have certainly been promoted in 1992, 2004 and 2011 under those rules.

No - we aren't. If you extrapolate the last 15 games (Town's run) with Bournemouth's then it will be: B'muff 85 Town 81 EIGHTY ONE POINTS FOR HUDDEERSFIELD TOWN!!! A POSITIVE GOAL DIFFERENCE!!! What is this madness?? We always go up in the play offs if we get 81 points - not a point less and not a point more 😂

Have you seen Bournemouth run in it’s horrific. Do really well to go up. But they are currently second and have 2 or more games in hand on every other team - unless they are playing Man City and Liverpool away seven times each before the end of the season, they’ve got a very good chance of going up.

Bielsa fell into the trap that Wagner generally avoided. Wagner was all for the gegenpress until Spurs battered us in game seven of season 1. Then, despite the fact that many Town fans including loads on this forum, thought we should continue that gung-ho approach, Wagner realised we’d get obliterated way too often - sure, we’d score a few more but we’d let loads more in and we’d have been relegated that season. Bielsa won’t change the way they play even when they are having major injury problems so they simply can’t grind out the results. They’d go down with this approach and they may go down anyway. I don’t say this from an anti-Bielsa viewpoint - he’s worked miracles there with a largely Championship squad of players.

I’m not sure that Man City have enough advantages. Despite being the richest team in the world with the most expensive squad ever assembled in the history of the game - enough to win most teams the title by 20 points or more - and the most ludicrous VAR decisions going in their favour (see Newcastle and Everton games to make just two) they still can’t run away with the title. I think it would be appropriate if, next season, City’s opponents were required to start with only 8 players to give the poor little bleeders a chance.

Any tips for parking/pre match pint near the ground tomos? UTT I work in Brum and I wouldn’t recommend any pubs near the ground. There are some decent pubs in the ‘Custard Factory’ complex in Digbeth (15 mins walk from ground) and in the centre e.g. Wellington and Old Joint Stock (30 mins walk). However, please note that there is a Clean Air Zone within the inner ring road (A4540) which has a hefty charge if your vehicle is non-compliant (roughly speaking: diesels over 6 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old). You can travel on the A4540 but not inside it without shelling out £8.

A clean sheet would be a good achievement tomorrow. Despite their much lower league position, they've only scored 4 less goals than us this season, and have scored in their last 11 league games. I have a few ‘Bluenose’ pals where I live in Worcestershire. They feel that they have been playing way better than their results suggest for the last few weeks so your post is a timely reminder of this. However, most of those good performances have been on their travels.

In the same way that I can’t understand why losing by 5 goals to Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc is in any sense pleasureable, especially if you’ve already been there and done that. I’ve never seen us even play in an FA Cup QF. So basically when you go watch town you dont care wether they win or lose, picture the scene...playoff final thats gone to pens, Matt pearson steps up to take a pen that would see us in the prem, what would you be feeling...indifference, wanting him to miss, wanting him to score, if its one of the first two (which i guess it would be, and thats if you were at the final at all) why do you bother watching town, when town score are you pleased and do you cheer, did you cheer when John russell scored on weds, if so why??? I would want Pearson to score. I would be at the game. I always want Town to win games, every game. I wasn’t at the game on Wednesday as midweek home games are tricky for me (though I hope to be at Peterborough game, traffic permitting). I got very little joy out of most of our time in the Prem last time and I think it is even more unequal now. I’d like us to do something like Brentford who improved pretty much every season for a decade and (though I think they may yet get relegated) have been able to compete effectively in most games this season. There is nothing to be gained by having a Derby 2007/08 season - look at what has happened to them since.

I'd keep all the players we currently have and reward them for what would be a remarkable achievement. Add one or two without breaking the bank and come back down with megabucks. Then make some serious investment to have another go at it. This was how Leicester finally put together a squad capable of competing at the top table. On the other hand we could just blow it all on a few Diakhaby type donkeys. I'd take that if we didn't ship more than 5 in a game (and then only 2 or 3 times) and comfortably passed the lowest points total. If it meant getting 10 points or less and getting done by 8 or 9 (or worse) in a few games then I'm with hypotenuse on this one. I went to all the top 6 away (apart from Chelsea) last time and only started to enjoy it once I realised that we weren't going to get an absolute mauling (so usually around the 80th minute!). I've too much pride in my team to spend the next 20 years being constantly reminded of losing 10-0 somewhere, especially since we were possibly the last team to conceded 10 in a game anyway? (barring ridiculous international mis-matches). We were the last team to concede 10 goals in a league game - ironically, I seem to remember it was just a few weeks after the previous occasion. Maybe a 3rd tier game between Gillingham and Colchester but I’d have to check that. Edit: just checked and it was Gillingham 10-0 against Chesterfield on 5th September 1987. That was the first occasion a FL team had scored 10 since 1964 and the only occasion (out of 62 such occurrences) where a team has scored 10 in the FL without anyone getting a hat-trick. Ironically, Chesterfield were top of the table and hadn’t conceded a goal (in 4 games) up to that point of the season.

Whatever people who don’t want to get back to the PL think. —— Thankfully, the club, coaches and players will be aiming to get there. Otherwise, what is the point of it all? I totally agree. I’m just telling you that I don’t give a toss about going up. I’d much, much rather a seriously good run in the FA Cup - we’ve never been past the QF in my lifetime - indeed, I’m not sure we’ve been past the QF since 1938.

Though I’m loving this season, I genuinely hope we don’t go up. The Prem is way, way harder than 5 years back - even the middling- bottom sides are decent. Seriously, Everton and Leeds aren’t bad sides and they’re in a relegation scrap. If we did get promoted,I’d settle for infrastructure rebuilding and avoiding Derby’s all-time low points total but it would be a gruelling and largely fruitless year.

Its 14 games actually but 7 of those have been draws. With a few more goals we could have been in the top two. An average of 2 points a game over the 14 games. That is auto promotion form. I'd say that it would be something of a stretch to ask for more than that. We’ve averaged close to a point a game for the last two seasons (and comfortably less than that in the Prem). Like you say, we’re averaging two per game for a large chunk of this season and plenty on here still think the manager has his tactics wrong - it sure is a crazy world that we live in.

The return of Colwill allows us to play 3 at the back with 2 wingers at wing back. I like Ruffels and Turton, but they lack the attacking skills and guile to help with overcoming a parked bus. Turton was playing right centre half for the majority of the game. Our best periods came when he was moved to right back and Thomas was a winger. Agreed - Turton at RB gives Thomas greater security and freedom. Makes a big difference.
