I was right behind it and it was a penalty no doubt about it. I thought we deserved a point, but they clearly had some good players and one who is excellent at diving.

Thing is, I don't think he is that good at diving. His dives are so theatrical and obvious. How do officials keep being conned by him?

If that had been awarded against us then we would have been livid. As others say we had too many players having an off day and showed little ambition to get the ball forward quickly. There will have to be a big improvement in the next two games if we are to get anything from them given the standard of the opposition. Let's not blame the ref as we are work in progress and hopefully we get the missing pieces of the jigsaw in order for us to defend better and take our opportunities when they present. Well it was a blatant handball so the only complaints would've been with the player who'd actually done it if it had been given against us. Ref wasn't at fault for our lack of chances, but we were denied a clear opportunity to get a point which wouldn't have been completely undeserved (I'm not saying we deserved to win, as we clearly didn't, but I don't necessarily think we deserved to lose).

I'm trying to get away from this site so stop winding me up! Clearly hit his chest, it was not a penalty, it did not hit his hand or arm......end of!

That doesn't really prove anything , other than we came damned close to scoring and getting a deserved point.

you only have to look at the Leicester game as to how penalties are not given however clear they are - southampton player rounds the goalkeeper shoots for goal and the Leicester defender flicks his arm out deliberately hands the ball and no penalty given - how clear a penalty and a sending off you will never see

Flicked his arm out? he was sideways on to the ball and it hit his upper arm as it was planted against the side of his body. Would have been very harsh IMO as hed have had to remove his arm for the ball to not hit it.
It is a grey area though. Maybe the rule should be simply if it hits your hand or arm its handball and a pen, whether you meant it or not

Forget giving a penalty, if it's handball on the line and there's nobody else to potentially stop the ball going in, a goal should be given and the player booked. Doesn't help us if we get a penalty and miss it rather than being given a goal that would've resulted had the ball not been stopped with his hand.

I take it once the video technology is introduced that we would be able to appeal a decision like that immediately?

I take it once the video technology is introduced that we would be able to appeal a decision like that immediately? you might hope so....Rugby league and to some degree rugby union now have video technology to ensure decisions are right - so does cricket, and tennis... The opponents say this would 'ruin the continuity of football' ..but that's bollocks...is it too much to expect that the decisions made are correct ? For a multi billion £ sport, the refereeing of games in amateurish . No one can argue against a correct decision, but this festering grievance many clubs have over bad decisions by refs and lino's has got to be sorted. The only problem though is will a ref refer a decision he's made and is convinced is right...what then if afterwards he's proved wrong ? A 4th (or 5th) TV ref would be needed to over-rule the on field ref if he's checked the video and found an error...

Arsene will insist on having a video ref, ref and that it be passed onto a higher authority if he isnt happy with the 64 bloody angles that the ref made the decision from.. goal line tech fine.. the rest is still about an opinion near enough.. you can actually make an argument for everything else being an opinion if you try..

We've been debating this for 2 days now and even with video evidence opinions are split. Just imagine for a moment how many cameras would be required to cover every angle. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards Exactly. The game would take 3 hours to play and it wouldn't resolve all the doubt around decisions. Fine for black and white decisions like goal line, but this is the perfect example of why it would not work wholesale.

You would need enough HD quality cameras and operators (Sky use 24) covering 360 degrees to monitor all incidents, and that we won't get. My opinion was no penalty incidentally.

might have been a foul, might not..we were right next to it.. ref gave a foul and as hudson was on a yellow and didnt need to make the challenge anyway, lets just say it wasnt his most sensible decision... my kind head on today..

The cost of HD cameras continues to drop, so it wouldn't be that big an investment. Probably what it costs us to pay one of our players for a week as a comparison. He leans in to it with his arm, how can that not be a penalty?

Take another look, the ball hasn't actually hit him at that point and could have hit him on the shoulder.

Bloody hell mate, the ball is only a few inches away & would have impacted him a fraction of a second later. No way could he react that quickly to change position. Definite pen for me. The sort we never get given though, but you can bet your life that if it was for Wednesday (especially at the other end) it would have been given.

The highlights on TownPlayer clearly show that Hudson first wins the ball cleanly and then he takes the man with his momentum. In no way does it look dirty or threatening a knee break, not even a foul, just a strong, good challenge. It's also blatant handball.
