I received the same reply that others have indicated above;
My response to Gareth:
Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm fairly sure that I have heard this phrase many times on your radio station - 'BBC Radio Leeds, The Home Of Huddersfield Town Commentaries,' clearly there has been a change of policy? A few comments: Your point 1) "DAB has crystal clear quality" --- great; but I'm interested in listening to football comments not the Proms or Shakespeare, so this is irrelevant. Your point 2) "Hudds fans have access to the match commentary etc." - Well, obviously, I haven't got THAT! Your point 3) Consultation --- I have asked around and I know of nobody who is aware of this consultation - perhaps you could enlighten me as to the form that this consultation took and the folk that were consulted? Your point 4) I drive a one year old car -- no DAB.....or, of course I wouldn't have written my original email....
What I really want is for you - Radio Leeds - to provide the level of public service broadcasting that was the norm in the past.. If you reply is that I have a choice of listening to the excellent Oggy and Co. on DAB or nowt, then I suppose I'll have to reluctantly invest in another radio or forego the radio programme as part of my match day. I'll almost certainly opt for the latter. I realise that you've probably had a lot of communication on this matter, but, if you are in any doubt about the annoyance (far greater than my own) generated by this rather high handed decision then I refer you to the message-board DATM for further detailed enlightenment..
Best Regards

Ita total hogwash Morley .. beyond ridiculous I have got DAB in my car and at home, most People I know have DAB in their car, am I missing something / the point?. So what about the people who can't get DAB reception & aren't fortunate enough to have DAB in their cars? The vast majority of people can get AM reception I would have thought.

Your comments in bold are brilliant. Send it back to the patronising prick with those included.. Disagree completely, firstly fair play for even responding as in this day and age, most don't. Secondly there is nothing whatsoever wrong with his response, fair and well written. It's baloney, mate.

So it seems that the Town on DAB decision is final and irreversible, so perhaps now we should find ways to solve the problem.
Last season there were at least two fans streaming radio on a 3rd party website (mixr?) - neither of which were aired on Saturday...
I wouldn't have the foggiest idea where to start with this, nor do I own a DAB radio anyway. But what I did notice yesterday was someone using Facebook Live to let people watch the Community Shield. I've no idea of the quality of the video, but this matters not for radio. Are there any DAB radio owners prepared to use their phone to 'Facebook Live' tomorrow night's radio commentary?

Exactly, I've a new car with electric everything and twin alternators to power it all, DAB no! as others have said both L666ds and Bradford have messed Radio L666ds about over the past few years and yet its us that gets the Shitty end of the stick, tw@ts

Only cars built in the last 2-3 years have DAB, and it's not always standard equipment, you have to pay extra for the option.

I obviously care about you licence payers more than that shower at RL who are paid by us to do this kind of thing. What is a dab anyway?

Ultimately he isn't going to answer the question "why when only 2 of the 3 teams were playing, were Town shoved on DAB?". He should, but clearly he won't, no doubt because he can't actually justify it. In fact be it ethically, technically or anything else, there is absolutely no justification for it. If all 3 were playing then maybe, possibly, it might possibly be a bit acceptable every so often, but when only 2 were playing? Sorry, but no excuse. As for saying technically they can't split FM frequencies, well I may not be the most technically minded person on the planet, but if they managed it before, I'm sure they can now.
Whichever way he tries to spin it, he won't be able to justify the decision and so he'll keep skirting around the issue answering other questions (bit like politicians actually).

Mxlr is dead easy, you just press record and stick your radio near the mic ...I'd do it but DAB where I am is useless, I did it occasionally with FM but surely there is somebody out there with a bit of nouce ??

Is there a likelihood this could happen this season ?

surely a contract works both ways, so if radio leeds are not providing a service for huddersfield town - by not providing a service for the supporters, then the contract is being broken by the BBC isn't it? You can argue the toss I suppose about DAB, but as stated elsewhere not everyone has DAB. So surely provision of service should include either a MW frequency, or a FM frequency as these are available to all?

Well maybe the fact that we are 7 pages in and people on here who don't normally kick off seem genuinely upset... So maybe you and your mates aren't as representative of fans as you may think Onto Gareth's responses Re dab quality ... I've had a dab for getting,on 20 years ... Crystal clear on talksport radio 4 etc... Awful awful awful reception for radio leeds, non existent at times... Never had a problem with 774am post match..never .. As for the consultation bit.. Well he's obviously consulted with you and your mates... People are genuinely upset.. They haven't consulted diddly squat that's just a lie isn't it .. As for the new cars bit ... Well I just find that patronising I'm sorry... A total pigs ear of a response imo... A better one might have been " ok looking at t in hindsight I think we have made a bit of a pigs ear of this

Sadly this is part of a larger Government led initiative which will ultimately lead to the sell off of the FM and MW bands in the UK, and the BBC and their Government puppet masters are complicit in this. A similar scheme was tried in Norway where they planned to switch off all AM and FM services by around 2018 but because DAB take up has been so poor it has had to be shelved indefinitely. Bring back Home 107.9, it was very amateurish but at least they were Town through and through.
I wonder if Deano knows about this and whether he could push any pressure to bear on Radio L**ds?
Anyway they'll come sucking up to us next year when we are in the Premier League and L**ds are in League 1 with the Chickens.

Regardless of whether or not you DAB in the car, most folk who listen to commentaries (particularly away games), do so in their own homes and how many folk have a DAB radio at home?
It wouldn't be so bad if you could listen to the commentary online but despite the fact that the match build up is online, the actual commentaries aren't.

So basically we need somebody that listens to games at home (maybe even abroad) to host it on mixlr. Im guessing that wont add to radio leeds' viewing figures, could even been used on a smartphone in car.

Dear Garath, Thanks for your reply. However it appears to be a generic reply sent to most if not all the other Town fans who have complained about the DAB only coverage and fires not actually address the 2 main points I raised
1. Why were Bradford on both MW and FM when only 2 teams were playing. Or to put it another way what justified putting Bradford on to FM as well as MW?
2. Why is the huddersfield version of post match reaction not on listen again. I know the interviews are, but fans want to hear other view points (I presume that is why the post match program asks for people to get in touch) But despite the interviews carrying a link claiming it is from the post match prog, it only takes you to the FM version.
This 2nd point is not just an issue from this week. It was the same last season in that only the version broadcast on FM was put on listen again. Surely it's not too hard to put the other versions on also.
In more general terms, I take the following from your justification for town being DAB.
80% of new cars might have DAB, but 80% of people don't have a new car, in fact I believed nationally only 15% of cars have DAB.
However, As Radio Leeds have had a long successful partnership with town and took this decision after consultation. I will take comfort in assuming that when DAB does become more widespread you will presumably continue to put Huddersfield on that platform and not "relegate" them on to one of the other 2?
I am interested in who and how you consulted before making this decision?

I recently changed my car and fortunately it has DAB radio and it's okay but no more than that in fact it's useless in certain areas and between some buildings which obviously block the signal! I agree with others on here that Town should be on 774am at the very least - it's not too long ago that we were on both FM and am because no other team were interested in radio Leeds! On a slightly different note that Adam Pope bloke gets on my nerves with his constant sucking up to everything Leeds United - it's almost embarrassing To listen to!
