Best ref we've had for ages. Its impossible for refs to get it right everytime these days with all the cheating/play acting that goes on, but he got most things right tonight. But a pull back on a player sprinting into the attacking half is a booking from 99% of refs. So why wasn't this one applying the same rules? I think if Dorrens stops play then it's a booking. However, Palmer just shrugged him off and it didn't materially affect the game at the time. Then again if Dorrens had been booked then he would have to be on his p and q's for the rest of the game.

Was that the same ref as at reading? It was indeed - darn sight better than last time, though, it has to be said. Think VLP was keeping an eye on him :-) Thought someone said it was. 2 things then- how he refereed the game was totally different. i wonder if someones had a word with him after our game at reading. He was just so confrontational there, causing more issues than he was solving. Maybe its because he was on TV? he had an excellent game tonight IMO. And our conduct was so much better aswell. The staff must have hammered into the players that we couldn't do the whinging we were doing at reading with this guy. can't remember any town player questioning a decision really tonight. Ive no problem with a ref clamping down on dissent. But he took it to his own special level at reading, and one that had no link to how all the other refs act.

We will never get a penalty. No point even appealing anymore. Good job he missed out first goal.

I dare say a bit of both happened - VLP would have taken a bit of a blast for what happened at Reading, as would the referee for being hypersensitive, but even so (after it became clear who was refereeing), it was great to see that Town weren't going to give him a chance to be controversial again, i.e. simply by way of keeping the ball for most of the time - so there was nothing really for him to get controversial about. Nevertheless, the ref certainly proved for me today that there's nothing personal about it - he probably just had an "off day" at Reading - although, even so, just to make sure, by playing the way we did - it didn't really give him much choice but to referee as he did. Well, it's what Deano wanted - the performance had Dortmund written all over it - clean, fair and clinical. What a pleasure to watch tonight!! But anyway was the same ref really that bad at Reading (aside from the VLP sending off)? What do you mean by him taking it to his own special level at Reading?

The referee's word is final, now that's where the argument starts.

No glaring contentious decisions wrong (either way) on the night which is refreshing and rare for us Town fans. The decision that we got, was of course down to the linesman and not the referee.

good to get a dodgy decision in our favour, but the Town players he booked seemed harsh, Mooy and Wells , when you consider how many fouls they did on palmerEvery time Palmer moved forward with the ball a Norwich player either kicked him or pulled him. He was magnificent last night.

I guess if the refs gave em after considering if the challenge made 'should' make a grown man fall over, there would be very few..

The player didn't really give him any option. ( though it has to be said VLPs first yellow was a joke IMO ). But all through the game he was just so hyper sensitive to any player ( in red ) moaning at an official. Think at least 2 other town players got carded for it, but each time they weren't screaming in the linos face or anything- just having a whinge at a decision they thought was wrong. The same thing that happens thousands of times each saturday in the FL without a card being shown. His way of reffing had no consistency with how ALL other refs judge dissent.

We'd have been apoplectic if we hadn't been awarded it. Tim Robinson, our ref for the 1-1 home draw with Charlton two seasons ago, up to his old tricks. First he disallows a perfectly good goal for Rotherham and then he gives Wednesday a 93rd minute penalty and sends the Rotherham player off when there appears to be no contact. I recall being apoplectic at the end of that Charlton game when Ben Haim pushed Vaughan in the chest with both hands and Robinson said no penalty. Then Charlton went up the other end for a 92nd minute equaliser. Wallace's red card was rescinded and it will be interesting to see if Rotherham appeal against the sending off.

Forget the two stonewallers we were denied against Wigan, that one referred to above in that Charlton game was the single worst refereeing decision I have witnessed in my 34 years watching football. I haven't been as angry after a game as I was that day, that c*nt cost us two points at a time when three would have given us great momentum under Mark Lillis. It was worse that the Reading cup tie, Robinson had been involved in a 'few words' with Vaughan minutes before that incident and his denial of the penalty was undoubtedly his way of getting back at Vaughan, which is so unprofessional and he should be removed from refereeing for LIFE for that decision - it was BIAS and not incompetence.

The guy didn't even look at the ball, he just went straight at Vaughan and shoved him over. Absolutely abysmal decision. I also forgot about Murray Wallace's red card in that for being last man despite Joel Lynch clearly being there covering. It was a terrible display from the ref that day. Every decision went 1 way.

After watching Villa vs Leeds and the Villa penalty. I now know what we are doing wrong when not getting stonewall penalty decisions.
We need our Players to aggressively surround, manhandle and push the referee around, whinge and refuse to carry on playing until the decision is given to us.
Sorted (well it worked for Villa).

The ref saw it and just assumed it was for a free kick so gave it the other way. As I posted in the other thread, I have no idea why he didn't give it himself seeing as he was looking straight at it.

it's beyond reason that a multi billion £ sport like football still relies on 3 old fogeys to make critical decisions that affect matches, players, managers, fans, chairmen...etc...

The linesman was the chap who has been doing it in the premier league for years, probably why he had the bottle to pipe up and give something. We might have got something out of the Wigan game if he had been the liner instead of the one who completely bottled the Wells incident
