Ireland are going through a bit of a tough time these days in terms of the standard of player coming through. Obviously doesn't help when some quality players have opted to play for a different country
I think they had just 2 Premier League players in their starting 11 yesterday and one of those hardly plays. 15 years ago I bet their starting 11 would have been almost all Premier League players with the likes of Shay Given, Oshea, Roy and Robbie Keane, Duff, Carr, Reid etc
Strange how countries go through these lulls of having limited talent and then suddenly a decent crop of players emerge.

Wales will go the same way when Bale and Ramsey retire. Eire weren't good though pre Jack Charlton even though they had the likes of Liam Brady and Judas Stapleton playing

Grealish and Rice. How can you change country? Shouldn’t be allowed.

Having a grandparent from another country shouldn’t allow you to play for them. Neither should going to school in that country (Jordan Rhodes).

Ireland are not the only country to have players born outside of Ireland to represent them, I believe 4 of the Italian team that beat England were born in Brazil and Italy have a long history of using Argentinian and Uruguayan players going back to the 1920s, One of Spains most famous players, Alfredo di Stefano was born in Argentina and played for them and they also have a long history of using Argentinian and Brazilian born players. The Dutch have used players born in their overseas territories even after the territories gained independance, Terence Kongolo was born in Switzerland. England themselves have used players with no connection Tony Dorigo (Italian father Australian mother) and players born abroad , Raheem Sterling Cyrille Regis John Barnes and Terry Butcher. I suppose the best would be the England cricket team where it seems anyone born anywhere is eligible with rugby union a close second.

Cyprus 1-0 Greece, bet that's led to some interesting action 😖 Why? Cos I was thinking the Greeks and Cypriots didn't like each other when it's the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots that don't get on. Apologies

Lot of fair physicality in the game, which the ref let go on. Great stuff. You can have decent play and physical challenges, proved it today.

Shocking tackle and he clearly did it on purpose as he could have won the ball but slowed down and changed angle towards the player

Shocking tackle and he clearly did it on purpose as he could have won the ball but slowed down and changed angle towards the player VAR? Other than that tackle and the fuckwit commentator and expert 'applauding' another ludicrous 'professional foul' it was a hard fought, entertaining game with some decent football played.

Sorba on for last 5 mins with Wales losing 1-0 to Poland
Within 2 mins they get a free kick on the left, level with the edge of the area. Bale, Moore and the CB's to aim for and they have Sorba as last man on the halfway line instead of taking it 🙄

Sorba cross, straight onto Bales head 12 yards out and he rattles the bar

Why wait so long to bring Thomas on after bringing Moore on? Sorba was over on the right wing in acres of space calling for the ball and they went kept going left. Absolutely baffling.

Sorba playing for Wales: can’t believe they’re not utilising his vast talent properly!
Never change, DATM.

Now if Northern Cyprus beat Greece🤪 Should be no such country/territory as Northern Cyprus. It's never been part of Turkey, the Ottoman Empire had (spurious) claims to it, but Cyprus has been part of Greece (before independence) since before Alexander the Great. The Cypriot action is supposed to be what stops Turkey joining the EU ... illegal occupation of a sovereign territory, but some rules go out the window when EU wants something. You can't even buy Turkish Delight in South Cyprus they despise them so much. Mam and dad went every year before Covid, they were even thinking of retiring there.
