outfought and outrun. free header and an utterly pointless and incredibly stupid penalty just popped the cherry on another nothing performance.. Huddersfield Town 0... probably the best ... the home atmosphere cant help a very impotent attacking game.. first 20 minutes had to check who was at home.. so many off the pace and lacking any bite and watching benteke have a free day was tough.. still, we are punching above our weight without landing a f-cking glove at the moment... Ok our players might not be good enough but another wank performance in a must win game , we looked like Pussys palace the Terriers . Going down with a whimper no way can that team of bottlers get another point

Disagree - Man City will be too distracted and hopefully Arsenal, too. Would still need to improve on today by a long shot, though - which shouldn't be difficult. Southampton are at home to Man City in the last match. Will City be going "flat out"? Yes, I'd take a motivated Southampton to beat a half-arsed City, too. Would be close, though. But Southampton may be half arsed too, it's looking glum for them and they may be relegated by then - but that's only my optimistic side speaking.

Can someone please explain why our better striker (in all aspects of play) was sat on the bench all through the game?

That's 16 league games now in which we haven't scored, over half our games
Yet a second striker was nowhere to be seen. It'll be some achievement if we do stay up after scoring so few goals

We've become a one trick pony going forward-. We play it wide every single time. If we manage to get a decent cross in we have one player in the box . Why o why are we not playing depoitre, and once in a while playing a ball down the middle or over the top -just once in a while please?

A worryingly poor performance. Credit to Palace as they pressed us and closed us down from the first minute, and broke with pace and quality, but Town were so poor. Nearly the whole team had absolute stinkers. Ince in particular was terrible, but he was far from alone. We can criticise Wagner's tactics if we wish, but when a team play collectively as poor as that it really doesn't matter all that much. All aspects of our game were poor, but it was concerning to see Palace so much quicker with and without the ball.
We are now under pressure to pick up points, so hopefully we can stand up and be counted - just as Palace did today. We need to find something from somewhere because we have little room for manoeuvre now.
FWIW I think Palace, now they have their players coming back from injury, are capable of going on a run that will see them safe. I haven't checked their fixtures, but they looked a very decent team today. We would have had to have been at the very top of our game to beat them today. As it turned out, we didn't really give them much to beat.

Can someone please explain why our better striker (in all aspects of play) was sat on the bench all through the game? As opposed to the striker who did play, and prevented a 0-2 from becoming a 0-3, you mean? Always used to think Palace were decent fans, but whilst they aren't thugs like Millwall or L**ds they are the most arrogant, mouthy set of Jeremy Hunts I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. I hope they go bust (again).

Lets face it...they're a better team than us. Fact. And for that reason today somehow doesn't feel as bad as last week. Observations Kongolo has to be fit for the rest of the season Mooy not good enough I don't think. A shadow of the player he once was. Slow, lethargic, shite. The decision to put VLP on the bench instead of Ince? Does anyone know a reason behind this? The mind boggles how Ince still gets game time. Not putting Depoitre on is just ridiculous. A tough one to take but I still think we'll be okay.

Why o why are we not playing depoitre, and once in a while playing a ball down the middle or over the top -just once in a while please? We do seem very predictable. I was getting frustrated today that we kept playing into congested areas and rarely looked for the quick switch of play. We also rarely played passes that missed a player out, or looked to play over the top of their fullbacks. The lack of variety is not helping our limited attack.

It's tough to be upbeat after a game like that. We still have 7 games, 4 of which hold a good chance that we can at least have a good go at. We're not down and out yet. That's right. Difficult to understand how we turn up in some games and not others. Bournemouth on paper was tougher than Swansea or Palace. If we were sharp and performing I'd be confident we could get something at Newcastle and Brighton but we have now lost that bit of momentum. Future still depends on our performance levels.....very fortunately. Shame we/they won't be able to enjoy the international break!

Perhaps, but they comprehensively outplayed us in every aspect of the game. They outworked us too. We will find out how good they are between now and the end of the season, but they comfortably dealt with us, and could have won by more. But, considering they were under alot of pressure to get a result today, I thought they played pretty well. Just a shame failed to give them more of a game.

Palace weren't a poor team IMO. There were at it from the first whistle and did to us what we normally do to others. Credit to them for producing a display when they needed one. We need to improve our defending from corners we looked really susceptible at WBA from them and today they had men free all over the place. I hope Kongolo is fit for the rest of the season has he has been a big miss defensively for us today and if he had played last week I think it may have prompted an early change to a back three against the unambitious Swans allowing extra attacking options on earlier. We will get more space away from home at Newcastle and Brighton for the likes of Pritchard to exploit, the last 2 results should mean we go there looking to win each game. I doubt either of our opponents will defend as deep as Swansea and Palace (after they went in front). Produced a 'Team' display, not one of individuals. I wondered if the comment fired them up.

Spot on.....we can't compete at this level when so many players are simply awful on the day. Hogg and mooy would have done nothing in league one on that display.....both of them were shocking. Have to dust ourselves down and come out fighting in two tough away games....wont get another point if we repeat that display.

Palace play the exact game plan that we struggle against. You can’t press them as they don’t play with the ball at the back or in the middle. They are very organised at the back and try to lump it forward or play on the break so that they can isolate players one on one.
If it is every a straight man for man contest then we will lose as most teams have spent at least £100m more than us.
We also struggled a bit to play our football today in the conditions and the ref was awful.
Interesting that the palace fans were saying that we were a dirty team yet they were awful today. Their two central midfielders are probably the dirtiest combo we have seen this season.
We are still 15th though and have games to come that we can pick up points in. All is not lost.

Hodgsons tactics were spot on today and unfortunately Wagner never changed his. Why dont we ever change tactics? particularly when we have one automatic tactic change on the bench with Depoitre

It's going to be a long 2 weeks before the Newcastle game Not meaning to be even more negative, but if I recall we rarely return from a break with a win or draw. I could be wrong, you're the stats guru Doc so you'd probably know for sure, but it has felt that way after the past Int'l breaks.

I'm beginning to think that this is all going to come down to the last match against Arsenal. Was thinking exactly the same - What would GBJ Yorkie be offering in the case of a Town win to inspire us to stay up? :-) I could offer to get my arse out too, but I'd be arrested for it in Stuttgart - in Berlin (they're cooler up north), I'd probably be able to get away with it with a laugh or two from the police. I have booked flights for Everton and Arsenal at home so any baring of my arse will be in a Hudds COOP window Joe.

If we had done our job well today, we would have silenced them, and they would have just been another set of supporters who we didn't hear a squeak out of. I am not going all knee jerk following that today, but I kind of sensed almost a feeling of resignation that we might have blown our last realistic chance ( and please no condescending comments that nothing was decided today ). I know that and shall keep the optimism going to the end, but it ain't looking too good right now.

Well that was bloody garbage from Town. Biggest game of the season and we turn up and play like that? No one played well, passing awful, final ball awful, no urgency, just crap start to finish. Somebody asked Wagner ifor he was worried about the lack of goals, he said 'go and watch Man City if you want more goals' well Mr Wagner goals win games and we seem short on them.
