Absolutely fantastic signing. ....have to wonder though was Norman Hunter ever referred to as a world cup winner? I certainly can't recall it and first started watching football in 1970 (so the comparative time period). No question marks over his signing but the World Cup winner is OTT. Who outside the starting 11 can name anyone from the England World Cup winning squad? Sorry, but just because you or I can not name them does not diminish the other players achievement in being part of a TEAM that reached that level. Unless something has changed it has always been a TEAM sport. But, I would agree with what you are saying as regards those who get rather carried away with hyperbole shall we say and get a bit Wednesday/Leeds like in their over enthusiastic expressions and platitudes. Does make you cringe a bit.

Love the fact it isn’t enough for him to have just been in the German WC winning squad... the left back in their team was Phillip Lahm FFS Pretty sure without looking it up Lahm was right back and even stepped up to play as a midfielder in some games.

Amazed that the lad has agreed to only one year deal. Very good work from Town. A wonder if we tried the initial loan with a view to signing route.

He must be shit!..... I'm chuffed. We're arguing over whether he won the world cup or not. The very fact he was in the squad, or has even played for Germany, or been to a world cup, is quite frankly amazing for a club that like ours. Just think where we have come from in only three years!

Who gives a shit if he actually played at the world cup, he was good enough to be part of THAT squad only 4 years ago as a 22 year old rising star. Yes injuries have set him back over the last few seasons but if anyone said at the time we'd have a member of the German world cup 2014 winning squad just coming into his prime we'd have all laughed & thought drugs were at play. It's a huge coup for the club, if Wagner can keep him fit & get him back to the standards he set a few years ago he'll be the best fullback we've had at the club in many, many years. Of course, I hope the guy becomes a Town legend... but the truth is he'd only played about 15 first team games before he was on the plane to the World Cup. He was clearly viewed as a prodigious talent at a time that competition for that position was lacking. He was the Trent Alexander-Arnold of that squad (or Walcott circa 2006). To class him as a World Cup winner is strictly true, but doesn't tell the full tale...

What? This new guy couldnt even get into the German world cup side ahead of Phillip Lahm? Jesus christ. Its not like Lahm he was one of the best players of his generation who captained Bayern to their champions 5 years running. Oh hold on...

The medal is in his trophy cabinet... I'd feel a fraud. That's like the cleaner of a technology company getting in a major invention just by the virtue of being there, tenous at best. 3 million ?

Have we now got the greatest defence in the history of HTAFC? Time will tell, but we must be the envy of most teams in the league. Quite unbelievable Durm,Kongolo, Zanka, Schindler and Lossl I doubt our defence is the envy of *any* team in the league. Except maybe Cardiff! It’s definitely up there though...although Vaesen, Jenkins, Gray, Dyson, Cowan was pretty immense although in a different context not really comparable with where we are now.

Its not like Lahm he was one of the best players of his generation who captained Bayern to their champions 5 years running Howedes was one of the best CB/LB at Schalke who occasionally captained them to third in the league and round 16 of the Champions League. Oh hold on... Edited for Accuracy

It sounds like a big step in quality according to DW. Hope he stays injury free. I think we might find out what a difference a full back who can cross can make.
We could be top half side with Pritchard, Durm, Kongo, Moonie, Juninho all firing alongside last year’s standouts.

Well then he couldn't dislodge Lahm, Howedes, Grosskreutz or Boeteng. That's both left and right covered, just for the sake of accuracy and argument, by those who played minutes in those positions.

Its not like Lahm he was one of the best players of his generation who captained Bayern to their champions 5 years running. Oh hold on... Might be wrong but I remember Löw having Durm play at left-back during the run-up to that World Cup (Lahm played on the right) and it was Höwedes (Schalke 04 at that time) who "did a Kongolo" and actually played left-back at the World Cup, i.e taking Durm's designated position. Really, Durm only went to that World Cup because the normal left-back, Schmelzer, was injured just before it. At Dortmund, Durm switched back to right-back when Schmelzer got fit again. Durm can truly play in both positions.

There’s a few teams will be eyeing the success of Schindler & lossl enviously- much better than any of klopps keepers at any rate. Vaesen, Monkou, Lucketti, Edwards, Jenkins was the previous best but not close on today’s all stars.

Yes Lahm was probably the best right back I've ever seen so no shame in understudying him.

Some short, sorry no, non-existent memories on here.
Not so long back at all we would have been competing with the likes of Barnsley for Walsall's highly rated right-back,
But oh no, now we are signing International Players from Clubs such as Dortmund and IT STILL ISNT GOOD ENOUGH.
FFS.

Probably got a golden goodbye from Dortmund (didn’t request a move). Then a good signing on fee from Town as well Whatever happens that’s better than riding out the last year of his deal and missing two lump sums ... plus he’ll play regularly (barring injuries) Very astute deal by all involved Durm back with the manager who “made” him so great chance to get his career back on track We get a top full back for low financial risk There’s usually one lower key signing that becomes a star, eg Flo. I reckon this will prove to be great business for all involved

Whereas the highly rated Walsall player featured for them in every round of the Leyland Paint Trophy before losing on penalties to Rotherham in the quarter finals. r

Wagner rates him also and that's good enough for me. I am pleased with this signing and looking forward to seeing him play.
