Looks like you came out of school unable to use a comma, unless they've left teaching you that until after the summer holidays? I would suggest “..people ARE coming...” would be more useful than a comma. You might then argue that you could / should bob a comma in after “Now” and I’d probably agree. I also think that part of your reply could be constructed better - “they’ve left teaching you that” would be much nicer as “they’ve left teaching that to you”. OK, I’m bending over waiting to be critiqued, get on with it!😉 Collin Quaner may be clumsy at times, and can't head a ball for toffee, but I bet he stays on topic!

I find your suggested rewording of my post a little more cumbersome, although it's equally valid and may be much nicer, as you suggest, but I'm not trying to be nice.

Fellow grammarphobics Mayorofcov and Jimmymac, are generally quite entertaining too. Going back a few years, when I began lurking on here, Arsenal(remember him/her?) was my absolute favourite. I was gutted when that prize fuckwit and mangler of the English language disappeared. Mind you, I normally only spend time on here when pissed and/or attempting to avoid the everyday drudgery of my real life. For what it's worth, I also like Collin Quaner, and for inexplicable reasons, would be sad to see him leave. As they say around these parts, there's nowt as queer as folk.

Joe always posts sensible views, and the level of grammar in general is appalling. I go on Facebook and see friends post like they are just mashing the keyboard with a shoe and wonder how we all went to the same school for 10 years!
That said, if you’re gonna have a pop at illiteracy you need your own post to be squeaky clean...and if you are going to reveal you’re a Dr try not to let the word you spell wrong be ‘healthcare’.
Roll on next Saturday when we can all focus on the important stuff again!

Yet another thread hijacked by a right load of bollocks! I know it's a forum and people are allowed an opinion....it's what this platform is here for....but, just about every thread goes off it's original topic and becomes a childish argument that people have to wade through to try and get to the information that they were looking for when they clicked on to the opening post. This is happening all too much recently and getting worse, i'd say thank goodness the season starts next week but then we will have to put up with the deluded, entitled dicks that call for Wagners head when we lose to Chelsea!!!

Nevermind the correct use of grammar, Colin can’t even spell his first name correctly.

Are you one of our precious and inept teachers? Let’s start with sentences and go from there. No, I'd hate to be a teacher in this country, it's a thankless task. Not that it's relevant, but I work as a medical doctor, my alma maters are currently ranked as the top two universities in the world. If I write a post criticising someone else's use of the English language, I try to make sure my own post contains no errors. I see that you haven't gone to the same lengths. What was it you said about standards, again? No you’re quite right, I’ve just had a rant with a few typos & predictive text errors that I didn’t bother to check. I was just making the point about sentences and the need for a verb. I didn’t actually mention grammar. Syntax and grammar are different sub cantegories as the post grad linguist will agree. (Great work I’m full of admiration for that btw) Doesn’t reading “would of” get on your nerves especially from nick who knows it’s “would have” and can write perfectly acceptable English when he chooses to. The guy is not the imbecile he portrays. On Commars though, imho they are overused. They’re often used when people are unsure of their grammar and so people start to chuck them in ‘willy nilly’. I bet the linguistics expert agrees that this happens, or has heard of the “over use of commars” argument before. I do actually, generally make a big effort to write my posts 100% accurately on my phone but it is a message board, as others have pointed out. There’s plenty of room for a relaxing of rules but not so far as sentences without verbs, for those who know better. That’s just my opinion. On Colin Q I have to be honest and say I won’t miss him. I don’t really understand how he’s made it as a professional when he doesn’t head the ball, at all, his first touch is shocking, his second touch isn’t great, he doesn’t have a shot on him and he can only pass short distances. He isn’t fast and he can’t tackle or track back very well. Yes he has that unconventional, gangly, bumbling style and for sure it can be, and has been effective at times for us but I was never enthused when he was the bench option. Hefele was the one I’d have given another year to as he’s a decent player technically and a natural leader.
