I’d love this to happen. Good fucking riddance. Have said it's coming for ages. If it does....then one thing HAS to happen - if the current big boys go and it doesn't work out - they can't come straight back. I have zero interest in it but this is a Euro or even world league we are talking about and the worldwide audience potential is huge. Woe betide those who struggle in this format though- individual tv or broadcasting deals will definitely feature and they could end up being left so far behind in less than a decade that the format becomes much less attractive.

Thought about this earlier. They'll just have to start in League 2 that's all.

Is that top 11 a list of the most soulless clubs in European football?
Hope the door doesn't hit their arses on the way out 👋
Once out they should be told there's no return.
Guaranteed after afew years of finishing bottom Arsenal fans will be pawing at the door like a shitting Collie dog trying to get back in out of the cold.
Fuck off 🖕😠🖕

Wouldn’t shed 1 single tear if that lot all fucked off! As said earlier, think it will rejuvenate leagues around Europe - for a time anyway until a new group of clubs became the elites.

Does that mean The Great Wall, Mandarin and the Golden Sea are in? I think it's "Yellow sea", but joke all you want, that is the reason. Filthy rich Chinese taking over the club.

If it happens we might be in a position to win the top-flight title in 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26, now that would be something for the football historians

Call me a cynic, but interesting that the Infantino story regarding his direct input in softening the punishments for PSG and Man C regarding for massive breaches of FFP, should come out at the same time as some pie in the sky, barely thought through idea regarding a new super league. Smoke and mirrors here perhaps where the super league is the main story, when in fact it shouldn't be. Did "John" the whistleblower leak both stories? If so which side is he/she on?

Be a lot of clubs in trouble when the current PL sky money is turned off & their wage bills remain 100 odd million a year. I don't see how they could have relegated clubs. Where would they go to ? Back to their domestic leagues ?

I think if anything like this went ahead it would be in the format of a franchise.
Clubs would buy in, those who can afford get in, those who can no longer pay, get kicked out.
Personally I wouldn't give two shits about the "big clubs" leaving The EPL. The remaining teams surely would though as TV money would dry up pretty quick and there would be a genuine risk of teams finding themselves fending off fiancial ruin.

I think it is about 50/50 as to whether it would succeed.
It is using the NFL as a model. A closed shop top level franchise model. The problem is US and Europe have very different sporting cultures. The US has the college sports system and professional draft. The draft system there deliberately to give parity and produce a competitive league. While Europe has over a hundred years of football history all based on local rivalries.
If there were a European super league, even though flights are cheaper now, I cannot see large away supports travelling across the continent every week. I imagine it would be a 1 game a week league. There would be a TV audience for the European best-of-best in Asian and American markets but local interest would wain without national competitive rivals.
Look at Champions-league attendances (not just Man city), the games don't sell out across much of Europe until the knockout cup phase.
Also if there is not parity between the clubs (which the suggestion is with ownership there wouldn't be); then for how long would it be a competitive league? If it were not competitive then how long would interest sustain for?
Right now, how the organisation of the Champions league and the Europa cup is, is about as good as it gets. If you step back, forget the names and look at it, it is effectively a European league division 1 and 2. The format based on the NFL post season play off structure. The group games thrown in to open it a little and generate more TV games. Remember they tried 2 group stages in the mid-2000s and it got dropped because a lack of interest and too many fixtures. How does a club qualify for these post-season games? By coming in the top 2,3 or 4 of their respective conferences (premier league, Serie A, lal liga, etc). At the same time the clubs still keep their respective national league rivalries and history.
It is a big leap of faith to think outside interest will sustain a European league (without home/national participation) when I think it would lose local interest (as shown by champions league group fixture attendances and the dropping of that 2nd group stage). I'm not sure it would survive.

The elite clubs love having at as a bargaining chip to negotiate more money and power for themselves within the existing structure though. They will be delighted it's getting debated again.

Think a european super league is a certainty eventually, then after that probably a world league in time. Will maybe have 2 or 3 divisions. The big question would be whether or not thats a closed shop. I actually doubt it would be because if it is , there'll be a lot of pretty meaningless games in the bottom tier and those clubs would really struggle to survive. But its big business globally now and all the big clubs are owned by big global businessmen. It would be weird if it didn;t happen really. As for the rest, less money wouldn;t be a problem , so long as everyone is in the same boat. Players would have to adjust their wage expectations thats all. Theyre hardly likely to turn their back on the game and be a window cleaner instead, so if £1000 a week is what a footballer earns, then they'll still take it. Money through the gate would return as the major factor in success or not. So I don;t see it as being the death knell to smaller non-elite clubs that some see it as myself. Good reply. My thoughts are good riddance. Maybe we can restart our leagues with more clubs having a chance of winning. Less money, less costly players and maybe more British players getting into the starting line-ups. At present how do teams such as our compete? They don't is the answer. Ok, the money from Sky will be missed but the top clubs cream off most of it now anyway. Dont shoot the messenger it's only my opinion. UTT.

It's about time limits were imposed on salaries, transfer fees and the numbers of overseas players on the pitch at any given time. Please, please please can we have our game back. Most sport has been basterdised by Sky with the obscene amounts of money which it puts down. How many fans on the DATM web site have said they would like a return to the days when the sport belonged to the fans? Fans are secondary in this day of football.

From what I have read it is about them leaving the champions league and possibly their domestic cup competitions not their national leagues. So that would be 38 games in the PL and 32 games in the super league - assuming that they keep to the 16 teams in the SL.That will be a 70 game season. Nice! Let's hope that they don't have a super league cup as well to rake in even more spondulis.

From what I have read it is about them leaving the champions league and possibly their domestic cup competitions not their national leagues. The talk is they leave the local federations, uefa and FIFA. Almost by default, this means they would not be able to complete mintue playing in regular domestic leagues. Besides a team would not be able to play so many games if they did

They have been trying to guarantee champions league entry over recent years so they just set their own competition up. You know that these clubs will want their premier league, la Liga too... Lets see see what comes out..

Besides a team would not be able to play so many games if they did I don’t imagine any English club would leave the domestic league. Not one Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal fan would want it either. It would be/will be a European super league running alongside the domestic leagues instead of the champions league and uefa league, they would cease to exist. It’s shit, but they would still be in the premier league I’m afraid.

Nobody is going to pay for TV subscription to watch a tournament that has a chance of culminating in Warsaw playing Girona. The biggest danger not mentioned of course is that any restructuring of the English league structure would potentially open the door from Scotland, devaluing what’s left even more.
