Apologies for links to long reads however, the German sports magazine Der Speigels' investigative journalists have spent months pouring through leaked high level football data/documents and are now starting to drip feed their findings which make explosive and very interesting reading.
Creation of a super-league, pulling players out of their national teams, turning a blind eye to PSG and Manchester City; the revelations are real eye-openers, and if it comes to fruition, a monetary death knell to anyone outside of the elite as the rich clubs strive to discard the minnows and take the money and run...
And the FFP leeway that is given to PSG and Manchester City..
This is a series and they're going to release more and more of their findings over the coming weeks...

Think a european super league is a certainty eventually, then after that probably a world league in time. Will maybe have 2 or 3 divisions. The big question would be whether or not thats a closed shop. I actually doubt it would be because if it is , there'll be a lot of pretty meaningless games in the bottom tier and those clubs would really struggle to survive. But its big business globally now and all the big clubs are owned by big global businessmen. It would be weird if it didn;t happen really.
As for the rest, less money wouldn;t be a problem , so long as everyone is in the same boat. Players would have to adjust their wage expectations thats all. Theyre hardly likely to turn their back on the game and be a window cleaner instead, so if £1000 a week is what a footballer earns, then they'll still take it. Money through the gate would return as the major factor in success or not. So I don;t see it as being the death knell to smaller non-elite clubs that some see it as myself.

These are the founding members currently plotting. Further to that list above of the founding members, there are also the following 5 guests. The intial founders would have no relegation for 20 years:
"The project, the document states, is subject to the utmost secrecy. According to the draft, the date for the signature of the 16 club representatives under the "binding term sheet" is set for November 2018, but the specific day has been kept open.
The 11 clubs listed as "founders" of the European Super League -- the ones that would apparently not face relegation -- are Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Juventus Turin, FC Chelsea, FC Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, FC Liverpool, AC Milan -- and Bayern Munich. All seven clubs in the secret society are represented. The five "initial guests," according to the document, would be Atlético Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Olympique Marseille, Inter Milan and AS Roma."

These are the founding members currently plotting. Man City, PSG and Chelsea probably represent everything that is wrong with modern football.

The sooner they all f**k off the better, it would be a nice reset for the domestic league.

All based upon the assumption that there will be a global audience to maintain the tv money.
it may sell in the Far East but how many disenfranchised people will there be in the European domestic leagues?
If you have to pay to watch the remaining teams in the top flight domestic league which might include your own team how interested will you be in paying extra to watch the Breakaway league.?
The bubble burst has been forecast for a while. This could just be a step too far.

The sooner they all f**k off the better, it would be a nice reset for the domestic league. My sentiments exactly. Reset is the key word. A chance to give football back to the fans and the communities they serve and to make football about sport rather than money.

Interesting the South Americans don't feature. If you are Mr TV money you would want as many markets involved as possible?
Surely some entrepreneur would want to establish a far eastern team to get involved to soak up support in that area?

Be an interesting one. If UEFA decided to ban any players playing in the “elite league” returning after being discarded by their elite club. Players unless guaranteed long contracts might be reluctant to sign.
That said I suppose they could ply their trade in China or the US.
Sad state of affairs where the real fans get left behind.

They can do what the fuck they want.I won't be watching. Ever since being a small child I followed football, shoot magazine, football specials, hooliganism, declining crowds, lived it all. The only reason I have any interest in the game is HTFC.
cricket, I loved it, absolutely loved it, barely even registers now.

Some interesting topics should be exposed during the coming weeks via the Football Leaks revelations. Dirty deals behind closed doors concerning top officials from the international world of football and rich club bosses. We are already used to this kind of thing though with the antics from Michel Platini, Sepp Blatter etc and the ridiculous "rules and regulations" for financial fair play which seem easy enough to get around if you've got a decent legal team. As for the breakaway European Super League I wonder if the English fans will end up missing kick off times for away matches in exotic cities due to the new travel rules after Brexit. Hassled by pesky customs officers as they're trying to get to see their favourite millionaires kick a ball around for 90 minutes. No more long journeys on crap trains to Southampton or Newcastle though to drink brown ale and cold pies when you arrive. Instead a quick flight to Barcelona for a San Miguel and some tapas or a fast train to Paris for some Pernod and coq au vin after the match.

How come Leeds and sheff weds aren't in there? They are part of a dubious clan planning to set up a Yorkshire Super League after the county goes independent (inspired by Catalonia) after the UK disintegrates after Brexit.

Wouldn't UEFA be complicit in establishing this? If all this is proven true it will probably be more about them keeping this cloaked due to the ruckus that will ensue.

These are the founding members currently plotting. So Chelsea and Man City both get in even though neither of them have ever won their domestic league three times in a row?? What a load of shite.

Football thrives on rivalry. Lets go the whole hog too and kick them out of all Cup competitions. Also as another poster says, ban any players playing in the “elite league” returning after being discarded by their elite club.

Imagine being an “also ran” club in the new super league. Roma vs Arsenal on a Monday evening in January would not be a great attraction.
Plenty of clubs - Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Inter etc, with absolutely nothing to play for - no chance of winning it.
Bring it on.

As per the cricketers in the late 70’s who defected to Kerry Packer’s ‘World Series Cricket’.

I find it quite exciting a new dawn of 'big clubs' in England. As others have said, they can all piss off.

This would be a fantastic development for English football. The ludicrous amounts of money washing around our game would cease and football would go back to being about good chairmen, good managers and competitive football on a level playing field. I'd still watch a European Super League - just like I watch the Champions League - I love football - but the excitement and integrity of our domestic football would be back. Any number of clubs could win the top league - every game would be competitive.
Bring it on!
