A takeover, even though it may pump multi-millions into the club, would fill me with sadness.
The affiliation between local fans and a truly "Town" club may fracture, but this seems to be the way that things are now happening in English football. I think the new owners would have to be worth many billions for this to be a success and quite frankly, view losing £30 million on signing a worthless striker as a minor irritation. Don't forget that there are a number of clubs out there with very rich owners who have not been able to change the fortunes of their teams. Many want success and when this is not forthcoming, they do not have the passionate loyalty of a Dean Hoyle to stick with it.
We may be swapping the failure of getting relegated from the PL, to the failure of not reaching the Europa League; it's all relative. Compare two scenarios - the monotony of being a mid-table PL team whose only chance of winning something is the FA/League Cup, versus the chance to win promotion, or get to a play off final at Wembley.
Something will be lost... something that we will never get back. Saying that perhaps DH has suddenly realised that he can only take this club so far, even with superb spirit, organisation and trying to do things differently to put us on a level playing field. This isn't a level playing field and if the aim is to compete with clubs in the PL it will take a new owner with billions.

This is why it's a good thing to have thread titles that are not vague....

It fits his M.O. and he has been in London with his NBA team just now. Ah, now York Terrier 's LONDON reference makes sense: downatthemac.proboards.com/post/2466917I thought he was doing it in the This is England woman in the shoe shop "These boots are special. These are from London" way that us northerners sometimes do.

Plenty of folk seemingly sad at prospect of a takeover....could be amazing IMO!!! Loads of cash, investment, and taking this club to the next level. Bring it on!!!

But there is every chance it wouldn't turn out like that, and it's highly unlikely that any new owner would treat the fans with the same respect and transparency that Hoyle has.

It fits his M.O. and he has been in London with his NBA team just now. In what way does it fit? He owns 6 different sports franchises, 3 bought in the last 3 years, and none of them would be what we brits would be likely to call "big" but he has invested in teams with potential. He seems a good fit, has a reputation for a fan-centric approach that strikes a chord when you trhink of what we already do. Exmaple: "In 2009, a season ticket holder informed Leonsis of a homeless man, Scott Lovell, who spent his nights sleeping outside Verizon Center. Leonsis found Lovell a part-time job as a restaurant kitchen worker and provided him with a paid and furnished apartment, a prosthetic leg and Capitals season tickets for life. In return, Lovell vowed to remain clean and sober."

What's worth noting is that he bought his first team 20 years ago and still owns them - he has no record of short-termism like a Randy Lerner or whatever...

According to Wiki he changed the team colours & hiked the ticket prices massively. That doesn't sound like much of a philanthropist! He also shrunk the size, but not the price, of the beers in the stadium of one of his franchises - he's not all bad then!

Ellis Short It can also go tits up as well, people need to be careful what they wish for. I'm happy for Hoyle to keep running the club as he does.

I think the point is Deano will sell the club when he sees fit and not when the fans decide it's time for him to stay or go. Clearly he's been unwell and this may be that time.

Im familiar with Leonsis. He's seen as very hands on and loyal. Hard to imagine that he wouldn't be more interested in making a profit than dean but he has made substantial investments in his NBA and NHL teams. Hesitant to say that anyone is an improvement over dean but if dean feels he must sell then Leonsis is a more than worthy buyer due to his track record.

According to Wiki he changed the team colours & hiked the ticket prices massively. He changed the team colours back to a previous version and this proved popular with fans. Hiking ticket prices? We'll see. As for the shrinkflation with the beer, there will be none left after Brexit...

Irrespective of what people's opinions were of what was happening on the pitch we have gone from probably the most stable club in the football league to a club with massive uncertainty hanging over it. The reasons for that maybe totally understandable/unavoidable but the quicker we can return to a relatively stable position the better. This season maybe a lost cause (I'd love to see another football miracle but can't see it on the horizon) but planning for the future is now absolutely crucial. With season tickets available (the price should mean that many will renew anyway) the sooner we get clarity the better.

I agree with what you’re saying but others seem to think that we’ll be awash with money if a take over happens but that’s not necessarily true.

There is a couple of threads need merging or getting locked .This board is a bit messy at the moment .IMO. Lately whenever threads of note have been locked They subsequently are found to be true😲 If so I am sure the key would be found to unlock the thread

Plenty of folk seemingly sad at prospect of a takeover....could be amazing IMO!!! Loads of cash, investment, and taking this club to the next level. Bring it on!!! Nothing like a short term, myopic view at all. (A) we are not a prospective purchase for a billionaire foreign owner. We are not a known name or sleeping giant big city club. (B) who wants to be a foreign businessman's dick waving hobby anyway.
