Spot on and as I remember it. Dean laughed at some of the rumours about players we had supposedly been in for and said that Mbenza had been our number one target all along. Sounded like a done deal Call me Poirot, but I suspect there may be some kind of link between that standard of transfer ambition and us just being relegated in march ! If we have a choice, and I hope to hell we do, id be reluctant to blow another penny on him, having already blown the 2 or 3 million it cost to loan him. If we'd spent that 2 or 3 million on signing him permanently, then on his contribution so far it would still look like we'd chucked our money away. Hes looked like the sort of player Championship clubs release for free. The lad reminds me of Mustapha Carayol. Not good

I was late into the q&a DH held at Canalside before the Chelsea game on the opening day of the season. Almost as soon as I walked in DH said “Mbenza must be bought”. I made note of it on my phone. It makes sense. Mbenza would not have spoken like he did if there was a chance he was going back there Mbenza, Diakhaby and Grant would be a brilliant front three in the Championship regardless of what some experts on here think. I'd be surprised if Mbenza doesn't demand a move though, as playing in the Championship isn't great for his Belgium under 21/senior squad chances Are you serious !!!!! 13 million pound he has done jack crap!!!!!! All I could remember was him going up for that header against city where he completely missed the ball something that you would see jim Goodwin do Might as well kept Tom ince cheaper at least he scored

It's not being defeatist....it's acknowledging that we don't have anyone currently in charge of recruitment and if we repeat last summer's dealings we are in trouble. The coach has fallen out with senior players, the owner wants to sell and we can't score goals full stop! I know it's different back in the championship but if folks think the mounies, diakhaby's, sabiri's, flo's will take that league by storm then I beg to differ. The Wagner impact HAS to be repeated for us to have any chance. That special unity and bond between everyone appears to have vanished and it's not easy bringing it back, however much the parachute money will help. Spot on. The Championship is an unforgiving grind. Success comes to teams who have good/ very good players AND a strong team spirit/ unity as we did 2 years ago. Trying to manage with players who have just dropped a division and a likely plethora of new recruits will be very challenging - it’s what Wagner did very well in the summer of 2016 but all our transfer business then was done early. I think we’ll find it very tough in the Championship and am hoping we can pick up odd wins here and there for the first few months until we find our feet and begin to adjust. The number of teams who are relegated from the prem and return immediately is small.

I find it hard to believe someone as prudent as Dean Hoyle would leave us without the option to decide whether we buy or not.
He knew as well as we all did that there's always been a high probability that we would be relegated.

And probably thought that if we did go down that we would be able to at least make our money back on him. He didn't anticipate Wagner hardly playing him

Thought he played well when he came on. Are you being serious? Put one half decent ball in.......the rest of the time he ambled about like mounie unless the ball was delivered straight to him and he got rinsed several times not tracking runners. Hes not a footballer, hes just a lad that can run fast - get shut now.

Hes not a footballer, hes just a lad that can run fast - get shut now. He was poor but to say that was a half decent ball is ridiculous We go all season watching numerous players who can't cross a ball and finally we have one capable of dropping it on a plate for the strikers and it's only "half decent". And while he was poor on the whole, his pace had us far higher up the pitch second half and also able to counter unlike the first half where we had Mooy, Lowe and Pritchard as outballs who are about as fast as a 40 year old Luke Beckett

A winter/olaff balls up sounds more likely

It was on a plate perfect. It's his biggest asset pace aside, the lads got a great whip on him. To say that was half decent is ludicrous.

He put in 1 good cross yesterday, 1 diabolical and controlled it 10 yards....But he’s at least direct
If we have to sign him though, wow. Having signing Lossl for 1 year it would not surprise me. Stuck with Diakhaby and Mbenza. Jeez.
Where is the new Sporting Director
We succeeded under Wagner after he arrived in November and was working with a Sporting Director day 1
We had the vast majority of signings in early
7 months to replace Moss Rebbe appointed with just 2 months before start season Ridiculous decisions in July Underinvestment Nonsense decisions January completely contradicting the owners NYE statement Nearly 3 months since Rebbe left no replacement

He wasnt great technically yesterday-but showed how desire and athleticism can positively impact a game Yesterday? He's never been great technically whether it be yesterday or any other day. I'm loathe to criticise players as he is probably doing his best and maybe in France he might be a good player but I do wonder how he ever made it pro. The only way I would sign him is if he was free and the coaches really spent some time on him one to one making him a better player.

What I will say for him though is he does have a decent cross on him, he put the cross in for the Mounie headed goal against Burnley at home.

Certainly more exciting than Lowe, Mooy and Grant If you look at his You Tube highlights he looks impressive but all them highlights show him counter attacking, maybe he would be better in a counter attacking style team.

Certainly more exciting than Lowe, Mooy and Grant It may have tonnes of pace, but it also badly lacks guile, composure, ability to operate in confined spaces, etc. Other than when chasing a game, I wouldn't be playing all three of those.

His crossing albeit minimal has generally been superb however his positional play and reading of the game is unbelievably bad, generally sauntering about nowhere near the play seemingly unaware of what’s going on or might go on and unless there is acres of space in front of him to run at he doesn’t seem to have much level of ball control. The main benefit of a front 3 of mbenza, grant and diakaby is due to the raw pace of them as a 3 if utilised correctly it will pin the full backs to sit deeper rather than support an attack which should help. Excellent crosser and don’t suppose we can judge till we’ve seen him have a proper run of starts (say 10 at least) but at min I’m not sold particularly due to the supposed cost

We got promoted with Kachunga, VLP, Bunn and Scannell playing out wide. Not sure there was much guile, composure or ability to operate in tight spaces amongst those 4

Maybe Diakhaby and Mbenza might be more effective in a 4-4-2 formation, but both have the ball control of a bag of cement, so whether that would hold up,I don't know.
