Does anyone know the situation with him?
I find it hard to believe that Montpellier would loan him out for a season for £2 million when he's in the final year of his contract. They could have easily got more than that for him selling him permanently after the season he had even with only 12 months on his contract. £5 million easily
Is he actually out of contract?
His comments about the manager were those of a player that isn't going back to the club. Was that because he is out of contract or was the deal a loan with a mandatory purchase this summer?
Would be good if someone at the club actually came out and said what the deal is with him

I think I have found where this idea of obligation to buy has come from. It looks a translation mistake from a french article. See this rehash copy www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2018/official-issac-mbenza-joins-huddersfield-on-loan-from-montpellier/" has signed on a season-loan deal, with the Terriers having the option to make the move a permanent transfer at the end of the season. Local sources believe it is a €2.5m loan fee with an obligation to buy worth €12.5m. " It is an option to buy (which we have the choice of... to buy or not to buy), the obligation is the price. If we did decide to buy we would be obliged/obligated to pay E12.5M

Posted the question on their forum and the only response so far:
"I think it's a financial trick to avoid paying too much taxes the first year. For us, he's sold, not our player anymore"

Said this before on other threads, but since the question is being asked yet again... I'm pretty certain that Dean Hoyle said - and here I paraphrase - at a Q&A, "Ignore what you read in the press; he's our player. The loan deal was to get it over the line at the closing of the window. We have agreed to purchase him at the end of the season and the loan was based on that happening." Now, I'm almost 100% sure that's what I heard or read, can't remember now, but if it is the case then he'd bloody well better come good!

Mbenza would not have spoken like he did if there was a chance he was going back there Mbenza, Diakhaby and Grant would be a brilliant front three in the Championship regardless of what some experts on here think. I'd be surprised if Mbenza doesn't demand a move though, as playing in the Championship isn't great for his Belgium under 21/senior squad chances

It’s quite amazing that we are not told anything. Given the amazing atmosphere created by the fans this past few years I’m very disappointed that the club chooses not to communicate. Maybe it’s a ploy to sell more programs on Saturday so we can obtain some feedback?

DH also said we were never after Limbombe, which sources indicate wasn't strictly true.
Mbenza would have to agree a contract, a 40% drop in what he was anticipating whilst playing in the second tier may not exactly butter his parsnips.
A front 6 pool of Mounie, Grant, Pritchard, Diakhaby, Mbenza & Sabiri would do for me in the Championship!

You may well be right, but if so it will be because we have chosen to sell them and we will have a good amount of cash to fund suitable replacements.
Whatever happens, we have never gone into a season in the second tier with the resources and squad ability which we will do next season. I'm not sure why everyone is so defeatist about it.

It's not being defeatist....it's acknowledging that we don't have anyone currently in charge of recruitment and if we repeat last summer's dealings we are in trouble. The coach has fallen out with senior players, the owner wants to sell and we can't score goals full stop! I know it's different back in the championship but if folks think the mounies, diakhaby's, sabiri's, flo's will take that league by storm then I beg to differ. The Wagner impact HAS to be repeated for us to have any chance. That special unity and bond between everyone appears to have vanished and it's not easy bringing it back, however much the parachute money will help.

Sounded like a done deal Call me Poirot, but I suspect there may be some kind of link between that standard of transfer ambition and us just being relegated in march ! If we have a choice, and I hope to hell we do, id be reluctant to blow another penny on him, having already blown the 2 or 3 million it cost to loan him. If we'd spent that 2 or 3 million on signing him permanently, then on his contribution so far it would still look like we'd chucked our money away. Hes looked like the sort of player Championship clubs release for free.

The rumours of the manager upsetting people and the lack of communication to the fans from the club is very worrying. It's the end of the cycle. The team is disintegrating. I'm glad there isn't a great spirit in the squad seeing as we've just been relegated in March! Pre-season will see the shoots of recovery. A new spirit, a new belief. Old and new players forming something fresh. The Wagner era is over. We either cling to the failed coat-tails and bemoan it's not as good as it was 3 years ago or we draw a line and build something new. The last time the board said anything they promised we wouldn't sleepwalk into promotion. Now, that was either bollocks or the fans misunderstood the intent and have spent 3 months ridiculing them for it. Whatever your opinion, it doesn't really encourage them to provide a running commentary on what they are up to.

We need to find the best likely week in week out goalscorer that our budget allows, it's too much pressure on Grant alone and I don't see Mounie turning into a 20 goals a season man just because he's dropped a division. I was tentatively suggesting we could do with another striker last summer but thought it unlikely with the 'one up top' style we'd been getting into. If we haven't learned from 3 seasons of poor goal tallies (yes I know we got promoted in one of them)we are in for a tough time again.

Mbenza got 8 goals 2017-18 from a wide position in Ligue 1 which is a higher standard than the Championship. I agree he looked a bit comical in some of his early games but most recently before his injury he actually looked like a good player. His pace killed the United full backs at times on boxing day Some forget that you don't need to be the greatest technical player to thrive in the Championship. Traore is a bit of a clown when it comes to passing, crossing and shooting but his pace was too much for championship defences and got him a 20 million pound move Grant, Diakhaby and Mbenza would probably be the quickest front three the Championship has ever seen. It's hard enough to defend against one pacey player, never mind 3. We'll be up against the likes of Richard Keogh, not Van Dijk This is where Stoke went wrong. They've hardly got a pacey attakcing player in their whole squad. You could maybe argue Afobe is but he's hardly Grant level of quick. It makes them too predictable and easy to defend against
