Boothy for the amount of goals and being such a great servant. Stewart for his technical ability, Shearer top goalscorer in what were effectively shit teams. I always had a soft spot for Iwan Roberts too, the much maligned Longpockets pushed the boat out to sign him at over 200k when we were 3rd division, granted it was only with the Maskell money. Maskell was a good goalscorer although he never seemed to endear himself to the fans. Shearer was class for us, when were really crap you could count on him to score.

My favourite not mentioned yet --- Tony Leighton --- you'll have to look in the record books or (like me) be pretty long in the tooth.... Second: Frank - probably the most frustrating and skilful player I have seen in our colours Third: Jordan - 40 goals in a season!!! Fourth: Marcus Fifth: Boothy Great question - which I probably answered with a different set of names the last time it was raised!! UTT

How many did he score in the terrible 87/88 season? A lot more than he probably should have done.

Tony Leighton was a brilliant player, as was Allan Gulliver, despite which my vote goes to Big Frank, a gem of a player - UTT.

I have loved many but Booth And Stewart are on a levels of their own. If I had to chose one it would be Boothy.

Some great mentions in this thread. Some people have been blessed to have seen so many good strikers for town. I guess different players stand out for different reasons. The rocket Ronnie chant was the first song I remember as a kid so I always have fond memories of watching him with my Dad. Since then I've enjoyed watching, Stewart, Booth, Rhodes, Novak(for his workrate) and Abbot. I think Grant will show just how special he is this year. Thanks again UTT

Marcus Stewart. A special talent. There have been other heroes to wear the blue & white, but that lad was not only bloody magical, but consistently so.
I haven't found any videos of him on Youtube during his time at HTFC that do him justice. There are a few of his time at Ipswich that give some idea of just how good a footballer he was that are worth a watch.

1 Andy booth 2 Andy booth 3 Andy booth Number 4 is Andy booth.
Anyway you get the idea. I even liked boothy mark II. There was no better striker at doing the falling to knees " ah ref I've been pushed in the back" trick than Andy booth II.

Delroy when he was breaking through into the team and we had a shit strike partnership, remember the whole of the Kilner chanting "Delroy, Delroy" then a huge cheer when he got called to come on.

Toss up between Jon Newby and Martin Smith for me Bloody hell. That's harsh on Martin Smith, being lumped in the same category as Newby. I remember Smith being decent. I recall him being injury prone, but his main crime was not being Marcus Stewart!

We have been blessed with so many great strikers , my favourites Ian Robins ,possibly because he came on the scene when I first started watching Town and really was class in the lower divisions.
I always really liked Maskell , possibly not the best all round striker but could that guy finish, especially on a one on one with the keeper , he would always round the keeper, never one for a clever dink over the top.
More recently I did like when we were playing Beckford and Vaughan together, what a handful they were, and I see Grant as being similar in some ways to Vaughan, and believe he is going to be hugely popular.

There was no better striker at doing the falling to knees " ah ref I've been pushed in the back" trick than Andy booth II. I was scrolling through the thread thinking I’ll just check if someone’s posted about a team of Andy Booth’s. I’ve extremely fond memories of Marcus Stewart’s guile (I was gutted when we sold him) and Jordan Rhodes’ ruthlessness in front of goal (I was at Hillsborough that night he scored 4) but it has to be Boothy for what he did for the club over two spells that pips it for me. We reached four play-offs (winning two) during his two spells, the partnership with Ronnie Jepson when he blossomed (strike partnerships - remember them?), the Leyton Orient game when he signed off by slotting in his 150th goal for the club in his last appearance (what a day that was). Will we ever see another player reach 150 goals for the club, especially a local player? Then to top it off he still represents the club as an Ambassador.

Craig Maskell is a funny one. As a kid I really liked him, mainly because whenever we got a free-kick on the edge of the area it was as good as a penalty with him taking it. He could finish too. However, when he left and signed for Reading I remember my father being absolutely horrified when he made claims in the press that he had ‘joined a bigger club’. At the time Reading we’re getting gates of 3-4k at Elm Park, it was so obvious they had offered him a ‘fatter contract’. He did move on to Swindon where he did quite well as I recall. He played for Southampton in the top flight . As good a finisher as we've had . Maybe lacked the yard of pace to make him top top class He played for Southampton twice, we got him from Southampton and he later played again for them.
