I strongly suspect that your audio problems are probably user error as well. No mate. Don’t try to deflect and misdirect. You are not the victim. It was a shitty post. You’re just too proud and defensive to accept it. Maybe pal you should take your advice on narrow mindedness and read the post from amcterrier in which he acknowledges the audio issues (obviously NOT my user error, as you condescendingly wrote) and accepts pretty much every point I have made and gives the reasoning for why its how it is it, in a very even mannered and eloquent fashion?? It’s not me setting the tone and agenda here. What I will acknowledge on rereading it, is that my tone was perhaps overly combative for no real reason, and to amcterrier I apologise for that. Thankfully he seems to have a thick enough skin to take my criticism in his stride, just as he has taken the plaudits gracefully. So just to repeat...poor audio makes it difficult to listen, it’s a bit long for me and I’d much prefer a 10-15 minute all killer no filler version, but I’ll give it a go in earphones where the audio balance issues may be less distracting, and as I said, there seems to be some reasonably interesting stuff in there. Not really sure why that’s so difficult to grasp by anyone other than the actual person it was aimed at 🤷♂️ 😘

‘Reasonably interesting’. Just because you have the attention of a small child who could only listen for 10-15 minutes doesn’t mean there would be any benefit to cutting it down to random sentences chopped straight out of context.
Your mild praise whilst doubling down on your criticism is wonderfully passive aggressive and genuinely entertaining. Thanks.

Have to agree on the sound quality - normaly speakers and I struggled to hear as all people on the podcast speak with low deep voices. Headphones on and volume up to 100 and its a good listen.....
We have been blessed to have Dean - true blue and white all the way through...the new chairman ha a big pair of boots to fill

A Good Listen. Dean did a great job as owner and now hopefully he can be a true supporter without having all the stresses of owning the club to worry about.

splendid listen was that - good work everyone who was involved. it was a nice little voyage through a decade of fandom with inside goss. i'll do truncated version of Moby Dick for the posters that found it too long: Capt Ahab is a reet nutter and a whale stalker and goes after one, they all die but Ishmael. The end

My other observation is that everything that was achieved was welcomed as being beyond what was expected. The achievement was indeed outstanding but even with the passion and dedication it was an upper limit of what was possible.
I could never decry what DH did for the club but we must not allow a culture to develop that an alignment of stars is our only way of achieving again.
We will look back at the DH era with great warmth and affection but we also need to move forward. I hope the PH era will look to build and set a higher bar. In truth 2 years in the Premier League should really be as good opportunity as we will get.
Thanks for everything Dean, over to you Phil...what can you achieve?

Hoyle’s radio shows were always brilliant to listen to. If I’m honest I haven’t got over his leaving. I had other aspirations for Town under Hoyle but it wasn’t to be. I found him an inspiring force and a local businessman I looked up to. I’m not inspired by personal injury lawyers. But you do find massive inspiration from greeting card floggers?

Lots of interesting feedback that we will take on board. We know some of the audio wasn’t great but unfortunately that can’t be amended afterwards. Regarding editing.....we decided between us to put this one out totally unedited so everyone got the chance to hear all the stories in full just like we did when recording. Dean was an absolute pleasure to speak to and was as candid as ever. We actually spent 4 hours in his company which was an honour for us after being a podcast for less than a year. We will continue to put content out this season on a weekly basis and we have some more guests lined up. Phil Hodgkinson coming soon. We feel very honoured that the club are so engaging with us and long May that continue. As always, things like podcasts will divide opinion but, other than the sound for a few people, AND HE TAKES THAT CHANCE has gone down really well and we enjoy doing it. It’s sometimes hard to fit in around busy lives doing other things but it’s something we thoroughly enjoy doing and will continue to do so as long as it’s enjoyable. Thankyou to everyone for your opinions, it’s interesting to see the range. For those of you who have just found is and want to listen to previous episodes we can be found on YouTube, Spotify, ITunes, SoundCloud, Castbox and a couple more too I think. Cheers Neil Super job and if the guest is interesting enough the longer the better as far as I'm concerned! I'm sure lots of us spend a lot of time commuting and being able to listen to this and previous ones was an absolute pleasure. For me the issue with audio was Dean was quieter than the rest and the volume overall was low. Listened on max volume with windows shut and AC off and I could just about hear! Really looking forward to the next one, great job! Sent from my SM-G920F using proboards

Great job guys - I think there needs to be a part 2 to this podcast.....
So many more stories to come out I'm sure.
On the audio issues - I found some of the earlier podcasts really quiet but the team seemed to sort it out - using iTunes it's perfect now.
I wonder if the sound issues are coming from other sources like soundcloud etc ?

He held business seminars when he first took over at Town, which were superb. His story is brilliant. He created his business from nothing. He took on a market that private equity et al said was sewn up. He took on that oligopoly of Clintons, birthdays etc and he beat them. Hoyle’s business path was really fascinating. When Card Factory began to really affect market share Clinton’s and Birthdays forced the huge Chinese suppliers to stop supplying to Card Factory or they’d cancel all their orders..or words to this effect. Instead of investing in more shops or other expansion in the previous year or two, Dean had been secretly building his own factory in China that could out produce the existing supplier anyway. So when they came with the awkward conversation he said “don’t worry I’m off anyway!” Very astute businessman. Exit plan was interesting if you're new to that kind of business negotiations. Sold at right time for £350M. The emotions around it etc. Really excellent speaker and motivator. He was very happy to chat with you and very quick. What he then built with Wagner was legendary. Hoyle at his Card Factory best after a few false starts.i liked his ethical approach to his colleagues and his leadership style. Then the school breakfasts programme and the whole re-energising of the town. Big personal hero of mine. Personal injury lawyers, well aside from my ethical objections to their existence, they don’t create anything do they? They make money out of others’ ‘misfortune’. A legal business os not a business in the true sense imo.

What I always find with Dean is he always makes things sound so easy, and his choices so obvious. Obviously they aren't, but he seems to be able to process complicated decisions in the most simplistic form - possibly part of the reason he has been so successful.

A legal business os not a business in the true sense imo. Or...they seek justice and compensation for those who otherwise would have no avenue to turn following injury or industrial illness. You could argue they do a vital role in perusing negligence and culpability whilst ensuring compliance and H&S are given due credence. You’re seeing business simply as manufacturing and the role of it as purely wealth creation. All a bit condescending imo.

They’ll be warriors for whatever you want if you settle your monthly account. “perusing negligence and culpability whilst ensuring compliance and H&S are given due credence.” Assuming you meant pursuing then no I don’t agree. It’s businesses themselves and sometimes regulators/local authorities etc who do that not the legal firms who come in and have a legal battle with one of the other stake holders on behalf of the client etc. Do you mean that firms ensure greater compliance with H&S because they fear being sued if they don’t comply as accurately? Well maybe that is true but is that a good thing? Businesses can and do ensure compliance in a multitude of daily. Regulation and standardisation are good things..but can be achieved without an over zealous legal wing imo. Also I said I didn’t find it someone inspiring compared to Hoyle for whom I’ve explained why I found him inspiring.

I can’t say I was knowledgeable of the business model of Card Factory at all and that is all really interesting, I’ll be sure to do my own reading. Despite your take on the personal injury industry I fail to see how you can’t consider Pure Legal LTD as a business and I think they certainly hold a legitimate place in the legal world. He hasn’t earned his fortune by nefarious means at all (eg. Abramovich) and Hoyle has said himself “cut the bloke in half and he bleeds blue and white”. That’s all that matters to me.

You may be correct, I have no strong views either way really - just bored of PH being beaten with every available stick. The zeitgeist has moved from ‘pauper Phil’ to ‘he’s got brass but made it unethically whilst contributing nothing’. No need for comparison or judgement. Both are self made men following a dream whilst putting plenty back into the local community. Can’t we simply applaud that?

Wow just wow . Listened In two parts . The second half was so emotional. He met PH in the family bereavement room. Fuck me. I listened on my Bluetooth speakers and never thought sound an issue at all. 3 hours and just scratch the surface. Please try and get Dean again to talk so open and honestly. Fantastic.thanks to all concerned.

In fact I doubt you'd be able to create a company like Card Factory without the help of a legal services company. So yes they do help produce something.

Partway through the podcast, really enjoying it, great work and massive kudos to the lads involved. I wonder if Deano has considered writing a book on his time in charge of the club?
