Remember when we went up two years ago? We thought there was no way we could afford a player like Mooy. We thought we might pay up to about £5m for a player or two. We went on to spend tens of millions of pounds because we could afford it. Now we can’t but folk think we have set a precedent we should continue to live to. Within 2 years the unexpected has become the default in some eyes. Until some people reset their expectations they will be very angry and upset for a long, long time.

seems fishy to me as well!!.got asset stripping written all over it that includes our previous chairman as well You’re one of those brighthouse shoppers aren’t you? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 You can tell which people on here pay the minimum payment on a maxed out credit card using another credit card the way in which money, reality, overheads and running of businesses/transfers are flippantly discussed. “We got £100m so should have spent £100m on transfers and if not then it’s a disgrace” it’s just a huge version of the Rhodes money debacle which many also didn’t grasp.

Nobody thought we would only spend £5M on Mooy just like most don't expect to spend £20M on Maupy this summer. But most felt we could afford more than £200K for a player in the conference. Most though we could bring in a couple of first team players to strengthen our weaknesses and where we have lost key players. Just like we struggled last january to bring players in, we will struggle again next January to bring players in or sell them if we are at the wrong end of the table. These are not just the mistakes of last summer they are mistakes from 47 years ago again. Also while we are at it, thought we weren't spending in Jan 2019 to have a big budget for the summer. Every transfer window there are some apologists for the club that kick the can down the road to the next window and mock anybody who notices that the can is constantly being kicked down the road and no investment is being made. Oystons anyone?

Strange thread title... why ask Phil. He's only just got here. HE didn't spend it on players, their wages, stadium upgrades, training upgrades or promotion and staying up bonuses. Give him a break!
Dean is probably the better person to ask and you doom merchants would probably be more inclined to believe his explanation ..... but he's not in control anymore so you can't have him as the scapegoat.
So Phil gets the stick instead??!! Odd!

Maybe Phil is keeping his powder dry after all he didn’t appoint Jan.Lets just say he has got £20m burning a hole in his pocket why would he give it to someone he hasn’t appointed and might not rate ( I’ve no idea whether he does or doesn’t) He’s already got a squad valued at around the £100m mark,if we’re to believe some of the stories banded about, and he’s managed 5 points from a possible 48.Yes most of that was in the PL but also against teams who we should have been able to at least match and maybe grab a point or two let alone a win.Honestly if it was me in Phil’s shoes I’d be hanging back a bit but also reminding him that a massive improvement is expected in performance and especially results. To give a manager with a record as bad as his any sort of decent money is suicide imo,the nucleus of the squad is there with plenty of championship experience Jan imo will focus on developing youth players which apparently he is very good at,and tbf he’s introduced a few already who have looked ok.

Agree. Those players definitely have the ability to play well. I've seen it with my own eyes. The problem seems to be getting them to produce that ability. That must be down to management.

To be fair the youth players have looked decent - O'Brien being the pick of the bunch and Edmonds- Green might have a chance. He has also signed young players in Koroma and Reece Brown - it's just a shame he doesn't think any of them are actually good enough (yet) to play at this level and we are still relying on players of the ilk of Quaner! Don't get me wrong - I will always be grateful for his contribution in the second leg of the Play Off Semi Final but I really did think we had seen the last of him when he went on loan to Ipswich - surely we have better options or plans for better options in the very near future. Its almost like Wagner signing our two great wide players and then never playing them - though to be honest once Wagner actually saw them play live I can understand why. I was just disappointed and a little surprised that more of our new signings didn't even make the squad on Monday.

But we didn't win and there is a reason for that. To put it down to almost chance is what Jan does and I fear Phil is doing. Players worked hard but there was no system or organisation and they were knackered before the end of the game. Then as if to show us how bad our summer recruitment was you see Kachunga and Quaner at the side of the pitch ready to come on to make that change that is going to win us the game. They weren't good enough last time we were at this level, they are only still here because their contract hasn't expired and nobody wants them. You think our top scorer (who wasn't playing as our main striker) from the promotion season wasn't good enough? OK Not as a winger no. He scored the sort of opportunity he missed monday regularly. He didnt have the pace or trickery to be a winger and relied on TS to put the crosses in and as Flo showed us crossing isnt really his thing yet.

Is the club supposed to say it’s rolling in cash, set massive expectations and inflate any fees / wages we have to pay? No, but are you suggesting we pretend we haven't any money until 1 day it is true and the crowds and impetus has gone to get a player on the cheap? We need to make signings that will excite the crowd and that will be signings that improve the performances. Most aren't expecting promotion but certainly to be at that end of the table playing exciting football again. I don't think Phil or Jan are going to get the time they think they have I’m not saying everything is great either but give the club some time to get themselves back together at this level before turning on them. They have had 6months. Many said give it Hudson until summer or let Wagner see the season out. Jan has had 6 months and a full preseason and nothing has changed, there is no system that these players can play.
At this level people now expect to win and so feel the need to boo at a loss, there were some who did it last season but clearly more feel that way in the championship. That performance for me wasn’t great but it wasn’t in boo them off the pitch land. If we’d won then none of this hysteria would be going on (we’d have been on our way to promotion no doubt) and despite the overall performance one horrible mistake and one horrible shot was the difference between lose and win. I’m not sure chasing the ball around in lost causes in the prem is good prep for anything other than character building. We’ve hardly had a kick for 2 seasons, give them a bit of time to realise what the ball is again. Kachunga came on and nearly got us a point. Maybe if we’d signed someone else they would have scored it. Maybe they wouldn’t even have been in that position. How is saying one chance could have changed it any different from saying a signing would? Would a new exciting player also have sprinted back into it goal line in the realisation a defender was going to cock up and saved that goal? An exciting signing will only please half the crowd until the next defeat, I personally don’t see chucking money at players as necessarily being what we need at this time. I do expect an improvement on the field though in the fairly short term. It’s also a bit harsh to say players that were part of a squad that did the almost unthinkable now weren’t actually good enough at the time and I seem to remember one those two having a very memorable sub appearance at this level. These players are more than capable of exciting us if we can get some confidence back into them and that’s our job as well as the management.

I hope not but fear that Dean Hoyles tenure may well be tainted with who he has sold the club to.
Surely there were other more abitious potential suitors than PH appears to be demonstrating.i get the stability bit - but if stability is seen as lower 2nd division then the last 3 years will have been a massive opportunity lost.
the lack of transparency in the whole deal leaves lots of unanswered questions. Like how much is PH paying ? how is the payment structured? Are those funds being generated internally or externally ? Have Deans loans been repaid? Where does canalside fit into this - who owns that - who will be getting the rent? Does Phil have an agreement to buy the remaining 25% If so when/how much? What happens if either Phil or Dean want to sell their remaining stake at anytime in the near future? ? The timing of the deal means many of these questions will not be answered until the 2019/20 accounts are published - at best 18-20 months away.
When there is a lack of info/clarity then people fill the gaps with all sort of guesswork/theories - however off the wall these theories can be. Sometimes they gain momentum in the absence of any alternative or denial with the actual information
For a club that has been relatively open about its finances for years, to have the main deal clouded in mystery will inevitably lead to some crackpot theories and accusations...
finally
i still dont get how the 75/25 split works.. particulalry if Phil wanted to invest in the team?
Phil - 'i have scraped 75 quid together i just need you to stick your £25 in..' Dean 'fuck off i have spent enough over the years'
How does that scenario play out ?

The squad might be worth £100m but when Championship sides are commanding £20m fees for their better players it means that each player we sell becomes more difficult to replace.

The Oystons took the premier league money and didn't invest, something that appears to be happening here. People like you did advocate in January that we don't spend any money but save it to have a better transfer kitty in Summer. Just imagine if we had blown the summer budget in January on painting the goal posts or something. Obviously this transfer window is tricky, lets look again in January, then it will be tricky because we are bottom half and can't shift our players on, maybe 4 transfer windows, remember who we are.

Nobody thought that 5 years ago either - but that’s reality Don’t blow it all but reinvest in the team We don’t have Wagner - judge Siewert vs Powell, Robins and Grayson. Reality is with this approach to transfers Siewert will do well to get us anywhere near mid table

As a minority shareholder Dean has little influence, but he does have access and a voice that will be listened too. I think his 25% share is to do with cashflow and insurance that phil and his team do the right thing. The investment is simple, like dean did a loan that can be repaid. We are all minority shareholders because of our pensions etc , it doesn't change there investment strategies.

What about Wolves away who finished even higher than 'even Everton'. Footballs a funny old game Greavsie.

The only folk trousering money are the players and the agents. Every last bastard penny that's floating about above normal costs. PH has implied that, guess he can't say much more. Must be fucking dire to see folk like Billing's agent, or the lad himself making a fortune out of being a cock. Especially for folk that have made everything they have to spunk on a football team through hard graft. Wish they could be absolutely honest about the money involved and how much is pissing out of the game.

Don’t want to damage the Dean Hoyle Saint status but his track record on appointments isn’t great. So why is his selection of the new chair expected to be different?
if the stars haven’t aligned then why Phil?
obviously companies house shows the charges DH has applied and can’t question his investment over the years but he is a businessman and understandably will want to protect his and his families interests. Even more so given the morality check he will have had with his illness.
PH business is about being creative around funding and using others money. The numbers don’t stack unless the last 12 months have been reckless, which, would be inconsistent with previous management of the club.
lets see about future ownership of the stadium canal etc.
All this is easily resolved with some transparency and sure DH doesn’t want his reputation and legacy tarnishing.
Time for people to front up.

Time for people to front up. Unintentional. It’s a real shame Dean couldn’t continue as continuity was required. But he has done his time and hope he still has a steadying influence and guiding hand. Freudian slip?
