Whether it be Bury or Bolton you have to feel for the fans, they aren't responsible for what happens when people make decisions that impact their football club.
I hope both clubs survive for the fans, and I have absolutely NO time for Bolton at all. All fans deserve their club to at least survive.

The time has come for the EFL to set budgets for clubs. No losses - a break even budget. Clubs send in their proposed budget for the forthcoming season. The EFL examines it and rejects or passes it. Signings can only go ahead within the context of that budget. Nanny state (ish)I know, but in the end that is all that will work.

It's a shame that it appears to be happening. Bury were the very first team I went to watch play live. My mate and I used to play footy for Cubs on a Saturday morning, then his Dad would take us to the Bury match at Gigg Lane in the afternoon....Really not sure why he took us to Bury as I don't think he was from there. But I was only about 8 or 9 year's old, so didn't mind at all. We used to go and sit on the wall pitch side and I remember Leighton James was the winger.....All I wanted to do was run and the pitch and join in

I think there is a straightforward answer to stop this happening again but its probably a bit too North Korean to ever be implemented. Simply force the owner of any club to lodge the funds with the FL or PL to cover the cost of their spending, so if say Rochdale buy Neymar from PSG (not likely I know but it emphasises the point) for £100M on a 3 year contract at £200k a week they have to lodge 2/3 of the transfer fee (on the basis they pay 1/3 a year) plus the £31.2M for his wages. If they sell him after a year they get the rest back, they also earn interest on their money. Obviously paying upfront will be difficult but it should heip to reduce wages across the board, if clubs get a wealthy backer they can go as mad as they want, no FFP to fiddle, but if after a time the owner gets bored or cold feet he doesn't leave the club financially crippled. Makes sense to me anyway.

Makes sense to me anyway. Ideas like yours and salary capping work well in closed shop leagues like Aussie Rules, SuperLeague, the NFL, NHL etc., but the worldwide nature of Association Football makes it nigh on impossible to convince club owners to try something like this because there's always a league in a nearby country full of clubs prepared to gamble and pay higher wages under a lesser regulated system. FFP is hopefully making inroads to end the overspending, but looks like it's come too late for Bury and Bolton. Make no mistake, though, this is not the end of professional football in either of these traditional Lancashire towns. Phoenix clubs will be started and the most hardcore of fans will pull together and start afresh much further down the football pyramid. To a certain extent, you reap what you sow, and that's the way it has to be.

Everyone knows the budgets as they are published as well.

Dan Roan hits the nail on the head... I don't think so, the big clubs aren't arsed about anything other than themselves. If the FA try to change things the big clubs will take legal action and form their own league.

Dan Roan hits the nail on the head... I think the backdrop for that interview sums it up nicely. Imagine a high profile media co. covering a story outside Old Trafford or the Etihad. The contrast is stark on so many levels. However, I'm not sure I agree with this being a watershed moment (sadly). For all the wrong reasons that Bury & Bolton are getting some of the headlines just now, imagine how that would be shadowed if Paul Pogba announced he was off to Inter Milan for £120m...

And how distasteful is this! SSN using a deadline countdown clock for the 5pm cut-off for Bury and Bolton.
It’s not transfer deadline day, this is serious and disastrous for these two historic clubs and Jim White is treating it as a trivial headline news scandal. Headline it is, but deserves gravitas reporting not sensationalisation.

Make no mistake, Bury have been fucked over by the rogue Man Utd fans who set up FC United and the (unofficial) effort to combat that by the 'Class of '92' bankrolling Salford City.
Greater Manchester football has eaten it's own alive in a desperate attempt to remain top dog.

And to cap it off, the biggest twat on SSN, Jim White, fronts the segment.

[/quote] Didn't Murdoch's Sun once have a countdown to the 16th birthday of a female starlet? Charlotte Church or Emma Watson? I'm not sure. With clear, unsubtle, paedophillic implications? Nothhing is lower than those snakes bellies.

Have they or not? Bury apparently have 3 bids on the table. In all honesty it’s a farce. Bolton starting their season, Bury not. Deadlines galore. A deadline is just that. I’m not for wanting them to go under, but the EFL yet again look like a set of pillocks.
