Ok, we know we’re in the shit. We know what we all think has gone wrong. What is your 5 step plan for putting it right? What would you do if you were at the wheel?
1. Appoint a manager trusted at this level to steady the ship. At the moment I doubt Hughton would come, so I’d be happy with someone like Gary Rowett. Phil Parkinson has been strongly rumoured and, despite the Empty Chair, we could do worse. 2. Clear out the back room. I said this last night ion Radio Leeds’ phone in. I have nothing against Hudson and the coaching staff but they are part of a losing culture at the moment. They are also part of the furniture. Our players rock up and see Hudson, Whitehead etc. and they’re the same faces they’ve seen for years. We need a clean slate, which means sadly it’s time for them to go. Let’s get someone in who will bring their own staff. 3. Do not let anyone from the squad go that we can’t replace during the remaining days of the European window. I’m thinking anyone from our defence or midfield. Kongolo must stay. Schindler must stay. Mounie can go if we need the cash. 4. Be honest about our financial situation. Be open. We’ve had two years on the gravy train and have apparently no gravy to show for it. Our wage bill was slashed automatically on relegation. We’ve released some big earners, sold some more and received decent fees, spent the square root of fuck all and fans are rightly wondering where the brass has gone. 5. Play the right system for our players. Elphick isn’t looking like the answer to any kind of question other than “show me a player we shouldn’t have signed” at the moment. We need Kongolo to play centrally. This means either a back 3 with Kongolo, Schindler and either Elphick or Stankovic, or a back 4 with someone else at left back. Either let Jaden Brown have a run or bring in a free transfer. Martin Olssen is available. I’d also look at a midfielder on a free. Hatem Ben Arfa , Yohan Cabaye, James Morrison and Joe Ledley are available, for example. I’d also look at Danny Simpson at right back. Give them sensible contracts. They want a wage. We need to find a way to give some of these guys one.
We are right in the thick of it but the Championship is one of those divisions where with a new manager bounce we could pick up points easily. The next week or so will tell us everything we need to know about Phil H. Either our worst fears are confirmed, or he is as ill-equipped and unambitious as some say he is.

A really good analysis mate, to which I will respond in a silly and flippant way when I get chance. Maybe we should just have a three point plan....

firstly start with a totally clean slate. Hudson has to go. He's the coach and as much responsible as Siewert was. Secondly hold a meeting with the players to see who is up for the fight. Any players not up for the fight rot in the reserves until we can sell them in January. Thirdly we need to employ the right manager. It's easy for us all to have a stab at any of the various names in the betting at the moment, but just because a manager has a high profile name does not make him a decent manager or the right manager for us. Fourth, we need to back him. The one thing that has been obvious for a while is that since Wagner wasted a shit tonne of money on two flying wingers (who are crap let's be honest) the club have failed to back the manager or invest in the playing squad at a sufficient level. Fifth we need system. A system that is going to get results.

I'd agree with all of that except I wouldn't have Parkinson anywhere near the place. As you say Hudson has been part of a failed set up now since last summer and if he was full of bright ideas then surely he'd have shared them with either Wagner or Siewert. The time for experiments is over, the next manger has to be experienced at this level or above.

By the time we've sacked, then recruited and trained up new staff we'll be in the Conference. He needs a short term plan to arrest the alarming decline, a medium term plan to move staff and duff players on and a longer term plan of solid investment for team strengthening with a good manager and coaching staff in place for the ride...

1. New manager is key. We have seen with Wagner, Farke, Wilder, Bielsa etc the difference a good manager makes. Regardless of the cost it is worth it. The new guy needs to inspire players, get any wantaways back on board. Sort us defensively as this was a strength and is more realistic than making us free flowing attacking. Karanka is the man for me. 90+ games at Real Madrid, 3 Champions League medals, good championship record.
2. Free agents. Invite players like Lee catermole in for a trial. Maybe a short term contract. Not even necessarily to play, but experienced good pro. We need some new faces to help get this loser mentality gone. Martin Olsson, Joe Ledley, players like this.
3. HoF working on January signings. 3 loans priority. Don't want to rush long term signings, but can't hang about.
4. Backroom. Think we do need stability and not make knee jerk reactions, but bolstering the team would be wise.
5. Q&A with fans, should do these regularly anyway.

Let him play in the league he wants to and deserves, he did ya right by signing a new contract so we could get a decent amount for him possibly in the summer. That would be a snide arse move

Its slim pickings with the window closed, but need plenty of new faces to change the culture. Cattermole is at least a very committed pro. On trial with a dutch team. Get him here on trial, see how he fits in. He’s committed alright, into tackles usually. Bigger liability than Bacuna. There are better out there who are free agents You want to name some? Its like shopping in tk maxx, the choice is crap. A trial wouldn't hurt anything.

1 switch off social media 2 switch off datm. 3 get some trusted people round you to help with rebuilding matters and ignore the shouters. 4 get a plan for the new manager and get him appointed asap. 5 don't appoint a mgr to appease the fans - if big names aren't the right fit for whatever reason don't appoint.
And finally, as somebody who knows him he needs to relax and ignore the vitriol. I don't know if he has made mistakes or been left a shitstorm, but rest assured the man cares hugely. That's a start and a positive one seeing as we seem to have players who quite clearly don't.

Make your mind up on Elphick! No thanks re Parkinson Rest of it, pretty good points, I recently said surely there must be a Championship standard left back around, Olssen a good shout! Should've said Elphick as a part of a pair is not the answer

Good points...except that getting a manager in from one sinking club to another is not a wise move at all, neither for his mental health nor ours!

Contact Sunderland and ask them everything that they feel they did wrong in the season they went down
Then do the opposite
