We need a stickers thread with things that weren't funny the first time so won't be funny for the 10 thousandth time. We could include calling Hodgkinson Potless Phil with calling Robins Bobbins or opposition fans calling us Dog Botherers.

Really, genuinely, don't understand what people get from these kind of "banter, wind up" posts. It's a bloody football forum, approach it with a sense of humour by all means, but creating an online persona impersonating the chairman, and unfunnily at that??? Mate, if you're 15 you'll grow out of it, if not then you probably need some assistance.

They haven't even created a new profile, just changed the name of their existing one.

Yep. As spoofs go these "Potless" posts are garbage. Are they meant to be funny? they are pathetic based on no facts at all. you are correct garbage is a polite word to use Factless or not, its the amount of responses they generate that I find funny. "Potless Phil" has definitely found an audience.

Sniggering in the playground? Is it any different to "Keith Longpockets"? Keith Shortbottom actually given time (years) to settle in before picking up that title i think.

I'm not arguing whether he's the right man or not, but you seem to be questioning his background, i.e. not having experience as an outfield player. Haven't you suggested that you could do a job as a manager in the professional game if given a chance? Fair point...but i am a genius Goalkeepers who became good managers is not only a short list...it is non-existent. Zoff did alright with Lazio and then almost won Euro2000 barring an injury time equaliser and golden goal defeat. Raymond Goethals (won Belgian League twice as a player), was an incredible manager with the national team, brought a Cup Winners Cup to Anderlecht and Champions League managing Marseille. Bruce Arena another keeper whose managerial career went far further than his playing stint...delivering astonishing progress to the national team and continuing to manage at top level now. Mike Walker was briefly the next big thing delivering European football to Norwich before he lost his way with Everton. Might be controversial to name him, but Kevin Blackwell has a very decent managerial record with a couple of high focus jobs at Leeds and Sheff United in amongst being a bit of a flop with the circumstances at Luton and Bury. That’s the higher profile ones off the top of my head...I’m sure it happens a lot more lower down the ladder, especially as there’s often been a trend to name keepers as captains and them having arguably the best tactical view of the game from their playing position. Fact is...there’s fewer of them because there’s fewer of them. On average 2 keepers for every 25 outfield players...it’s like saying, “how many left backs have gone on to be successful managers”.

Nuno at Wolves. Yes, you could argue that the chequebook helps, but he's dealt with the associated pressure, got players who were far too good for the Champ to turn up twice a week and smashed the division. Then did exceptionally well in his first PL season (except against us of course!) qualifying for Europe.

Possibly so Cod and therefore should be ignored. You can look through threads with pages and pages of what I would class as spam by certain members that feel the need to fulfil their quota of posts for the week At least Potless is fairly sporadic and can be quickly skimmed past without losing the gist of the topic

Adkins offered job according to the BBC.
Not sure how so many people have kid themselves into thinking he would be a good appointment.

I don't think he would be a bad appoitment in the current predicament we are in. We need a manager who all the staff can get behind and a manager that can be flexible with his tactics and style in order to pick up some points and good feel factor. It's hardly end of the world and i cant think of anyone better who would actually want it.

I wish him well and he may be just what we need at this moment in time.
However, we have made a safe appointment here and reverted to the formulaic methods practised by other clubs of our standing - we are back in the pack. We really did break the mould when we appointed DW, but this appointment probably typifies what is happening at the club - a lack of vision and no long term plan.

Adkins is boring, but that boring would be the safest option and no project to try stuff that we actually can’t right now. We are not in a position to do it. We were in the summer if we went for someone like him, right now Adkins is probably the best option to get us out this mess. Boring or not

It maybe not be a popular opinion but, in our current position, I think Adkins is the right man for the job. Give Him a 12 month contract and the we can start succession planning once Webb has settled into the role!

Let’s not class his last season with Hull as anything special, I’d say every manager in the Championship and League One could have kept them up. He’s not done anything of note in nearly ten years since he was at Soton.

Kenny - our success with Wagner was reliant on luck. We just can't rely on luck playing that part again, especially when we are in the position we are in. New chairman adopting a safety first approach. It's a sound decision.

Not as exciting an appointment as I’d hoped for but certainly better than Siewert or Hudson.
We need experience to help us stabilise and get away from danger, depressing to think how far we’ve dropped so quickly but that’s the situation we’re in.
A good sign that’s he’s worked with the director of football before in his most successful job at Southampton. They should hopefully work well together and I hope that means we’ll bring in some good players in January that the manager wants and knows how to use.

Sigh.. he's probably the right man for the job with our current situation I suppose. But it's a boring appointment none the less.
