I agree. VB would be an astonishing bit of business by Phil. Ain't gonna happen though. What qualifies Van Bronckhorst to be better than Adkins? Do both of you care to enlighten us all? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_van_Bronckhorst

My only major concern is that his last 3 jobs have seen a relatively mediocre outcome and him being dismissed. Reading - agreed. Sheffield Utd - agreed. Hull - Took them from relegation trouble to a comfortable mid-table position before resigning due to disagreement with the board over resources for taking the club forward. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48567210

Why is it a bad appointment? Let’s not class his last season with Hull as anything special, I’d say every manager in the Championship and League One could have kept them up. He’s not done anything of note in nearly ten years since he was at Soton. It's where we are, its a solid appointment. We need someone who's going to keep us up and get us stabilised, Adkins will hopefully do that. Now is not the time for more silly experiments with foreign managers.

Sigh.. he's probably the right man for the job with our current situation I suppose. But it's a boring appointment none the less. What's boring is winning 4 games in nearly 60. If he gets us winning games then it won't be boring. If he doesn't then he'll be off.

Cowleys won't leave during the season, Nigel is a safe appointment until next summer when we get them...

I wish him well and he may be just what we need at this moment in time. However, we have made a safe appointment here and reverted to the formulaic methods practised by other clubs of our standing - we are back in the pack. We really did break the mould when we appointed DW, but this appointment probably typifies what is happening at the club - a lack of vision and a long term plan. Kenny - our success with Wagner was reliant on luck. We just can't rely on luck playing that part again, especially when we are in the position we are in. New chairman adopting a safety first approach. It's a sound decision. Yes, it may well be and I don't really have a problem with this appointment - it may work out OK for us short term. But... the jury's out as far as I'm concerned regarding whether we are operating in the right manner and looking 3 or 4 years down the line when the money has run out.

The year he took over, he won 1 out of his 1st 10 games.

Yes he might bring us some boring wins, getting us some boring points, and boringly might make us a better team to watch than at the moment. Just to bore us even more he might get some of our players playing to their potential. If you want more excitement snort some coke, but remember "drugs are bad n'kay". UTT ( irrespective of who is in charge).

Tough opening games for him as well, don't want to think of the outcome if we lost against Wednesday next week

Feyenoord. A league where a player can score 50 goals in 60 appearances, come over here and not get one as seen with a few. So why does that qualify him to be better than Nigel, to help a team in dire straits in a dog fight with very low morale? Not a champions league chasing, Dutch star filled team with high morale. Adkins is a better fit for the job on hand by a mile. So if you can tell me why Van Bronckhorst would be better for us right now and what his credentials are in England and our league, I’ll wait.

Winning major trophies 3 years running at Feyenoord & then leaving due to having an eye on a job at a higher profile club. Would he be better than Adkins? Probably. Is he likely to take an approach to manage us seriously - even for a second - let alone actually take the job? Nope.

Any manager 'worth his salt' could sort this team out, build-on it in the next window and make it their own.

Otium. A man who revels in his ignorance. Yet is never wrong. Surely being never wrong requires unbounded knowledge? You're not really gentle Jesus are you you're just a fella? Ignorance of nothing is nothing. I can explain how your intestinal tract works....but i cannot tell you who is the right-back at Yeovil is am afraid. I am not revelling in ignorance....i am merely trying to point out that not all are interested in the minute details of football. As i have said, i am often wrong, just a lot less than the average Joe.

Don't remember seeing that. At least those are plays on names and slightly amusing. Whatever floats your boat i suppose. You have mentioned four, after googling. Thats four from perhaps 10,000 top class managers across the main countries in my adult lifetime. A very, very short list. Also you dont really manage a national team....it picks itself....so your list is 2.
