I suppose popular enough for fans to want to pay for season tickets and watch it in meaningful numbers I understand that England ladies get a crowd but I just can't see it growing any bigger than it already is Like I said I have no problem with them playing it,but I will never have any enthusiasm for it....a bit like Fartown really It reminds me of Rugby (either code) or Scottish football in that regard. There's a tiny handful of well supported clubs, but really nobody could care less. I mean - this is supposedly a prime time televised sport...that in real terms nobody is prepared to pay to go and watch... www.footballwebpages.co.uk/womens-super-league/attendances/2022-2023...full of fake clubs trying to sell their selves off the back of the names of mens football teams and grab some of that tribal following...West Ham Women play at Dagenham & Redbridges ground, Spurs Women play at Leyton Orient's ground, Aston Villa Women play at Walsall's ground, Liverpool Women play at Tranmere Rovers ground, Arsenal Women play most of their games at Borehamwood's Ground, Man Utd Women play at Leigh Leopards rugby ground. What's your point?

What's your point? The point is that the importance/significance/interest of the sport is being falsely inflated by the media, bigging it up as a product that has real mass-market appeal. It doesn't. With the move towards ever more IP based broadcasts and the greater granularity of viewer insight that that gives compared to the current BARB aggregated census and panel data, the advertisers will at some point pick up that the tiny viewing figures they get for televised domestic football are basically TV's left on as the people watching the PL game have fallen asleep at the final whistle, and they'll back off, which means the TV deals will shrink. Off the back of demands for pay and prize money parity with the mens game, its a sport that is doomed to implode if nothing is done about the relentless march towards pretending its something it isn't, and likely never will be. It's ludicrous enough that Sky and BT contribute so much to paying the wages of footballers as it is, but pull that money back from the women's game and there is nothing left to back-fill them. Same with Rugby League really - they've tinkered with it massively over the last few years trying to eke out TV interest, but the numbers are dying. Sky won't carry on paying the top dollar for ever once they stop to think about why the competition can't be arsed.

I've got a few insights but nothing confirmed so let's all just wait and see. I'll be surprised if it's not good news (for the women) though.

I assume this means you think KN has some intent to throw some of his money at them too, or potentially get them playing at the stadium? If so - good luck to him and them...just so long as we don't ever get into the situation where the football club is subsidising the women's team monetarily from its revenues (unless there is some advantage in doing that in terms of allowable losses) that could otherwise go towards spend on the mens team. Community investment & engagement is good - hopefully HTFC will continue with the YAA and School Meals etc type activity - but not pumping into organisations that have a happy albeit low-level commercial existence already, operating in a semi-pro fashion.

At least you're putting some insight and knowledge into your criticisms and not just slagging the game off because, you know, they're women. Unlike many on here, who seem to delight in telling people they're not interested, albeit interested enough to click on a thread dedicated to women's football I completely get what you're saying too, but perhaps the artificial push WILL enable some growth and bigger growth than you expect. I'm sure I read somewhere that interest and attendances have increased far quicker than other men's professional sports, but can't recall where. I agree also about any promotion of the women's team shouldn't have a detrimental effect on the men's team, but if KN wants to finance them without knocking that off his revenues for Town then I don't see any problem. Same with people complaining about the women's game being on telly. There's over 150 channels on Freeview, never mind Sky, BT, et al. Just change the bloody channel, mornjy twat! Twat not aimed at you townarebest, aimed generally.

I think subsidising it could make sense as a big picture, long term move. The amount the women's game has grown in the last few years shows there's an appetite for it, and while it will never usurp the popularity of the men's game in this country I think there's some amount of social good, and to an extent a moral obligation, for Town to support women's football in the area in the same way big clubs should support the grassroots game. I don't think that support would ever come at the cost of the men's team budget, it'd be from a different pot.

Potentially of future relevance is the fact that any expenditure on women's football (likewise youth and community development) is deductible from the FFP 'profitability and sustainability' calculation... I always struggle to get my head around this offsetting / exclusion of some spend. So..lets say hypothetically allowable losses are roughly £10m a season...and a club has income of £30m and spends £45m each season (with £40m on regular football spend, and £5m of that is on youth/womens/other excludables)...so is right on the £10m limit of what is allowed in terms of loss in the season. 30m - 45m (+5m excluded) = 10m loss for FFP purposes If the youth/womens/community spend is changed/increased, lets say increased by £5m to £10m for simplicity, and the £40m on regular football stays the same...then in real terms without improving inbound revenues you've lost and need to cover more, but... 30m - 50m (+10m excluded) = retained 10m loss for FFP purposes. But - there's no "new" money going to regular football spend?? So - those 'exclusions' are simply exactly what they say, they allow clubs to "lose more", but in areas that are considered worthy loss leaders - rather than being a mechanism for gaming the system and hiding loss and spending more on the actual football team?

Potentially of future relevance is the fact that any expenditure on women's football (likewise youth and community development) is deductible from the FFP 'profitability and sustainability' calculation... ... shortened... So - those 'exclusions' are simply exactly what they say, they allow clubs to "lose more", but in areas that are considered worthy loss leaders - rather than being a mechanism for gaming the system and hiding loss and spending more on the actual football team? But the losses on the football field are the same and allowable. The way I have always read Financial Fair Play refers to what's on the football field in a competitive sense. They don't want Huddersfield to put a Billion Man City type team onto the field and be winning things. I maybe wrong, but wasn't this a big club idea/initiative that was basically self interested to keep them on top and keep them making a profit? (Arsenal/Liverpoo type club churning out Champions League football every season) They don't care if we went bust supporting women's football, they just don't want us to go bust after winning the premier League. This shows with hardly any consideration given to stadium ownership and how it can be refinanced and sold a dozen times when the stadium seems to be key to most clubs in their communities.

A great new link up between the men's and women's teams. Buy tickets for the men, help support the women and save money! WIN,WIN,WIN!! No doubt some haters are gonna hate it though. £10 / £5 tickets

It’s a difficult subject to simply dismiss.
Women’s football is encouraging more young girls, teens and young adults play a sport and take part in a physical activity though in some cases this is being at the expense of ‘traditional’ women’s sports like netball and hockey.
For Town it feels as though the trade-off would be in the latent audience that it could convert to paying customers. Both Leeds and Bradford have women’s teams and already poaching players from this area. My understanding (could be wrong) is that the HTFC womens set up is not quite as ‘welcoming’ as other clubs.
Personally, I would have thought that a highish-profile team would benefit a club of our size. I agree that it feels as though the bubble will break at the top end as I don’t think there is a TV audience and ultimately that is what will dictate the game at the ‘elite’ club level.

Did this get off the ground? If we could get another 36 & a half people, I'd put a tenner in.

Town have a friendly away at Leeds, playing at Thorp Arch training ground. Kids in Leeds shirts everywhere. One little girl proudly wearing her Town top just went up and asked for a photo with the team. Walked off with a right smile on her face.
That's why clubs should have a women's team.

This season they can use the academy gym and have access to the press conference room for analysis. New owners seem keen to do what they can to improve things on the women's side!

Guess it will all come down to money. If the overheads of staffing etc are much greater putting the game on at JSS compared with current situation then it might not be a priority if the clubs a bit cash strapped. Would be good if its feasible though, presumably cut down stands open to lower overheads of stewarding etc. Would make them feel more a proper part of the club.
