A post from the Oatcake forum shortly after we'd scored. Don't know why, it just amused me, life of a football fan eh!
"Holy shit, we are in such trouble.
If we can't beat these we truly have no chance of staying this league, look at them ffs."

This thread of hyper optimism reminds me of, the day after wolves away.

It's about substance not style. Once the basics are implemented and the management have their players then style can come. We need results no matter how they are earned. Exactly this. Cowley keeps talking about the process and presumably the aim is to remove this horrific losing mentality and low confidence from the team. Getting 3 points on the board and a clean sheet no matter what it takes is part of the confidence building and a step in the road to hopefully seeing what these players have in their locker when they can play without the monkey on the back We’re not there yet but that result COULD be one of our most important wins of the last few years It was certainly nice to see the players fighting for each other and sharing the celebrations after the game. Plus, I think we’ve been too nice for a while. I’d never say it’s nice to see a club time wasting but ultimately it’s part of the game and for once we benefitted from it last night.

There’s goals in our team. Grant, Campbell, Bacuna all know where the goal is..Prichard will add more threat under the Cowleys.

We played a very hard working but very nervous and often incredibly cautious Stoke side. They have some good players and a few days earlier had outplayed Forest for long periods. The game was set by stoke's approach and tactics for long periods and as the away side, also on a very long poor run of results, it really was not up to us to open up the match. If Stoke played like that against Forest it may well have been a very different game. We played the Stoke team and tactics that appeared on the night and won the game, it's football, there are 2 teams with often different agendas and you win using whatever way you can find over the 90, no matter how you had 'planned' to do it? The idea that in this division that there is any sense in talking shit such as 'losing to this team' or 'should be beating so and so' simply means you can ignore the years of odd results and how many non favourites have turned the league upside down?

I saw him interviewed after the game. I really felt sorry for him, he came across as a very decent bloke, not offering excuses and accepting the inevitable with dignity. I hope he finds a decent job in the near future.

Just mentioned in the match thread that I'd only just seen his post match interview, bit bizarre with no official announcement having been made.

Read this article before he left. A very honest assessment. "I left a wonderful club to come to another wonderful club." Hhm - think he is genuine about the first statement, the second probably just added to appease the Stoke people. A manager leaving a club where he almost achieves iconic status, to join a near basket case who need completely turning around after a disastrous couple of seasons, hats off to him and ANYBODY ELSE WILLING TO TAKE THAT GAMBLE! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49905806

What’s needed now is not more tempering of expectation. No one has any expectatuons they’ve been bludgeoned out of us with a near 2 year horror show. Honestly, Town fans don’t seem to have heard of positive mental attitude. What’s needed at Town is some positivity, some belief and some confidence. That win will do wonders(should’ve been back to back wins) for the players.
We are scoring goals again- just about, but it’s vital the fans get positive as much as possible now and get behind the players every game.
Top effort for those who went to Stoke. Loyalty well rewarded! And don’t anyone tell me that the singing from Town fans didn’t push onto victory because it clearly had an impact. TTID

I think we've seen individual elements of our game improve in different games, but it has not all come together at once yet. Tuesday was definitely our best defensive performance for ages, but midfield and attack were not so great. I'm sure all the different pieces of the jigsaw will fit together at some point and we'll give someone a right pasting.

Absolutely, for the first time in a very long time- before Jan, we’ve been appaling defensively- amateurish. Tuesday we looked like professionals again and we managed comfortably albeit against a poor side.

And Uth then! Is he still signing? No one has ever changed their mind ever ever when involved in transfer negotiations. So obviously I need shooting for saying that. Has "hot hands" caught a football yet?

Two teams very, very low on confidence but with some decent players, however Stoke had a lot of the ball (but that was always our game plan) and created virtually no chances of note.
Town created 2 clear cut chances and scored 1 of them.
I don't see this as an unjust result.
