Oldham got promoted to the top tier playing on a plastic pitch in the 80s and then had to rip it up to comply with the top tier rules. Now in the national league đ¤

Will this be Townâs first experience of an artificial pitch for a competitive game? Since the early attempts in the 80's at the likes of Oldham & PNE.....Don't think we played on QPR or Luton's, a lot better these days. We had an FA Cup tie at Luton on the plastic in 1985.

Great draw for Tamworth v Huddersfield Town Even better draw for Aldershot at the wembley of the north!!. Should be 50,000 there for this one.

Yeh, bloody freezing it was & a nightmare journey (inc match)......But, I think we played them on grass, not 100% sure mind.

According to Wikipedia, they have just under 5k capacity with just 518 seats. Capacity is 4,000 and after segregation and room for TV camera's Town will be lucky to get 600 tickets.

We'll play a weak team, loose 2-1, blame the state of the pitch and say we're concentrating on the league.

Sutton v Birmingham will 100% be first pick. After that, there's plenty to choose from. Tamworth v Town Chesham v Lincoln Franchise v Wimbledon Southend v Charlton Woking v Morecambe Curzon Ashton v Mansfield It wouldn't surprise me though if whichever one of BBC/ITV doesn't get Sutton v Birmingham goes for Harrogate v Wrexham instead. Northampton v Kettering too. Local derby down there. If Kettering were at home maybe a shout, but the tv like to go to the non league ground plus more chance of a shock.

It was grass - I was there as a young lad with my dad and his mate. A very unpleasant day - got well beaten and the terraces were a bit tasty to say the least. Lots of missiles flying around in the open end behind the goal.

Artificial pitch and not a good one either! Very tight little ground as well. No chance then!

If it was the game when Brian Laws got sent off, in what I think was his last game for Town, then I was there too. I got hit on the head by what I thought was a coin.

Yeah just checked the pitch was installed for the start of the 85/86 season, thought they had already installed it by that point.

We have played at deepdale on plastic. I remember the high bouncing ball that we couldn't cope with . Mid 80s .

Just what we need for our injury list. A 3G pitch!

Preston used to load the corners with sand so they could lump the ball into the corner, and it would stick. I think we drew 3-3 once around early 90s and lost 1-0 before.

Just what we need for our injury list. A 3G pitch! We do have a 3 or 4 G at Canalside so no excuse for not being prepared. They're far more forgiving than AstroTurf for injuries.

Sutton played at Tamworth opening game of this season. I didnât go but I read their forum. Bear in mind that Sutton had had an artificial pitch themselves before they got promoted to L2. They werenât complementary.
Apparently the pitch wasnât watered and it was very hot so the pitch got sticky, there wasnât any âblack crumbâ on it and the bounce was excessive. Might be less of a problem in November perhaps.
Other comments - Tamworth looked poor and theyâre apparently still part time. The pitch has a slope to it and the near touchline and goal line couldnât be seen from the terrace.

So according to that report the tv channels have had the number of matches they can broadcast live increased in the early rounds by the FA to make up for lost revenue to EFL/NL teams. So it was eight last season in round one (inc replays), what number will it rise by & will it mean itv/bbc show live games simultaneously?........I will guess at no more than ten.

I think it was the 3-3 when it was so windy, every time we got a corner the ball refused to stay in the quadrant and just rolled off the plastic pitch. Seemed like every corner took 5 minutes of faffing about...

Looks like a tiny wee ground one new stand, one very old covered terrace and nine floodlights (it was ten but one was taken away for the erection of the newer main stand) - Plastic pitch and slope could be defining obstacles to HTAFC but the whole tie keeps the absolute magic and romance of The FA Cup very much alive ! đ For What itâs Worth Tam (Is there any Scottish Town fans called that) hereâs a pic of The Lamb đŚ Stadium !

Yep think Chris Hutchings scored one of the others from the edge of the box as well.

Didn't QPR have a plastic pitch, they are truly awful and Mr Duff will be slightly anxious about players getting injured i would imagine.

So if Tamworth were to knock Town out of the cup would that take the number of non league teams to do so up to three?......I seem to remember Colchester Utd & Accrington Stanley as the two who have, anymore?

Happy with the tie. But getting s ticket will be impossible. Wish we could go back to first come first served queuing out side the ticket office.
My job unables me to sort tickets etc until after working hours.
