Huddersfield can have no complaints about Friday’s 2-0 home defeat to Luton Town. Their approach in the first half, when we showed no energy or attacking flair, was inexplicable. Luton defended deep in two banks and were clearly happy to keep things tight and wait for the chance to come. And we played into their hands. Our defensive approach was acceptable against a Preston North End (PNE) side that still had play-off hopes but not against a side with the worst defensive record in the Division who had shipped nearly two goals a game. What was even more discouraging was the team’s failure to raise their game after the Hatters’ 49th minute opener. Even at that time, it looked like match over.
This defeat saw the Terriers remain in 19th on 47 points, but the sides below us now have the weekend’s games in hand. (I will add the usual addendum after those matches.)
Sheffield Wednesday, who we visit next Tuesday, 14 July, kick off 19:45 had, on Wednesday, a disheartening 3-1 home defeat to PNE, that were all late goals. Prior to that fixture they had lost their last two games. The Wendies, though, are comfortably in 16th place, on 52 points, with nothing to play for. They have a modest home record of 7-6-7.
The reverse fixture, on 15 September 2019, was a 2-0 defeat, with a goal in each half. This meant that Garry Monk made a winning start as Sheffield Wednesday boss, and that Danny Cowley's first game as the Terriers’ manager ended in defeat.
We meet the South Yorkshire outfit quite often, but our results away to them are mixed with a 4-3-3 90 minutes record since 2000, in all competitions. We last played them at Hillsborough on 17 May 2007, when we won on penalties, after a 0-0 draw, to qualify for the Championship Play-off Final. With the uncertainty over Wigan Athletic's points deduction continuing we still need three, and possibly four, points to feel safe. I think that against opponents who might find it hard to be motivated we should get one of those points on Tuesday.
Paddy Power make the Owls favourites with their current odds being: Home: 7/5 Draw: 23/10 Away: 9/5

Cue a points deduction for Wednesday before the match which could suddenly give them everything to play for.

Town will win this. We will stay up as a result. We’ll buy a team full of lower league hackers over the summer ‘Cowley’s kind of players’ and be even more attritional, dull and clueless next season.
There are no horizons.

Compact and direct has to be the order of the day. Our wingers are ineffective so why bother. 4-3-1-2
Lossl DD. Stankovic. Schindler. Toffolo. Chalobah. Hogg. Bacuna. ESR Mounie. Grant.

I think this is a very difficult result to predict but i'm going for 1-1. Confidence will be very low at the moment and with it being a 7.45 kick off I notice Boro, Wigan & Hull (playing today and 6 on Tuesday) will all have played 2 more games before we play again which isn't going to help even if they only get a couple of points each.

I'd play both Kachunga and Quaner. 2 players who actually seem to care about the club and will give you everything. I'd rather have them than supposedly better players who don't have the fight.

Need 3 points it’s as simple as that.
With our GD I have a horrible feeling we’ll need 51 to stay up looking at other teams final fixtures. WBA is a right off, and even a point at Millwall feels optimistic if they’re still pushing for play offs.
I want to be optimistic but if we don’t win Tuesday I think that’s that.
God knows what team I’d put out - not a single player seems able to score. Please no more 4231 though - it’s painful to watch.

Kachunga has to start
For all his faults - attitude, work rate are not amongst them - and he makes the TEAM better
Getting his body in between man and ball, winning those 50/50 Etc
No coincidence he started at Birmingham and the TEAM played well

The players don’t give a fuck so why should I
Be typical Town to get a result and the players will be wanking themselves off into oblivion posting post game pictures on Instagram
Papering over the cracks in my eyes this seasons a fucking write off (the past couple of have been) regardless of what division we’re in next year

Lossl Chalobah, Stearman, Schindler, Brown, Hogg, O'Brien Bacuna, ESR, Toffolo Mounie
Bench: Coleman, Duhaney, Stankovic, High, Daly, Kachunga, Willock, Campbell, & Grant.
We need our most successful central defensive pairing back together and as Toffolo spends most of his time in the opposition half then lets strengthen that side and have Brown behind him. King & Pritchard who consistently contribute four fifths of fuck all, can fuck off altogether for me

We need to scrap the width. We don't score off crosses and the wingers don't cross anyway. Go with the same team as V Brum and give Kache a go. We need to just play through the middle and get bodies into the box. But I imagine we will go there looking for a 0 0 and give up when they inevitably score first.

I feel like weeping it's got do bad. Wednesday are on a downward spiral, it's going to be attritional but Wednesday might nick if 1-0. Birmingham must be in a bad way if we beat them 3-0 given what we've seen since.

Grant playing off Mounie in a front 2, in theory, sounds like it should be clinical but we’ve never even tried it. If I was sticking my neck out I wouldn’t mind 3-5-2, with wingbacks, given we don’t have a single good winger at the club. Might at least manage a couple of shots with the below team, and more height in defence to stop conceding from crosses. Lossl Stanks Stearman Schindler Chalobah Bacuna O’Brien ESR Toffolo Mounie Grant

What is the point of putting balls across the front of the oppositions goal when we have nobody attacking the box. We honestly have nobody prepared to bust a gut to get into the box and it was interesting to note that Frazier Campbell had not touched the ball in the oppositions box for the vast majority of his time on the pitch. We need ESR , O’Brien and Bacuna to work some magic as we have no other flare players and yes that includes Grant. Whatever team we pick I hope they have some pride and fight as only Stankovic came off with any credibility last night and he is leaving!
