Gotts Periera Ward Garner - Hopefully Grant replacement RB signing CB loan What else do we need? Another winger (Willock)

Some different news: Callum Morton, a striker for WBA, has turned down the chance to play for Town to join up with his old boss, Michael Appleton, at Lincoln. I understand why Lincoln is a good choice for him: he’s being coached by someone he knows and he’s only had half a season in L2 so probably wants to walk before he can run, but he outright DECLINED us. I never thought I’d see the day where a footballer turns us down to go DOWN a division. His potential game time is immaterial, we are set to have a game every 4 days (give or take, cup runs are obviously a variable) so he would have played, no doubt about it. Does he need to prove himself in L1 before coming to a Championship club? Possibly, but WBA gave him a 4-year contract today. A PL club has given their striker a 4-year contract despite him only plying his trade in L2 so far in his career. That’s quite the statement to suggest that they clearly rate him. Regardless of whether you think he would have been a good signing or not, anyone who looks at this situation and isn’t bothered one iota about being rejected for a team (small team as well) in the division below is lying. Also, for those who shit themselves because of people posting on here without a source, here’s mine: Morton’s brother. He works as an U18 coach at Town and has meetings with the first team management daily (mainly regarding promoting players to the senior squad, but often transfers are discussed as well). Make of it what you will, but anyone pretending that players rejecting us to go to L1, whether you wanted them or not, isn’t an issue.. Jesus wept. I think any striker looking to go out on loan would see Town as quite a challenge. As things stand they would be behind Grant, Ward, Campbell and Mounie with Harratt and Obiero looking good and knowing the staff and the system. I have no idea what Lincoln have by way of strikers but it won't be anything like that. So if you stand more chance of getting first team football at a level you can possibly excel at you can see why that may be a preference. How can you post that with a (presumably) straight face? Campbell and Mounié don't score, Grant is off, Ward is an unknown and Harratt / Obiero have very very very limited first team experience. We're still in desperate need of goals imo

I think we will get goals from a lot of different players under the new system. Relying on one player for yours goals is not good. We will have plenty of shoot on sight options this season I think. We have seen that so far with the number of scorers in the friendlies.

Harrat although a good prospect couldn't get into Harrogate's starting 11 - he's also spent preseason with the youth teams Obiero has 45 mins experience and looks more of a winger Grant - if stays - plays on the left wing Ward would be first choice Mounie isn't a fit for the style we'll try to play and looked ackward in the preason games Then Campbell who is nearly 33 and has injury niggles I think there's a great chance at Town for a talented young striker to come in and get into the first team

Sounds like the Sobhi deal is 99% done and the fee being mentioned is 5m.
With a bit of money coming in that hopefully might get the ball rolling with signings

"three experienced strikers with different attributes" ? Wouldn't it be better to have ONE, who scored goals ? I'm honestly not trying to start an argument but what are the "different attributes" these 3 strikers have ? One is big, decent in the air when given service and tries to hold up the ball and bring others into play. He isn’t mobile but did well coming off the bench last season. One puts a lot of work in outside the box and really gets in the faces of the opposition. It generally means that he isn’t in the box trying to score but it worked well for a time last season when grant was scoring. The other runs the channels, plays on the shoulder of the last man and stretches defences. Of course it would be better to have an all rounder or someone who is a goalscorer like Rhodes when he was here but we are stuck with the three strikers we have and it’s not likely that we are going to sign another. Especially given the wages that are tied up in those three. Thanks GaryR - I can't disagree with you - pity that neither of us can put "goalscoring" as an attribute.

I still think Phillips could feature more than the other young strikers but we’ll see Yeah I agree - they wouldn't have signed him if they didn't think he was close to making an impact If we're going to play 4-3-3 then there's more opportunity at Towm for the attackers to get minutes I also don't think we'd "burn" one of our 5 permitted loans on players not likely to feature in the first team

This is nothing short of phenomenal, 100 pages nearly for 1 signing! Only Town could do this. Edit 2 whole signings. UTT
