Which club has played the most games at the second highest level of the football league (Second division in old money). ...and which 5 teams have played over 1,000 games at that level without ever reaching the top flight? Portsmouth? The 5 teams...Rotherham? Bristol Rovers? Walsall? Doncaster Rovers? Scunthorpe United? No (not in top 20) 1/5. Although two of the other answers qualify & have played more than 750 games at second tier level.

No (not in top 20) 1/5. Although two of the other answers qualify & have played more than 750 games at second tier level. Which one have I got right? Notts County for the most appearances at the 2nd level? Rotherham was correct. Bristol Rovers and Doncaster good efforts. No Notts County have played less than us at that level.

Barnsley as one of the five. Wrong, Barnsley as the one which had played most.

Barnsley as one of the five. Wrong, Barnsley as the one which had played most. Correct most games in second tier only oneseason in top flight. The next four highest number of games Leicester, Hull, Notts Forest & Birmingham.

Claude Anelka (older brother of Nicolas) and one time agent and DJ fancied getting into football management in 2004. He offered 300,000 quid to any lower league club to accept him as their manager and Raith Rovers of the Scottish 1st Division took him on. It didn't end well. After only 8 games he resigned (1 draw and 7 defeats). He became Director of Football and resigned again a month later. He has since failed to set the footballing world alight with his managerial skills and was last heard of as Director of Coaching with Little Haiti FC!

No I've confused you those four are the next 4 highest games at second tier level.
At start of season Barnsley over 3,000 Leicester 2,500 + etc.
There are 5 teams played over 1,000 games in second tier but never played in top flight.
Rotherham are one & there are 4 more.
Bristol have played over 2,000 games in second tier but have played 9 seasons in top flight.

Leyton Orient had a season in the top flight in the 1960's. Shrewbury a good answer, Mansfield only one season in second tier. PS Of the three remaining, one is one you'll think you should have got, the second is harder and the third a surprise (to me at least which sort of prompted the question). I've seen us play two out of the three at this level.

We've played the easy one quite a few times at this level in fairly significant games (and also at the two lower levels also in fairly famous or (infamous) games.

No only 230 games in second tier. Re the club & Fairly memorable, first time I saw us score 7 & in the 21st century they stayed up by beating us, we've relegated them and they've relegated us.

There's a football stadium in northern Brazil (Macapa) that is exactly on the equator. Nice to think you can play the first half in the northern hemisphere and then head south for the second half! Or vice versa of course. Just looked on google earth, it as a running track around it, no stands, and ironically there is a mirror image of it about a quarter of a mile south.

Stat from today - Scott McTominay is the first player in Premier League history to score twice inside the opening three minutes of a match.
Remember that for your pub quizzes.

Huddersfield Town did not play in the FA cup in 1995, knocked out in 2nd round in 1994, joined in 3rd round in 1996 We also didn't play in the FA Cup in 2000 either, although we weren't the only team to be in that position. For some reason the 3rd round that season was played in mid-December (when we lost to Liverpool) and the following season the 3rd round reverted back to January.

El Mundo, the second most popular newspaper in Spain, has printed details of Lionel Messi's deal that he signed with Barcelona in 2017. It's not clear who leaked the documents of the 80 page deal but the financial details are as follows: Basic salary: 61.3 million per year. With bonuses and add-ons this can creep up to 138.8 million. He's on course to have made 511 million over the last four years. Especially interesting is the loyalty bonus to the tune of 77.9 million and the signing on fee (renewal bonus) for 115.2 million. All figures in Euros of course.

I saw the other day that Barca were going apeshit and threatening legal action about these details being leaked in the press, it just made me smile when you put his basic of 61.3M€ a year can creep up to 138.8M€ with additions. Not creeping very stealthily at 125%, more taking huge, heavy stomps with hob nailed boots on.

Bayern Munich got off to the worst possible start setting off to Qatar for the Club World Cup. In fact they didn't start at all. The plane they were on in Berlin (straight after their Friday evening game against Hertha) was not allowed to take off as it was already past midnight by that time and night flights are forbidden! Bayern boss Karl Heinz Rummenigge was hopping mad and raging "those responsible don't realise what they have done to our team". The players spent the night on board before flying to Doha via Munich (change of crew) after a 7 hour delay. The funny thing is the scheduled flight direct to Doha was for 23:15 but the plane had to be de-iced. By the time they asked for clearance to take off it was 3 minutes past midnight. Too late, goodnight!
