Penalties were introduced in 1891 and the first recorded one given was saved by the keeper, a Henry Wilmot playing for Clifton Rovers against St Andrews in a local Bristol league match.

Phil Jones signed for Manchester United 1st July 2011. He has been managed by Ferguson, Moyes, Van Gaal, Giigs, Mourinho, OGS, Carrick, Ralk and Ten Haag. He still survives to this day without ever playing and every transfer season he is injured. He's never sold or released and Man Utd will renew his contract when the current one runs out. He earns $4.5 million per year from Manchester United for doing nothing.

Town sold Alan Gilliver to Blackburn for £30,000 but were then ordered by the FA to give Rovers £18,000 of it back because Gilliver had a slipped disc in his back at the time of the transfer.

I remember that! I also remember it. I still can’t understand the decision. Blackburn would have done their medical. If they missed the injury surely it was down to them. Funny how it still rankles after some 55 years! |

Just heard on the Arsenal Everton game, that if Arsenal beat Everton tonight it will be the 100th time they have beaten them, and that it will be the first time that any team in the football league beat another team 100 times ever!!

There's a thing doing the rounds as told to me by my Argyle mate after Saturday. Apparently they will be promoted as champions because every team Huddersfield have played first in the last 3 seasons have done so. Unfortunately had to deflate his optimism. Told him it was every team we played in our first HOME game of the last 3 seasons. Norwich, Fulham, (drew at Derby first game), Burnley with Leicester City our first game this season, so 4 on the spin? |

Just stumbled on this thread! Gilliver got given the regular No.9 shirt at the start of the 65/66 season. He scored in the first four games.....7 goals in total. He was a strong lad....recall him bursting into the Carlisle(?) area with one of their defenders piggybacking him! |
