I'll be honest, I rate the lad but if offered 15m I'd likely sell. With the right recruitment you could improve the side significantly with that cash. That is only if we had assurances that the majority of that money would be used to improve the squad and not going straight to pay off Hoyle (I'm not trying to start the old Hoyle argument again, just staying). What on this planet makes you think we would invest any of that? Its pure madness. We have a team of free transfers and cheap signings. We will never replace O Brien with 10, 15 or 20 million and we are 6th. We should be keeping our best players. That is why I said 'if' we re-invested the money. I never said I thought they would. I think 15m is a lot of money for him.

Why would you sell him? He's the heartbeat of the team and unless we get an offer we or indeed he cant refuse then i for once am with big ern. We want to be adding to what we have in what in my opinion is a mediocre league this year again. Staying free of injuries and adding a touch of additional quality and top 6 is surprisingly achievable imho.....unlikely but as ever we need to aspire to be the best we can be. Like I said, if the 15m wes re-invested into the club on additional players I'd take 15m with pleasure. I appreciate I don't think it would be that's why I said if.

It’s inevitable that O Brien goes, but it will rip the heartbeat out of this team. We can play another way in time but it will be tough to change mid season and still keep winning games.

Agreed, and I know those shite too well. We have picked up a few decent buys in the cheaper lower million range though and done quite well there. I agree though yes we've signed some dross, I'm attempting to be optimistic.

Correct but some just don't get it ten million is the fee agreed between town and obrian if met he will go if he wants that is the end of it but if some one is prepared to go above ten that is better for town more clubs interested the better

Perhaps it's just a rumour?

Release clause would have to be paid in full upfront, so maybe a team could negotiate a higher fee over a few years to bypass that. Not sure how often that happens

Leeds probably don't have £10m to pay for O’Brien upfront.
They'll still be licking their wounds from spaffing £55m on James & Rodrigo + the other £50m+ on injury prone duds. The only real good business they've done is Raphinha.

I'm pretty sure O'brien will leave in the summer if we haven't been promoted...and I think there's likely to be more interest than just Leeds so yes, a bidding war could easily happen..and depending who's involved (eg newcastle) that could end up us receiving 'silly money'.

Toff had put a tweet out when Eiting was announced, one of the replies was that he could let O'Brien out of the cellar at 23.01 🤣

Yep. Any bidding war once they've reached the amount in the release clause will be a war to impress the player.

He has a release clause rumoured to be between 10-12m, so no bidding war. I stand to be correct here. If his release clause is £10m and a few clubs are showing real interest in him, then one club could come in with a silly bid much higher than the release clause to try and get him, say £15m. In turn that could lead to another team offering more, say £17m, which in turn could result in the first club making another offer of £17.5m and so on....So even with a release clause, if a few teams are interested, a 'bidding war' could happen. If an Agent is working with either Town or the buying/bidding club to get a deal done, then it would be in the Agents interest to have the transfer fee pushed as high as possible as they would get a percentage. As I say, I stand to be corrected, but we could receive more that what his release clause is set at if someone really wants him and are prepared to pay

All teams bid the amount the release clause is set at, the player then has a choice to pick which club out of those he wants. It’s at this stage the clubs start to really get into a bidding war, but more in terms of wages and signing on/agent fees.

I like to think that the woman who screamed ‘don’t go Lewis’ to him as he walked near the ground in his track suit at the first home game played her part but things have changed since the summer window. At the start of the season, their ‘fans’ (and potential signings) might have expected them to progress up the league but it shows what happens when you let ‘fans’ into Elland Road. Apart from the money, why would anyone swap being near the top of the Championship with being near the bottom of the PL when the clubs could swap places? Even if that doesn’t happen, some Leeds ‘fans’ are starting to lose faith in Bielsa. From what I understand the statue is on hold even if the media love in continues but at some point, sooner rather than later, he’ll go, causing more uncertainty. Maybe Lewis just prefers it here but having seen what’s happened up to Christmas probably thought it’s best to wait for the Geordie’s millions.

Agents fees also aren't a % of transfer fees, they are a totally separate negotiation. Quite often payable on contract renewals too, especially at the highest level.

The whole purpose of a release clause is the club have to contractually accept, they can’t then start a bidding war. Unfortunately if anyone wants to hit the £10m (if it is definitely that amount) he will go for that amount, should he desire.
