Depends on your measure Pound spent per Championship point earned then we have improved Overall we have a weaker squad than we did 12 months ago though The two glimmers of hope is that we have a core of young players with good experience - assuming we hold onto them - and crucially the last of the wrong uns will never wear the blue and white again I don't see any of the young players making it, tbh. They seem to be the archetypal, technically proficient yet piss weak Academy player that we've been churning out for years now. I don't think very many of them would get game time in League Two, let alone many other Championship clubs. If we're relying on them to form the core of the squad after the wasters, wankers and wage thieving shitehawks have left this summer then we are in big trouble. Surely you think LOB, Koroma and Pipa have a chance. They’re 22, 22 and just turned 23 Hard to say on the others but Diarra especially is getting rave reviews As I said in another post REG, Schofield and Rowe all played over 20 games this season - I’d say at least one of those three will go on to have a good career at this level

I don't particularly rate REG, Rowe or Schofield at all.

The more pertinent question is... have we moved on since sacking Chris Powell?
For me - it's a huge no!
We've already resigned Holmes and Ward who've had a negative impact due to injuries and shitness - now the talk is of Jordan Rhodes coming back.
Are you fucking serious, Phil?

When you have 92 clubs all competing not all 92 can move on . We've had a promotion and spent two years in the prem . First time in 45 years . We've got the memories we thought we would never have . I'll take that

Are you fucking serious, Phil? we did for a wonderfully brief period under the charge or David Wagner, then it was back to earth with a bump.
I wouldn't lump all this on Phil either. He bought a dud under conditions imposed on him by our ex-chairman. A chairman who gambled big time in the Premier League, Failed, but knew he was guaranteed his money back and the club would be saddled with the debt when he left.

In the two seasons that we have had in the Championship since relegation, we have won a grand total of 25 games, 13 last season and 12 this season. Norwich and Watford have more wins in just this season. There has been zero improvement.

I think you're both getting me wrong here.
I'm a huge defender of Deano and accept we've had the best times over the last few years as Town fans (I'm nearing fifty). We caught lighting in a bottle with Wagner, but I loved every minute.
I even backed Phil through the 'Potless' period, but it's becoming apparent that he's not got a fucking clue how to run a football team.

That's where you're entirely wrong. He sacked the Cowleys because they wanted to run 'his' football team, then appointed some shills who deemed Carlos a worthy 'coach'. (With respect in return - I know you're an old school very good poster)

either the manager is telling the players to bore us to death,or the players are shite,it absolutely fucking rubbish, something needs to change, maybe the players can't understand the coaches, although looking at some of the quality of the passing, movement ect, maybe the players are just wank, maybe the coaching staff and the players are wank, and I don't think I can stand a season watching Holmes sitting on the advertising hoardings chewing on his bubba bubba bubbly whilst pretending to be pregnant with a fooking ball up his jersey before throwing the ball like a 6 year old to the edge of the box, fuck knows what's wrong with them, knobheads You never fail to cheer me up...proper laughing at that very long sentence:)

It has been a season of two halves, I suspect the poll would be very different if the order had been reversed. It definitely would but that’s the game isn’t it? If anything Carlos seemed to have summat about him but for whatever reason (injuries, tactics, poor buys*) he lost it. We could apply this argument to Robins, whose team had a decentish run before Christmas that included beating Leeds and Burnley when they were top or near the top. 🤷♂️ Obviously, these * have had an impact but it’s impossible to say that this has been a better season than the last one.

For many of the 92 clubs football can be a very cyclical thing though our cycle at the top table was rather short lived. Wigan won the FA cup in 2013, got relegated, yo-yod between championship and lg 1 for a bit and after going into admin following a change in ownership are closer to the 4th tier than 2nd. It can go wrong in a short number of seasons and we need to stop the rot.

That's the travesty for most fans at the moment, I reckon. We turned up in numbers when the going was good and somehow during the transition from Deano to Phil, there's not much left to cheer.

Exactly. I know some blame lies with Deano, the EPL, COVID, shit players...etc., but the guy who went out of his way to get us where we are know is Phil. He opted for Bromby and that prick who Brentford sacked as CEO over what the Cowleys were offering.

Playing devils advocate , have we improved (per £) compared to last season?
Outgoings of Grant, Mounie, King, Kongolo, Flo, Stankovic, Chalobah, ESR, Willock, Kachunga, Quaner, Simpson, Lossl with a very similar league position and points . Very few like for like replacements
I’m not defending any decisions at the club and I think we’ve been woeful since Blackburn at home , but we’ve shaved millions from the wage bill for the same outcome

The only thing that has improved since last season is the wage budget (not a bad thing) The football improved pre-xmas but that went out of the window once injuries started to bite & the severe lack of squad depth was exposed.
The only way we can improve on last seasons points/GD is if we beat Reading 4-0 or similar.

As a squad we were worse at the start of the season and far, far worse when the injuries set in.
At the start of this season I thought that we played much better than expected and as well as at any time the previous season. As we all have seen since the very start of the new year we hit some form of invisible road block that knocked our wheels off and we came almost to a holt.
The worrying thing about the second half of the season is that we could not find anyway around it. The change of tactics seemed to confuse the players and putting square pegs in round holes did not help. The fact that we kept repeating this when it was obvious that it only made our performances worse, is especially concerning.
From what we can see is CC is going to be the coach next season and this is a brave decision by Phil. If the wheels have not been fixed and the coach has not learned his lessons, we will probably have messed up the whole of next season in spite of any improvements to the squad that may be made.
