24k a week for an over the hill defender? I hope we're not paying him even a third of that

Whilst the amount of money is still mind boggling for what would be a 31-32 yo player at that point, my Q is whether that compensation is taxable or not.
If it's essentially back pay + inconvenience etc., surely it should be taxed accordingly?

Just another example of the grubby little club that WRDC really has become. More fiddles on the go than Nero!

It's one thing having an invoice and another getting your money.

It's one thing having an invoice and another getting your money. Do they have enough property for when the bailiffs come round? It would be funny if they confiscated Waghorn and gave him to Keogh to cover the debts.

I said at the time this first came out ages ago but I've still not seen anything definite on it: I'm not sure it counts towards FFP. His wages would have. Put 2 and 2 together and suddenly it all makes sense.

Now just needs to find a club daft enough to offer him a contract for next year. Hang on...

It's one thing having an invoice and another getting your money. I would suspect it will be classed as a footballing debt as it's a debt to a player. A club has to settle footballing debts or forfeit it's EFL share.

They will take in to account what he has earned since and loss of predicted earnings taking in to account the lower wages he accepted from what he would have earned at Derby on his contract. In answer to the tax situation, not sure if they are, they may be after a certain amount, like redundancy money is but couldn't say for certain.

On the Keogh thing. It’s like he’s in one big game of Monopoly. For years, he had a decent career and picked up his dough by passing Go. He got monumentally pissed, had a mare and went directly to jail, or the football equivalent. He’s now picked up a beautiful Community Chest card and we are going to take a fucking Chance on him next season!

Fuck me Do people not deserve another chance? We’ve all done stupid things in life, being a footballer doesn’t change the fact that humans make mistakes. Town have a good recent history of integrating players in to coaching roles and I think it’s a great idea.

He continued his playing career , fair enough, a mentor for the young players, no thanks.

Fuck me Usually mentors in prisons will be ex offenders, and there's a reason for that. What's the point in a mentor who has no experience of doing things the wrong way?

The guy got into a car while drunk, it was a poor decision, it doesn't make him a bad person. He's not the devil incarnate. he's not a murderer, he's not a paedophile.

Maynardblue indicated on the Retained List thread the offer to Keogh was "down to character and aptitude...Keogh has been very impressive behind the scenes."
I hope he realises he has spoiled the narrative of the pitchfork brigade on this thread with that.

Bullock & Jock Morrison beat folk to a pulp whilst on the piss.
Fuck knows what Jepson got up to in his youth.
One Town player assaulted a female paramedic whist drunk.
3 are thought off as legends.
Keogh is a passenger in a car crash and he’s the devil incarnate.
There aren’t half some hypocritical twats on here.

Personally, I don't think it's much coincidence that since he came into the team we have haemorrhaged goals. Nowhere near good enough at this level and if he is anywhere near the side next season then that tells you all you need to know about our ambition. I don't think that will be the case and I know the club will be acutely aware of this also so it becomes apparent that his new deal is down to what he can offer off of the pitch rather than on it. As someone said in another thread, it mirrors the situation with Hudson.

The example to set was take the keys off the young lads. Not get in the car . You self righteous are holes have never had life devastated by drunk driving . It is not trivial .

We need to hold on to one of the old guys imo to give a bit of experience. Of the four old central defenders Keogh is considered by management to be the most likely to play - through ability or fitness. He also has bags of captaincy experience at this level. He's been here for months so the club will know his character, irrespective of the car crash stuff. It's not a bad move IMO.
