Now you know how we all feel when reading your comments about your mate Bacca 😜 Ever since we re-signed him, everyone that thinks it's a good idea has made excuses for why he's been crap for 6 years but the ones for him not taking a penalty take the biscuit I get what you are saying. I’m just hoping he comes good because I’ll take anything even remotely positive after the last few years of misery!

That'll be a much better test as to where we're at than the two friendlies that we've had to cancel.

With the lack of friendlies I hope we're ready for this game. Treating it as a a warm up game is just wrong, particularly for the supporters who'll be paying their hard earned money to go & watch.

Agree 100% with this. This competition appears to become less important every season, how it’s still viable god only knows.

They should split it into North and south sections until the semi finals, keep it local, cuts down travel of clubs and fans, keep admission prices set for each round. It might even increase crowds. Its the European spot that keeps it relevant although the last team to qualify for Europe by einning it was Swansea about 10 years ago.

Treating it as a glorified friendly nowadays. Yep thats what its come to, for years now many teams haven't given the competition much respect although it earned you a place in Europe, it still does, but its in the new 'Europa conference league'.

I’m aware that Town got to the League cup semi final in 1967/68 season so had a wee look at the results from the start. It would’ve nice to have won it to complete the set of domestic throphies, but wasn’t to be and never likely to be now. One thing that surprised me was in the first round that season a team called Bournemouth and Boscombe competed. Some research showed the obvious, that it was the former name of AFC Bournemouth that was changed in 1971. So even at the ripe old age of 51, I learn something new ! Unlike our near neighbours, forced to relinquish their cherished Leeds City and change to Leeds United.... It’s Great to have been been the one and only Huddersfield Town since 1908 !

Our first season in the PL, I went to see Town at Crystal Palace in the League Cup, only a few weeks after our marvellous 3-0 opening day win. Town lost 1-0 in front of 6,607 fans who were on Palace’s backs after their terrible start to the season. Town just couldn’t be arsed, and I vowed never to waste my time and money by ever bothering to go to a League Cup game again. And it was on my birthday!

To be fair, Cups like this give the fans of Clubs like Wednesday in the lower leagues the opportunity to see bigger teams playing at their ground.

They are already in a tizz because Barnsley had the temerity to post "We will host League 1 club Sheffield Wednesday in a pre-season friendly." I imagine a Wednesday win will see them drag this post back up. Massive, dontcha know?

It strikes me as the first round of the Carabao cup has become "who'd like to lose most" (unless you are a League 2 club looking for a decent draw).
I don't know why they just don't can it or make it by entry only i.e. you aren't obliged to compete.

TBH I never gave Wednesday much thought until our playoff season, when operation pig and his arrogant deluded cohorts poured onto here to over egg themselves.

I genuinely didn't give a fuck, but their board was full of tales of men crying and 'greatest night of my life'.

How times change. Remembering how excited we all were for the Autoglass Trophy in the 1990s.
I can't help but feel a sense of sadness that the magic of the cups (even the FA Cup) has pretty much gone. As it is, win, lose or draw (and let's face it, we're destined to lose this because that's what we do in this competition) it will give little to no indication of how the season is likely to pan out. Because neither side is likely to be particularly invested in it.

As a Leeds fan once said to me "Bradford City? Not even the biggest club in Bradford".... Going back to the League cup I have enjoyed a few 1st round games down the years (Chesterfield a few years back when their keeper chucked one in late on) but it becomes ever more irrelevant.

If we can go I’m off to see town in the flesh! I don’t think the importance of a good result and positive performance can have on a squad should be under estimated! It could define the season’s momentum

I'm hoping for a few first teamers in with the 2nd string & youth/project players for that match. No first teamers = nothing to compare to, fringe players = get them bedded in & kids learn from experienced pros (1st team & fringe alike).
eg
Schofield
Ruffels Olagunju Pearson Turton
Hogg High Holmes
Grant Campbell Rowe

On the plus side, the club doesn't have to shell out the spondulicks to stage the game and thereby lose a bag of cash. Equally, it shouldn't necessitate an overnight stay in a swanky hotel; a quick in and out of Steel City, back before the pubs shut and in time for a bag of chips. Win win! Shouldn't being the operative word. Didn't Leeds used to stay at the Holiday Inn at Brighouse the night before their mammoth treks to Huddersfield? Town stay there when they are at home. Under Wagner they were always there, then the Cowleys stopped it, Corberan brought them back again. Lounging around reception with their feet on the furniture.
