I’m in if can get a ticket. Put a good side out put a shift in and get a good result to KO the season UTT Agreed. For all that this is a competition we've not taken seriously for some time, I think we should - and will - this season. The season opener is always a big game but to take advantage of what is likely to be the biggest opportunity to take 3 points away all season in our first league game, we'll need to hit the ground running. Iron out the flaws vs Massive & then make a statement vs Derby.

One o’clock on a Sunday? Guess that shows the amount of interest I’ve been paying.

www.swfc.co.uk/news/2021/july/owls-v-huddersfield-ticket-details/The Owls’ first competitive fixture of the new season takes place against Huddersfield in the first round of the Carabao Cup and tickets are on sale now to Season Ticket holders. The cup-tie unfolds at Hillsborough on Sunday 1 August, kick-off 1.00pm, and prices are as follows: £15 Adults £10 Over-65s & under 21s £5 Under 17s Please note that the Kop and South Stand only will be open for this game, therefore Season Ticket holders’ seats will not be reserved. Supporters can select their chosen seat where available. So the 1st time in 18 months they can have fans in, it's a local derby, the tickets are cheap and yet they're only opening 2 stands 🤔 They must be desperate to save every penny and must think two stands will cover the crowd that turns up. They won’t want to take the cost risk of setting up a third stand. That tells me they are in dire financial straits at The Wendy House ! On another note.. not likely to affect Town fans going to the match, but between my first and second Huddersfield Town matches , I went to see a lassie that stayed in Abington and had the misfortune of 20 mins of a bus changeover in Sheffield City centre. Having went to a nearby boozer, I ordered a half pint of Lager & Lime and a double whisky. The barman charged me, I take out a £20 Scottish note, he says “we can’t accept that” I said to take his pick of any five, they were Ligit.. He said he’d need to go next door to talk to the manager, thus wasting time I simply didn’t have to spare, so I just impulsively downed the booze an Legged it. ! What else could I have done in the circumstances ? I’ve never had any probs exchanging Scottish cash in London, Oxford, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Carlisle, Manchester, Blackpool, York, Morecambe, Coventry, Preston, Kendal, Penrith and (save the best till last) Of course.. Huddersfield. So in the unlikely event that HTAFC fans find themselves with a spare Scottish £20 note.. spend it anywhere but the steel city of Sheffield ! Or if you do try to punt it there, hope you have better luck then West Island Terrier did. !!!

£15 quid is a bit steep for that, a tenner would be plenty enough. Pleased to see reduced prices for under 21's, rather than just under 18's

What will the crowd limit be?
Both total and away end.

It's hard to predict how many people would be interested as many fans have missed going into stadiums so much that even a tinpot cup fixture might appeal. There were 3,000 newcastle fans at Doncaster yesterday for a nothing friendly for example.

To be honest I find it difficult to be enthusiastic when we draw these lower league clubs away in the first round of any cup.

Aye, my mam's mate came to visit us from Fort William (about 2010), took her to Meadowhall and not one shop there would accept her "foreign" currency.
Mam kicked off telling them they were breaking the law and it was legal tender, but they wouldn't budge.
Mam ain't been to Meadowhall since

I’ve had similar problems in the past at various places. Apparently it’s legal currency so can be used to pay for goods in England but it isn’t legal tender which means the shop does not have to accept it!

Yeah, that sounds like what my mam said the shops' managers were telling her.
Which is a bit mad, especially as I had a £20 note that had been virtually shredded (was held together by the silver foil line thingy) but was still accepted by Morrisons!!!!

Sunday, not much else to do for a lot of people. Only over the hill. First chance to watch a competitive fixture for god knows how long. I think there will be a lot more than 1k Town fans make the trip.

I’ve the sweet tooth with the Lager htfc1908 for sure and probably along with tablet why the old gaps are appearing in the bottom teeth nowadays ! That said if I was stuck on a desert Island for a month with a few crates of Lager I’d happily manage without the Lime.. Maybe that’s how it came about as I started drinking in the mid 80’s (underage of course made it better fun) though the hangovers and inevitable spewing thereafter weren’t ! I think the old underage drinking lark is a West Island thing, in fact probably an every island thing, as was the smoking, but drugs definitely wasn’t a problem and still isn’t thankfully, although it’s well known that a wee group like The marrow anna, but don’t cause a days bother from one day of the year to the next. For what it’s worth, the booze is ma vice... it goes very nicely with what I enjoy, namely footy weekends, 60’s & 70’s music concerts and holidays !

About 25 years ago we went to a mate's wedding in Ayr, I went to a cash machine to get the brass for the digs. It gave me £50 in Scottish notes. I went inside to ask for it in English so I could use some at home and they swapped it for a £50 note 🤨

I've a question for you Westisland, I seem to remember on trips to Scotland pints of 'heavy' was that bitter or mild? and was it just a Glasgow thing or more widely used? No it was further afield from Glasgow htfc1908.. We were 40 miles west of Glasgow and I can remember ma late daddy coming back from long voyages as a skipper deep sea, in the 70’s and cans of Wm.Younger’s Tartan and McEwan’s Export in the house and him ordering it in the pub as ‘pint of heavy please Iain’ I think the heavy was a medium type of Scottish ale, dark brown it was and there was also McEwan’s pale ale and Tennents Light And McEwan’s Export which was maybe stronger. My old man left the household in 1980 and I never really seen him again till 1985 where we’d meet in the pub every weekend as he was a big spender there and ‘got me in’ (I was 15 by then) Any wonder I’ve got “A” Levels on a pool table. ! There was was a drink available in 1985 here called Shandy Bass and Shandy Pilsner, the bass was the heavy type and it was available to legally buy in the co-op at 15. A few of the lads bought it to act cool in the streets in the dinner hour, but the more streetwise fellas like myself would save up our summer jobs money and bribe a couple of the local ‘characters’ (well really alchoalics at the corner) to get us a few cans of heavy or Lager and take them home and hide them in The disused Esso depo pump house for the weekend boozing shabeen with a cassette tape player with batteries for music. We also got the ‘worthies’ to get us a few scuddy mags like Fiesta and Escort but didn’t bring them to the pump house as the girls would join us on the Friday and Sunday nights ! The ‘corner boys’ were happy with this arrangement as our “pay” to them would cover a bottle of whisky for them and a couple of cans of super Lager. Aah the memories.. it’s all changed now and these guys don’t exist and haven’t been replaced, but my goodness.... mis-spent youth and all that !!!!
