Personally I think life bans are a bit extreme, for any crime, as it provides no potential to repent, learn from the apparent severity of one's mistake etc. An appeals process & increasing severity of ban (as I read someone suggested) is surely reasonable. I detest liars, Otium & a few others step up, but is it even against the rules? I don't think swearing should be allowed as it is, within the rules. So, I vote yes.

Agree yes. Lifetime for a slip up cock up when some may be pissed. They won't mean it just being a twat. Life is harsh.

I note that you're hiding the scores on the doors untill until the poll is locked. You may need to keep bumping the thread to maintain the interest.

The results of this poll will be interesting, I think it will be a close one. One option I did think of was maybe an annual changing of the admin. This could keep things fresh and hopefully avoid any personal agenda's.

Right now, I don't see anyway of removing the current admins......

And by the way, I inadvertently clicked the wrong option as the thread title is opposite to the poll question, so if it's a close vote, bear that in mind.

I've got annoyed with what I find bizarre, inconsistent rulings in the past. But I've put up with it because I want to post on here.
If people don't like the admins, go somewhere else. You don't have to stay here.

You might not like them but atleast they put themselves forward to try and keep the forum running in a decent way

I'd do it in a complete refresh of the admin group.

Devil's advocate here, for a minute.
The current rules have been pinned to the top of the board since May, and I don't think they were changed much - it uses the word "simplified". Happy to be corrected, but it doesn't sound like they were completely rewritten.
So if people had an issue with them, why not come forward before now? I seem to remember a democratic discussion about them in the past, and I don't remember any strong arguments about the yellow card system. Why do this poll now? Why complain about them now?

Lots of people have been opposed to some of the rules on many occasions, they are destroying the forum. Been discussed a few times before.

On the whole I think the admins on here do a great job, but personally I'd have kept Oti. Something else will be keeping him off here soon enough.

It was a bit of a loaded question, to be fair - it's pretty obvious why. I guess my point is that the rules have been there for a while, there's not a great deal of an excuse not to know and understand them, so there aren't too many excuses. And if you don't fully understand them - that's why there's a system in place for warnings, polite chats with admins, yellow cards etc. And for the record, I'm not entirely convinced by lifetime bans either - but I don't feel strongly enough about them to want the rules changing.

And by the way, I inadvertently clicked the wrong option as the thread title is opposite to the poll question, so if it's a close vote, bear that in mind. If you click where you voted wrongly it will remove your vote and allow you to place your vote where you originally wanted it 👍🏼

I hadn't realised I had done that, thanks for pointing it out. Do you know how I might change the title? Edit: I found a way to change the title.

This is now becoming a debate about how the forum is run and the rules.
I'd like to know which rules, specifically, need changing. What is the justification for that change?
As for the Admins, these guys give their time up to keep a degree of equilibrium. I don't see them as draconian in any way.

I suppose we all have different takes on what would be good rules & I indicated mine. I would add, for admins to be picking new admins is a bit of closed shop. Transparency is key to acceptance & democracy is better than dictatorship.

I've posted over 4000 times and never had any cause for admins to bring me to account. All those arguing for change and criticising the administration seem to have an axe to grind. By all means have the debate about change but let's keep things in proportion. Many people post with respect, even if they don't agree with the views of others. That is how it should be.

Here's a rule. The most petty and targeted rule going in fairness. God help those that turn off spellchecker and have dyslexia. Writing on a forum is now an essay, otherwise you'll be yellow carded. Pathetic really
This also includes consistent poor spelling - The users of this forum have expressed their preference for posts to be written in 'clean' English - there are no excuses for badly spelled posts, as all forum users have spell checkers at their disposal, even on mobile devices. Certain slang / nicknames / acronyms are acceptable in the context of a post. Blatant misuse of the English language will not be accepted however.

You seem to be reacting strongly to my last post, which wasn't meant to be controversial. I don't see why offering an opinion is arguing, having an axe to grind or even criticising. I'm not trying to do any of those things, I merely sought to facilitate a solution to the developing matter that I haven't even engaged with in the threads.
