Dear Isaac Mbenza Anyone who's ever watched a game of football, could see from your highlights real you're a player who would prosper in a team playing attacked-minded football. It's no coincidence that in the three years you were with us your prospered in the only three months in which we didn't play turgid dross. Before you came, many of those on this site with anger-management issues took it out on a winger called Rajiv Van La Parra. Their main criticism of him was that he kept running into trouble instead of releasing the ball. You did the opposite. They're angry about that too. Best wishes and hoping Qatar Sports Club don't play turgid dross. BB Dear Bermuda barnacle To achieve anything in football one has to work hard - basic ability is a prerequisite for top level professionals, however without effort, hard work and desire it means jack shit. IM was an absolute disgrace for most of his time here and the fact at 25 heβs gone to the hotbed of Qatar football sums up what most have said about him for most of the last 3 yrsβ¦.namely heβs a waster with a shit attitude and one who despite playing for Belgium u21s not long ago, heβs now plying his trade at non league level. Yours sincerely Kilner bank watcher of IM do mostly feck all week in week out.

Dear Bermuda Barnacle,
Can you tell us why you like Isaac Mbenza so much?
I'm still going to disagree with any reason you give me. But I'm inquisitive as to how your brain works in the same way that I am about Flat-Earthers.
Yours truly, KC

Dear Bermuda Barnacle,
Is your son really called Isaac Barnacle?
Really? Man thatβs funny π€£
Anyway, it is what it isβ¦ but please stop writing to me. I donβt like it. Itβs creepy.
Yours,
Isaac Mbenza Child of the desert.

I donβtβ¦.. youβve given your reason (son also called Isaac)β¦. Iβve given mine (IM is a greedy self serving sod). Iβm right and you, therefore, Mr Barnacle are not!

Reading Phil's excellent interview, it's easier to understand a) why we triggered the contract extension; and b) the frustration about what occurred. Based on that, I take back some of what I said about Town's approach.
But according to Phil there was only ONE concrete offer for IM before the window closed. It sounds pretty decent, in terms of both wages and fee and people can speculate on the reasons no other offers came through. Nevertheless, Phil's account is different from what we heard from @maynardblue, which was that numerous offers were made, and that IM rejected them all.

Played us like a fiddle and no guess where the 3.5m went.

It was a disastrously gamble.
Ultimately we didn't receive a fee for either of them & undoubtedly restricted our otherwise effective summer recruitment!
Mbenza will be rocking up in Greece come January. Lets hope Bacuna plays enough to start to see some return/s.

But it didn't. Phil invites us to speculate that was down to the manoeuvrings of IM's agent. Fair enough. But that's different from saying numerous offers were made and that IM rejected them all, which is what we had previously been led to believe.

Fair play for retracting some stuff BBβ¦.. β¦.. as for that Maynard - what a lying toad. Heβs always pretending to know stuffβ¦. If I were you, Iβd block him so you donβt have to put up with all those times where he is absolutely spot on with his infoβ¦.. All those times when he tells us who and what and whenβ¦.. β¦.. that way you wouldnβt need to post stuff having a dig at him cos itβs only 99.9999999999% right instead of 100% which would mean you also wouldnβt have to retract at a future point!

That's how these transfers work, most of the time they (illegally) make the offer to the players agent. If agent and player agree then they will try and agree something with the club. There's no point negotiating with the club if the player isn't interested - but if you want to try and score a point BB you go ahead.

I'm not interesting in scoring points, but I am interested in finding out what actually happened. From the point of view of a buying club, Β£3.5m is a lot of money if you know the selling club doesn't actually want the player, and wants his wages off its books. It's hardly surprising that if that were the sort of figure being quoted, 5 of the 6 clubs decided to hang back. That would create a situation in which Town would be hoping Mbenza would accept the offer from the one club willing to offer a substantial transfer fee; but that Mbenza and his agent wouldn't want to be dictated to by that. That all makes a bit more sense.

Mbenza was like a morning after beefy curry fart at the meeting where you are discussing a pay rise. The ones where you have no control. A gurgle, a sharp but brief stomach pain and out it pops. Everyone can smell bot, no one mentions it but there are nervous eyebrows raised by all. Who dealt it ? Am I the only one that can smell it ?
Then meeting done you stand to leave , shaking hands with all and sundry, turn towards the door and sneak another silent but deadly as you head out.....Mbenza was akin to that noxious release.....and you are glad to get rid ! (just as Town are glad to get rid)

Yeah something similar did happen once before, but it wasn't Nahki Wells. It was the Straighttalker thread (ie the guy who was claiming his father was on life support in New Zealand and needed DATM help to get out there). I was first to call it out as a fraud, after asking Straightalker: "Please tell us: *the name of the hospital in NZ and contact number *the name of the ward *the doctor in charge *your name and your dad's name." The abuse I got for doing that makes this thread seem like a love-in. Turns out Town were after Β£3,500,000 for a player who a few days later would be available for free. Nice try Straightalker. Nice try Town.
