So if this lot bought Town and promised to make us into a global super club winning everything available, you'd say yes, or no. Would you still watch? To be honest, I don’t think I would. Didn’t miss footy as much as I thought I would during lockdown, so that would push me over the edge.

I'm not sure they'll become contenders, I think they'll struggle to attract enough quality players/coaches.

Money is everything and they have oodles of it now, so can't see them having a problem myself. Think for the competitiveness of the PL its a good thing. Puts another club in the mix to win things alongside City, Utd Chelsea and Liverpool. Cant think of any other major top divisions with that many serious contenders. Dont see the power , global appeal and wealth of the EPL waining anytime soon. But its probably bad news for the also rans who might have been hoping for the same kind of investment to land on their doors that Newcastle now have. The Evertons, Leeds, Villas and Spurs. Theyre clubs that could have attracted similar buyers but maybe this would make that less likely now? Who's going to invest the fortunes needed when even if you do, you might not even get in the top 6 ? Got to know a few ( lapsed ) Newcastle fans where Im living now and none of them could care less about the moral argument of the money coming from Saudi Arabia. I doubt more than a tiny proportion of football fans give much of a stuff about that kind of thing. Its all about results and winning

Bit bad tho if that what it takes to win a trophy?, where do rest of clubs fit in to criteria? the original big 4 dont want other clubs to fit in. Thats why they were looking at the superleague franchise. They want to guarantee their champions league income not have to spend money to win the chance. The only good thing to come out of this take over is one of the original big 4 will end up being an also ran probably arsenal and means the chances of Leeds ever getting back up to the top 6 will be even slimmer. Out of interest, who do you see as the ”original big 4” and what date are you picking?

I'm not sure they'll become contenders, I think they'll struggle to attract enough quality players/coaches. Disagree. If the Chinese super league shows us anything, it's that money talks. Pay enough and anyone would go to Tyneseide. And, as much as many on here are understandably saying that if it were Town they'd stop following, I think the majority wouldn't as soon as the success on the pitch started rolling in, and many new fans would also appear. To all those who say I should give fans more credit, Chelsea's following has risen exponentially since Abramovich, who has plenty of blood on his hands, got involved, The same goes for City. They're both now global brands.

If there's one club that could make a right fuck up of being the richest club in the world then it's probably Newcastle.

Arsenal and Everton have spent plenty recently, to go nowhere. Because almost everyone is wedged there is a big element of making the right signings and appointing the right manager in order to crack the big time. Yeah we all know they'll find ways to skirt round FFP to some extent, but plenty are acting like they can just go out in Jan/Next summer and slap down £1b in fees, build a world XI overnight and pay Mbappe/Haaland etc £1m a week to tempt them to the North East with no 100% guarantee of success. They can't. I am sure they will get there eventually but I think it will be a slower burn than Man City. If they have any sense they'll go build a world class training ground, get a high calibre DOF and start hoovering up top kids like Dortmund do. Unlike Dortmund they'll be able to keep them. My Mrs is a Newcastle fan and she's not exactly enamoured with it all but what can you do other than walk away. There's dirty money everywhere you look.

There is dirty money everywhere, especially at the top end so Im not sure the moral finger pointing at Newcastle isn't a bit selective. Its quite amusing to see them bleat about it... Man City unhappy with it FFS!! Its scary that the also rans are owned by billionaires like you say, but that isn't enough to even seriously challenge for a CL place now. Doesnt seem that long since Jack Walker bought Blackburn a title with a few million! None of this really effects Town of course. But if some multi billionaire ever wanted to buy our club and pay for it to be a PL also ran, then Id be fine with that too!

One of the problems Newcastle will always face is trying to attract big names who are happy to live in a place where everything is wet even when it hasn't rained. Newcastle or Barcelona or Milan? Hmmm...

Can’t believe it’s 24 years ago since they came second. Think they had two competitive seasons then went back to a yo-yo club. They still are a yo-yo club for me and have been most of my life. Be interesting to see if their ridiculous wealth can bring them success. As many have shown over the years, it’s very easy spunking millions but turning it into trophies is another thing. Seems a bit rich the rest of the league all of a sudden finding some moral compass too 😂😂

Might be a right cock up.? There was a few to be fair. Obviously 1996 is the main one and that 12 point lead, but they also finished 2nd the following year, and a few years later they were right up there again. I'd love to be in these type of positions heading into March with 7-11 games to go and the league to actually be in your own hands. I'd have been delighted, and still will be, with a club expected to be 7th - 9th, with the chance of getting back in the top 6. It'll certainly beat looking at how Burnley's, 2 of the 3 promoted clubs, and one other are doing in order to sneak 15th-17th. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Be interesting to see if their ridiculous wealth can bring them success. As many have shown over the years, it’s very easy spunking millions but turning it into trophies is another thing. Seems a bit rich the rest of the league all of a sudden finding some moral compass too 😂😂 They finished 3rd, 6th, 2nd, 2nd, then had 4 years of 11th-13th, which was seen a a big underachievement (not a fantastic job as it would be now) and the likes of Dalglish and Gullit were sacked / resigned as their results didn't match the budget, but they did get to the FA Cup final 2 years in a row and faced the league champions on both occasions, so still ended up in Europe both times as the runner up, before going back to 4th, 3rd, and 5th (in line with those above pics around 2002-2004). I was born in 1986 so can only remember parts of that 3rd place season, and got properly into it during the 6th place finish, but from 7 to 18 years old, we were constantly in Europe, and while that's clearly not our historical place in terms of top table, and football is cyclical, it is strange going from feeling like a proper big club for about half of your life (as that's all you knew) where 50,000+ fans at the time was extremely rare, high league finishes, big European nights, world records broken, top players constantly coming in etc. to seeing clubs who you used to consider behind you, now being a million miles away from you. Our lack of recent trophies is obviously well documented, but then the likes of Everton have won 1 FA Cup since the 80's, Spurs a couple of league cups, likewise Villa, so outside of the obvious traditional 3 biggest English clubs, and now Chelsea and City because of investment, these other sizable clubs were not exactly swimming in success in most people under 60's lives. All things considered - overall trophies, Premier League points and finishes, all time top flight points, matches in Europe, general club profile, fanbase and catchment area, I don't see why Newcastle shouldn't have been ran like a 7-9 type club, and I don't think that's unrealistic, or warrants being a 'deluded Geordie'. That's pretty much what I want, no danger of relegation, expected to beat promoted sides at home, not be 5/2 to beat Leeds at home, or not even favourites at home to Southampton, and if you have a really good season, and one of the 'big clubs' are a bit below par, there might be a chance of a top 6 finish, or similarly, if other lower clubs get it right, then we may end up 11th or 12th in what would be considered a poor season, also to maybe be in a position to actually target a cup, not want to be out at the early hurdles as it may 'compromise staying up'. I said earlier that I would have preferred a less controversial takeover where the resources would still be sizable, but not potentially astronomical, one where 7-9 would be the norm, but just footballing-wise, I can't deny that I am excited about potentially, at some stage, getting back to where we were when I was a young lad (even if above our natural station), although staying up this season would clearly help initially. As for the football side of things, they haven't put a foot wrong so far. First of all, Steve Bruce looks like he'll be out of the door in the next couple of days as they don't want him to have a negative affect on the atmosphere next Sunday vs Spurs, a match that was completely sold out 10 days in advance, there's talk of investment into the women's team, which is well behind where it should be. The social media account has been absolutely fantastic (and very active), and there's probably been more communications, and set out plans and objectives in 4 days than in the previous 14 years. Reaching out to club legends for ambassador roles, and they have been in constant communications with fans groups for years anyway, as it's over 4 years since the fairly local Amanda Staveley first showed interest in the club. It'll sound totally ironic, given the circumstances, and particularly that one well documented incident, but the club really has received a new lease of life out of nowhere.

But if some multi billionaire ever wanted to buy our club and pay for it to be a PL also ran, then Id be fine with that too! That's my point though, it is enough, in footballing terms. If the Wolves or Villa owners decided they wanted to spend £5b on an assault on winning the CL they could do that with virtually zero affect on the lifestyles afforded by their wealth. It's more than enough money to buy 20 world class players and pay them the going rate - Sheikh Mansour has apparently 'only' put about £2b into Citeh to transform them. But it's impossible because 1) FFP now means the Wolves/Villa owners couldn't put that money in overnight and 2) Most current WC players wouldn't go until they were virtually guaranteed CL football. Despite the vast differences between having owners worth £10b and apparently £320b, these same problems will affect Newcastle. Look at Man Citys early buys, it wasn't until they nicked Tevez off Man U that they had a genuine already world class talent. Before that it was: Robinho from Real Madrid Jo from CSKA Nigel De Jong from Hamburg Craig Bellamy from West Ham Wayne Bridge - very much 2nd fiddle to Ashley Cole at Chelsea) Shaun Wright-Phillips - again a bit part Chelsea player Shay Given from an in turmoil and about to be relegated Newcastle Pablo Zabalata from Espanyol Vincent Kompany from Hamburg Some good players and big money for the time spent with the latter two going on to become club legends but nobody who you'd say was at the time in the world class bracket. Only Robinho, SWP and Bridge you'd say came from elite clubs too, and 2 were bit part players whilst Real Madrid also wanted rid of Robinho. I definitely think it will be harder than a lot of Newcastle fans and the mainstream sports media think and talk of Mbappe/Kane/buying first team players from City/Liverpool is absolute fantasy at this point no matter how much money they have. FFP has been sold to us as levelling the playing field but really its just a tool to keep the status quo and pull up the drawbridge for anyone else.

Theres also cheating to get round FFP, obsessive self interest and a sort of unofficial cartel amongst the major players which is why they wont be happy with having a new member forced on them. Its quite amusing to see them bleat about it... Man City unhappy with it FFS!! Its scary that the also rans are owned by billionaires like you say, but that isn't enough to even seriously challenge for a CL place now.Doesnt seem that long since Jack Walker bought Blackburn a title with a few million! None of this really effects Town of course. I like that we're a 'local' club and if we can establish ourselves as a Championship club that might have an occasional year our two in the PL every so often, then that would be our best achieved IMO. FFP has been sold to us as levelling the playing field but really its just a tool to keep the status quo and pull up the drawbridge for anyone else. a tool for keeping the rich clubs in their positions of power. it should be scrapped.

There is another aspect to consider, the impact on an impoverished northern region can be significant. No matter what happens property prices will rise, employment will expand and other businesses will become aware of the doubtless beautiful area of the country (with some massive exceptions )

Didn't Robinho come from Santos or suchlike, he left City FOR Madrid. He famously thought he was signing for Utd, he didn't know there were 2 teams in Manchester No, Real Madrid bought him from Santos as the next great Brazilian wonder kid. Spent 3 years there and did ok without ever living up to expectations then went to Man City (thinking he was off to Man U) and his career tailed off from there.

On an aside, what is it with Citeh and nonces? From wikipedia.... "On 23 November 2017, an Italian court sentenced Robinho to nine years in prison after he and five other males were convicted of sexual assault in the January 2013 gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman at a Milan nightclub. As part of the judgment, transcripts of Robinho's messages intercepted by police were released, including one from Robinho to a friend in January 2013 that said: "I'm laughing because I couldn't care less, the woman was completely drunk, she has no idea what happened." In a different chat, a friend of Robinho sent the message "I saw you when you put your penis inside her mouth", to which Robinho replied: "That doesn't mean having sex." Under Italian law, his sentencing will not be enforced until after the completion of the appeal process.[88] At the time of the sentencing, Robinho was in Brazil, and under Brazilian law, a Brazilian citizen cannot be extradited to a foreign country. On 10 December 2020, Robinho's nine-year prison sentence was upheld by the Italian courts after appeal. The Milan Court of Appeals found that Robinho had "belittled" and "brutally humiliated" the victim, while he also tried to mislead investigators from the onset by providing a false version of events he had agreed upon with his friend.

One of the problems Newcastle will always face is trying to attract big names who are happy to live in a place where everything is wet even when it hasn't rained. Newcastle or Barcelona or Milan? Hmmm... Man U and Man City seem to attract good players,I've heard it rains there,,Newcastle's a great city with some beautiful places on its doorstep, I'm beginning to think you have a Geordie fetish.

Newcastle’s biggest problem for me is it’s location and lack of diversity. It’s ok signing British players, but I think they will struggle getting top international players to go there. It just doesn’t have of the draw of London or even Manchester. And for me that’s where they will struggle. And they’ll have to throw even more money at it to overcome that.
