Am I the only one that thought our tactics worked? We restricted a very dangerous Forest side to a handful of chances in the first half and then took the game to them second. They were there for the taking, we just didn’t play well going forwards. But not sure Carlos got the set up wrong. We will never know what would have happened if we went at them from the off but we would have been more open to a fresh Forest attack and maybe not had as much in the tank for the second half. If we had the rub of the green there would only have been one winner in extra time. Are you saying that our tactics were to contain Forest and play for a 0-0 or a lucky draw in a game if such magnitude? If do, Corberan must be shown the door immediately. Not exactly, saying that as the game panned out, had we scored we would have gone on to win. I’m just disagreeing with the notion that Carlos set us up wrong - I think he got it right.

That's quite clearly not what he's saying. I guess not having a shot on target didnt help. Dreadful result, dreadful game. 2 pieces of luck, the own goal and the penalty went against us. Both teams were lucky to get nil. O brien played well. We move on..

I suppose the media got their fairytale…
Their owner is an interesting character.
After now seeing the 2 penalty shouts, I can only concur with some of the comments on the BBC, good that he’s retiring, those were shocking decisions and proof that this game was also about his legacy…
As supporters though, we have to take the shit that will undoubtedly come our way, dust ourselves down, and hope we can go again with the same determination that saw us through to the final. Third defeat in umpteen games, unfortunately it was the one that counted.
No hard feelings against the Forest supporters, it was the officials that didn’t do their job…
UTT!!!

Can't disagree that the longer the game remained at 0-0 the more our chances of winning would have improved, we're a very fit team, Forest in the semi really struggled for the last half an hour. It's very possible that was the game plan. Get to half time at 0-0 and we're happy with that, as it is a bit of bad fortune cost us at the worst possible time to concede.
Nothing I can say about the penalties, Moss and VAR that hasn't already been said. Just plain embarrassing.
Not going to slate Carlos for leaving Russell out who I thought let the occasion get the better of him in the semi, or starting Sarr who has been excellent for the last two months.

You might as well say our support is fucking shite so we give everyone a stupid price of cardboard to clap like you're at a kids sports day
That and the acres of empty seats. Rubbish to be honest. Any other club we would be giving them pelters

Walked in 30 minutes ago. Incredibly long day, journey there and back stop start on the M1 all the way from the Midlands down. We actually took our seats as the teams came out and didn’t hang around too long afterwards so that’s a round trip of 9/10 hours for 90 minutes of football. Thought it was a game of 2 halves, Forest had the better of the first half although fortunate to go in 1-0 up whilst we were much better in the 2nd half. Neither keeper properly troubled throughout but to have lost it to an own goal was galling. Re the pens, I need to watch them back on a tv screen but certainly the images I’ve seen suggest at the very least the 2nd was a stonewall pen (and why didn’t this one go to VAR?) but we feared the worst when we knew we were getting Moss as today’s referee. He’s been fat, out of shape and behind with play for years. I’ve had messages from fans of other clubs after the game and everyone of them without exception thinks we’ve been stitched up on the pens. 5 of us have been down today and none of us are particularly crestfallen tonight, we’ve had a far better season than I think anyone ever expected and although we ultimately missed out, we knew what was waiting were we to be promoted. At least the Premier League, Sky and all the other media outlets have got what they wanted and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. We will go again come August and I look forward to watching Forest getting some right canings next season on tv. UTT

One other thing. The new Wembley is a fantastic stadium but the area surrounding it resembled a shanty town. Run down and litter everywhere, a real dump. I know there are some parts like this in all big cities but it reminded me of something the old man used to say about London, a great place to visit but you wouldn’t want to live there.

Have to say I thought it was a fairly even game yesterday. Little chances on both sides. The penalty decisions certainly leave a sour taste though. When it’s so obvious blatant cheating from the officials. Anyway fuck forest they will get battered every week and go straight back down. Won’t be too long until the Billy big bollocks big clubs go back in for the European super league aswell and the prem will be a thing of the past.

I watched the highlights and as a neutral (and many others of Redcafe) believe that you were robbed, everyone knows that Moss shouldn’t be allowed to ref Subuteo never mind an actual game. Shocking referring, the first penalty claim you can clearly see that if the town player doesn’t pull his leg then there’s contact and he goes down…..possibly injured. The second was about as stonewall as you can get, maybe they just wanted the “big” club in, either way it was shocking referring.

Regarding Lewis O'Brien. Teams have worked out that you can "tag team" the fouls on him before he can get into dangerous areas and they will face little retribution. He must have been deliberately brought down either 5 or 6 times yesterday which stopped momentum... and this is the reason why if he moves on it won't be such a great loss and we can get another player to fill that role. A player like him needs more protection and he doesn't get it. The free kicks we gain from these fouls are usually in less-dangerous positions and that's why they are good free kicks to give away.
I thought Russell and Holmes were very good when they came on, but we had a couple of players in the first half who froze a bit... Sinani and Sarr.
Colwill will eventually put the own goal down to experience and it will be just one hurdle to surmount in a promising and hopefully long career.
Not going to talk about the penalty as I've nothing to add except i'm completely flummoxed... more to do with Tierney not wanting to question Moss' decisions in his last game.
Hooligan elements of Notts Forest fans looking to kick-off in the Town end amongst families was sad and left a bitter taste.

After the game I was pretty realistic about losing....disappointed of course but nowhere near as upset about previous defeats such as Peterborough (twice).
I've woke up in a right grump though after catching the second half highlights. Partly the penalties - the first was one of those you see in cricket...if the penalty is given and reviewed it stays the same as the benefit is given to that decision). Still - clear contact and toffolo moving at speed. Second one is a penalty but can see why not given. Why not checked by VAR though I have no idea.
Mainly its just a slight frustration that Forest got off lightly. I was always in the camp that they could cause us problems with their running and down the right side but that we could cause them equal problems with our counters and set pieces.
In the end we just about stopped them completely but couldn't execute the second part of the plan. Just a couple.of players didn't perform on the day and we haven't gotnthe resources to carry a player.
No recriminations though....totally proud and I'm sure they are hurting.
I'll try and avoid it today then move on....be interesting to see what we do next. A really good base to build for another good season but need to make equally good decisions on recruitment as last season. I hope we can and add a couple of real attacking threats and probably replace o'brien in that driving midfielder role.

I thought Carlos got his tactics wrong first half, as well as some of our players simply not turning up at all. Their goal a total fluke but hey ho. Second half I thought we were great. Why was Russell not played from the beginning? Strange decision that one. I'm not going into detail about the penalties, just to say that someone high up wanted Forest to win and us to get nowt. As for Wembley. Fabulous Stadium stuck in the middle of a land that time forgot. Shame.

Poor game, as these finals always are. Lucky goal. Not seen any highlights or replays and have no intention of watching any but regarding the penalty incident, it looked a clear dive to me and we had a good view of it, looked like a deserved booking. I may be wrong but it is irrelevant now. Never nice to lose but it was Forest’s year, you could sense it weeks ago. Hope we keep the bulk of the team, if we can add 2 or 3 quality players, also replace any outgoings with transfer money received, looking forward to what will most likely be one of the most competitive Championship years for ages. UTT

Once you see both replays, you’ll feel sick.

One thing i have learnt from the playoffs is Danny Ward is a pea heart and goes missing in big games, Luton game he was never injured just hid behind their defenders didnt show for the ball, yesterday completely anonymous, wish we had played Rhodes but is what it is, new striker for next season please.

Still furious with the team selection - why change what we’ve done well for the last 25+ games - We lost an outball and got swallowed up, pushed us deeper, couldn’t keep the ball. We played well last 35 when Russell finally came on and controlled the game but too little too late by then. Huge call by Carlos to start Sarr over Russell, a costly mistake - Referee incompetence aside to not have a single shot on target is woeful
Even more furious with the inept officials - I’m struggling to get my head around how badly they got it between them. Are they inept / incompetent? Negligent? Or worse?

I came away from the game thinking forest just edged it but neither side played well, wasn't that upset about it.
But then I saw the penalty shouts from better angles and thought we were unlucky and that the ref was incompetent.
Since then I've learned that we were down as 3/1 to win that game which is ridiculously long odds. And that Forest's owner has been involved in match fixing in Greece. And the media interest lay in forest winning. I'm now facing a decision whether to just say ah well it was one of those things, or to call this out as a fix.

Would agree we need a goal scorer. Defence is so strong. The defence being strong is part of the attack problem. For large chunks of this year we played like we did first half yesterday - sat deep, soaked up pressure and either got the odd goal on the counter or, more likely, scored from a set piece. It didn't work yesterday as both our final balls and set pieces were poor. W A "goalscorer" would have made no difference as we didn't create anything. Well apart from being hacked down twice in the box.
