Get Brodie Spencer in... give him a chance. Got caught out big time with both goals v Cyprus the other week. Looks like he may need a loan before throwing him into the rigours of the Championship. Agreed. He's only just turned 18, plenty of time for him to develop yet, but the mistakes vs Cyprus suggest he ain't ready yet (although conversely, there were enough good bits about his performance - not least the assist - that show the potential the N. Ire. selectors saw in him). A loan to National League with some agreement on splitting his time between us & his loan club, similar to Austerfield's arrangement with Harrogate last season might work. Somewhere local (e.g. Halifax - although there are other options in York, Oldham) to facilitate that would probably benefit him enormously. www.htafc.com/news/2022/march/team-news-town-b-vs-stoke-city/

Wonder if we’re waiting to announce it alongside a new signing.

Is this the new Hoyle era? Sell our players without bothering to tell us? Quite a turnaround if that's the case.
Dummy still firmly in mouth but quietly concerned about our outgoings compared to our incomings thus far.

Pipa training with Oliympiakos and the deal not being officially announced doesn't have to mean anything untoward.
Maybe it hasn't been officially announced because he hasn't actually completed the move yet! If it falls through unexpectedly, the clubs are going to look pretty stupid!
If he's out there negotiating, getting a feel for the area, it makes sense for their club to allow him to train with the players they expect to become his new team-mates so he can hit the ground running when their season starts. Players will often train at clubs they have links with whilst looking for another club, even if they have nothing lined up!

More likely it’s done pending international clearance. Once that’s done they will announce it formally

As this seems to be a done deal, would anyone take Tommy Smith back on a year or 2 contract, as a cover for Spencer coming through?

They’d be in preseason for those that didn’t play International football. In under a month they play Champions League qualifiers, so hopefully he doesn’t pick up an injury while they are waiting for the deal to go through(or have some sort of agreement in place that an injury doesn’t scupper the deal).

Yes As this seems to be a done deal, would anyone take Tommy Smith back on a year or 2 contract, as a cover for Spencer coming through? Nope And just to be awkward.... Maybe. Despite losing Pipa, it's probably not that high a priority position. As a defensive RB we have options in Turton, REG & Pearson. Attacking full back - Turton & possibly Rowe. As wing back we have Turton, Rowe & Sorba, with Spencer also potentially capable of performing each of those roles occasionally (assuming he doesn't go out on loan). On the other hand, each of those mentioned above (bar Spencer who is unlikely to feature for us much - if at all - next season) can fill other roles on the pitch & it's entirely possible that we could have quite a few of those players on the pitch at the same time, and only one of them can be RB. If it's decided that we need a RB/RWB, I'd be plenty happy with Smith. But I'm really not convinced we need one, and I'd rather our resources were directed elsewhere on the pitch.

Absolutely NO WAY. He was never my favourite player. I can recall having an argument about him when we stuffed Palace on the first day in the Premier League. A fellow Town fan disagreed with my criticism. It turned out Smith was sponsored by him. I was never going to win that argument....

He was OK but nothing more than ok, although he had a decent season in the promotion campaign but even in that he was just ok, numerous times he made errors that led to goals throughout his Town career and its no real surprise his spell at Stoke has ended this way, but at least we got 4 million notes gor him.

He was in the Championship team of the season that year. You either have unreasonably high standards or a short memory. Not the same player now though so I wouldn’t be desperate to have him back.

Yeah that's the thing though, he's never repeated those so called high standards. Also Scott Malone was in that very same team of the season, which says it all really.

Good move for the lad. Good luck to him 👍 Good move for both imo, had one year left on his contact and may have left on a free at the end of the season.
