I once went out with a lass from Golcar, she was filthy. Don’t miss her though. Couple of spanners short of a full set.
That is all.

I had a nice Indian meal in Golcar this week while up visiting family. Manchester road was a nightmare the lights at the bottom of Blckmoorfoot Road appears to be faulty letting only three cars at a time though at a time towards Huddersfield, we were queuing back up the road almost to Milnsbridge. Snap, had a really nice Indian in Almondbury on Wednesday, heading up to the game with son/grandson tonight & possibly favouring Penistone because of a player we know (lads Bro/law).......I'll try not boast how many I scored at Longfield, for Almondbury Utd of course.

Me mum still lives in Golcar. Always makes me a little sad seeing Beech School closed when I go to see her has it closed now? makes me sad that they put a massive fence up to stop kids going on playing fields in between manor road and church school. used to play football on there every night as a kid Yeah it shut a while ago, pupils got moved to Crow Lane as far as I know

Goals at top end of Church School saying field always the best as there was a fence behind so didn't have to do much fetching

Golcar Church School v Knowl Bank - now there was a rivalry! I was at Manor Road, we beat St John's Church School (Churchy Boggs we named them) 21-0 at football. Mrs Oakley our managed told us off for scoring too many. We were the team that won at Old Trafford in the final of a tournament. Smithies and James Berrett in the team, Berrett wasn't at Town by that point.

A couple of things that I’ve deduced here then Wingman... 1) She wasnae a Washer ! 2) You got your Nuts ! 3) She got a Screw ! 4) And you made a Bolt ! The Mechanics of it all was a well Engineered plan !!! 😊

Then at high school my best mate who went to church school never knew we called them that The ‘Churchy Bogs’ / ‘Banky Bogs’ thing dates back to before Manor Road was built in the early ‘70s. Knowle Bank had the Infants on Handel Street and Juniors on Knowle Road, opposite the Provident church. St John’s was opposite the Rose & Crown. I was in the last intake that utilised Knowle Bank, as Manor Road wasn’t big enough to cope with a couple of ‘boom’ years. We had to walk up to Manor Road for our dinners each day. St John’s, as it is now, was built on the playing fields of Manor Road around ‘82-ish. Beech Avenue was built around ‘78/‘79, taking up a couple of football pitches that we used to play on as kids.

I went to St Johns across from the old police station 65 to 70.. It was always Banky bogs and Churchy bogs even back then . Outside toilets were horrendous during the winter months.. Happy days

There were some smart lasses from Golcar when I was at CVHS and close to linfit too, when started boozing the the pipe back across the river at bottom of royal oak field was a bit dodgy to negotiate!!, never fell in river though, happy days!!

Whilst our year wasn't as talented the St John's mauling continued. Mrs Oakley was great, she's a regular down at the Johns Smiths.

So we had 3 in that team but me and Smithies in year 5. Was a good team, it's a shame you're too young at the time to realise you're on the Old Trafford grass.
